"You haven't eaten much all day, you must be starving. I've prepared dinner for you, do you want me to feed you...?" Lena asked softly.

Wei En quickly sat up straight and waved his hand, saying:

"No need, no need, Sister Lena, thank you for your trouble. Just bring it over."

"Okay, here you go." Lena smiled slightly, stood up, and her emerald green dress outlined her full and smooth figure.

She turned and walked to the wooden table by the door, where insulated lunch boxes and a set of silver cutlery were placed.

Before long, she sat down by Wayne's bedside with a tray of food.

The plate contains a rich, stewed vegetable and beef broth, golden and crispy potato pancakes, a side of sweet and sour pickled cucumbers, and warm buttered bread, all steaming gently.

She gently placed the plate on the bedside table, rested her elbow on the edge of the bed, her brown hair falling over her shoulders, and said with concern:

"I was worried that you were too weak, so I thought feeding you would save you some effort. But since you want to do it yourself, eat slowly and don't rush. If you need anything, just let me know."

"Okay, thank you, sister." Wayne turned to the side, preparing to drink some vegetable and beef soup first.

He felt a little uncomfortable being watched by Lena.

Lena smiled and praised softly, "Our new little messenger has played such a significant role in such a crucial case right after arriving. That's impressive."

"It was just luck, just luck."

Wayne took a few sips of the soup with a spoon. The flavors of the beef and vegetables had been infused into the soup, making it savory, mild, and without any fishy or gamey taste. It was very delicious and had been made with great care.

"How is it? How does it taste?" Lena asked expectantly.

"Sister Lena, your cooking is really good."

"Hmm, I make this soup often. If you like it, I'll make it for you again. The potato pancakes are also quite good. Try them." Lena spoke slowly and deliberately, exuding the aura of a mature woman.

The progress in home-cooked meals is also quite noticeable.

Wayne took a potato pancake, crunching it one after another, and asked:

"Sister Lena, have you been waiting for me to wake up all day?"

"Yes, I've been waiting for you all day except for work. We made a promise yesterday morning that I would make you breakfast, but you slept all day, so I had to wait for you to wake up before I could make you a meal."

Lena picked up a napkin and gently wiped the soup that had splashed on the table. She looked at Wayne with a smile in her eyes and felt more and more attracted to the handsome young man in front of her.

"Thank you, Lena, you've worked so hard." Wayne looked at the twisted threads that flashed by, confirming that his [Charm] was indeed in effect at any time.

However, there was also an indescribable sense of peace, tranquility, and even closeness in his interactions with Lena.

For a moment, Wei En couldn't tell who was being close to whom, or if it was a mutual closeness.

Lena lowered her gaze to watch Wayne eat, her fingertips lightly twirling the hem of her skirt, her eyebrows curving upwards, yet a hint of sadness flickered in her pupils:

"It's not hard work; it's what we logistics staff should do. My father was also an investigator, and he sacrificed his life in an operation to save thousands of lives. I've always been very proud of him, and of course, I admire all of you investigators."

Wayne was taken aback, not expecting Lena to have such a story, which was truly heartbreaking. He sighed softly and nodded, saying:

"Alas, it's such a pity. I admire people like your father, and I admire all those who face the unknown."

Lena didn't continue the heavy topic, but instead covered her mouth and smiled:

"Oh, my little messenger, you've only been here a short time. Your first priority is to protect yourself. Don't always fight back. Staying alive is the most important thing, understand?"

Protect yourself?

Being cared for and looked after by such an older sister is so heartwarming, so incredibly heartwarming.

Wei En's ears felt slightly warm. She put down the spoon and her tone suddenly became serious: "I understand, Sister Lena!"

Lena chuckled, raised her hand and lightly tapped Wayne's forehead, her brown hair swaying gently over her shoulder.

"Just listen to me. Eat more to replenish your energy."

Wayne lowered his head and took a bite of the crispy biscuit. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Lena watching him quietly, her eyes filled with pity.

The twisted threads flashed by in front of me.

And so, with Lena's intermittent concern, Wayne finished preparing dinner.

Since these were all home-cooked meals, some of which I had never tried before, my eating progressed quite quickly.

Lena was satisfied to see that her carefully prepared dinner had been completely devoured, and she went to clear the table.

"Just stay in your room and get some rest. If you're still worried about the case, you can ask your team leader, Matthew. He's in the office upstairs. You can get some answers and have a good night's sleep."

"Okay, sure," Wayne replied.

Lena smoothed out the wrinkles in her long dress, picked up her cutlery, and walked towards the door, turning back with a slight smile as she did so.

"Take good rest, your health is the most important thing. I won't bother you anymore, I'll make you breakfast tomorrow morning."

"Okay, Lena."

As Lena gently closed the door and left, Wayne comfortably lay back down on the bed.

Honestly, after living in the Special Bureau for two or three days, I've come to appreciate how great it is here.

Good colleagues, good food, good benefits, good atmosphere—everything is great. Except for some tasks that might be life-threatening.

If I didn't have any other ambitions and just wanted a stable job, routine, and life, I would probably choose this kind of environment first.

Unfortunately, nothing is perfect.

A devastating crisis is brewing in the shadows of this city. From Bob's death to Benjamin's grave and those stone sculptures, many things are subtly connected. Is there an organized and premeditated conspiracy behind it all?

I've rested enough. It's a little past 7 p.m., still early. I'll go find Team Leader Matthew and ask him about the case.

I quickly washed my face to clear my head.

Wayne checked the revolver and mithril bullets; they were unused, and the crowbar and chisel were also there.

"Phew... thank goodness, since it's a dream, it certainly won't damage my real-world equipment."

He then left room 3013 and went to the office of the Second Group of the Seventh Investigation Section of the Special Bureau on the 32nd floor of the Ritz Hotel.

The investigation department has two offices, one for Group 1 and one for Group 2.

The lights were on in the second group's office.

Wayne knocked on the door and went in.

Matthew sat at his large desk, head down, writing a report, a thick stack of documents beside him. Ethan and Lillian were not there.

Seeing Wayne enter, Matthew glanced up at him, then continued writing his report. "Please have a seat. How was your rest?"

Wayne found his seat and sat down, glancing around the office's interior layout. He compared it superficially to the house in his nightmare and found that although the two looked very similar, the house in his dream lacked any sense of life.

"Team leader, I've almost recovered and I'm fine," Wei En replied.

"That's good." Matthew stopped writing and picked up a document to look it up.

"Team leader, is the case of Bob's death closed?" Wayne asked.

"It's over. The operations team has gone deep into the caves beneath the tomb and has almost figured it out." Matthew said calmly.

"What was the final outcome of the case?" Wayne asked.

"Based on what we saw during the operation to eliminate the alien species, and combining the clues we collected in our second team, we have deduced the general course of the case and can submit it as the final report," Matthew said, tossing Wayne a handwritten report.

"Let's see," Matthew said.

Wayne took the report, flipped through two pages, and skimmed through it briefly.

The report mainly summarizes some key clues and related speculations.

Scene description:

[There is a large hall in the cave beneath the tomb, with interconnected passageways, covering almost half of the cemetery.]

[In the center of the room was a giant human face symbol made up of rat heads. Benjamin's mutilated body was found at the scene. The enemy encountered an A-level mutant. A-level mutants have a low degree of aggression. The Operations Department successfully eliminated the mutant and brought back the complete remains of the A-level mutant.]
