After having a satisfying meal at the Wang family home, Wang Jinzhu and her family of four embarked on their journey home.

When they returned, the two little ones, Chen Tianrun and Chen Tianwei, had full bellies and healthy rosy cheeks, a far cry from their sallow complexion and timidity on the way there. Each of them held a meat pie that Wang Guilan had baked, wrapped in oil paper, tucked into their bosom as if it were a precious treasure.

"Sister-in-law, your meat is really delicious." Chen Tianrun said softly, with a hint of lingering relish, as he followed Wang Jinzhu.

"Yes, Uncle and Aunt, and the Wang family brothers, they are all doing well." Chen Tianwei nodded in agreement, her little hand tightly holding Wang Jinzhu's clothes, as if afraid that if she let go, everything that had just happened would become a dream.

Wang Jinzhu's heart melted completely. She patted the two children's heads and said with a smile, "If you like it, your sister-in-law will take you again next time. When your sister-in-law makes it herself, you can have some too."

"Really?" The two children's eyes lit up at the same time.

"Of course it's true. When has my sister-in-law ever lied to you?"

She didn't want the twenty taels of silver that her mother, Wang Guilan, secretly gave her, but in the end, she couldn't resist her mother's insistence and kept five taels.

She also brought back a large piece of pork belly and several pounds of offal from her parents' home, all personally selected by Butcher Wang. Wang Guilan also packed her a large bag of steamed buns and several meat patties.

Mantou Wang Jinzhu received the space. Her life in the apocalypse had made her develop the habit of hoarding supplies. The items in the space could always remain in the same state as when they were stored in.

She took everything else back with her; after all, she'd brought so much stuff, it wouldn't be good to come back empty-handed. She also wanted to show the Chen family that she, Wang Jinzhu, wasn't someone to be trifled with, and that her family wasn't to be trifled with either!

After walking for about half an hour, the outline of Chenjia Village finally came into view. In the distance, you could see the old locust tree in front of your own yard.

The two little ones slowed down noticeably, and the excitement on their faces faded considerably, replaced by a hint of tension and fear.

They turned back into those two children who were cautious and dared not speak loudly in the Chen family.

Wang Jinzhu sighed inwardly. What a huge psychological trauma this must have caused.

She stopped, squatted down, and looked at them, deliberately speaking in a relaxed tone, "What's wrong? What are you afraid of? Your sister-in-law is here. If anyone dares to glare at you, your sister-in-law will gouge their eyes out and stomp on them!"

Chen Tianfang also stepped forward, imitating Wang Jinzhu, and patted his younger siblings on the head with one hand each. Although his voice was still muffled, it revealed an unprecedented firmness: "Don't be afraid, your big brother is here."

The two little ones looked at their older brother and chose to stick close to their sister-in-law.

The family of four composed themselves and strode towards the Chen family's courtyard.

Before even entering the door, I could feel an unusually low pressure.

The courtyard was quiet, not a soul in sight. But Wang Jinzhu could sense that countless eyes were watching them from the main room and the kitchen.

She sneered; as expected, this was where they were waiting for her.

She cleared her throat and deliberately called out in a voice that could be heard throughout the courtyard, "Tianfang, is the stuff heavy? Hurry up and bring it all inside! This meat is very fresh; don't leave it outside for too long!"

Chen Tianfang now does whatever his wife says without a word. He takes his things, walks around the main room, and heads straight for the east wing where their eldest son lives.

"stop!"

A sharp scream came from the main room, and Old Mrs. Chen rushed out like a gust of wind, followed by Old Mr. Chen with a livid face, Chen Xiufen and Liu Yiyi with red and swollen eyes from crying, and Chen Shuyan standing at the back with a dark face.

It seems that the second wife's family suffered a setback during their homecoming and had nowhere to vent their anger, so they ran back to the old house to seek help.

Old Mrs. Chen stared intently at the large piece of still-oily pork belly and the several meat patties wrapped around it that Chen Tianfang was carrying in his hand.

"Well, Wang Jinzhu! You robber! You stole our things, and now you're brazenly hiding what you brought back! Don't you have any respect for your elders?!" Old Mrs. Chen immediately launched into a tirade of abuse.

Wang Jinzhu put down what she was holding, shielded her two children behind her, and then slowly raised her head with an innocent smile on her face: "Grandma, I don't understand what you're saying. What do you mean by 'stealing'? Didn't you say yourself that this homecoming gift was for the bride? I'm also a bride, I'm taking what I'm entitled to, how does that count as stealing?"

"You! You call that a bride? You're not worthy to be compared to Yiyi!" Chen Xiufen shrieked, pointing at the meat in Wang Jinzhu's hand. "And that piece of meat! Where did you get it? Did you steal money from home again?!"

"Second Aunt, you can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want." Wang Jinzhu's face turned cold. "This meat is a homecoming gift from my parents! My parents were worried that I wouldn't eat well after marrying into the Chen family, so they specially brought it for me! What, is it an eyesore for me to bring something back from my parents' home?"

As she spoke, she deliberately picked up the marbled pork belly and waved it in front of them.

"Your family? Do you think your family would be so kind?" Old Mrs. Chen scoffed, her face full of disbelief. In her view, a married daughter is like water spilled from a cup; her family should be grateful if they don't take a cut, let alone give her money.

"Whether my family is kind or not is none of your concern, Grandma." Wang Jinzhu was too lazy to waste words with her. She turned to Chen Tianfang, "Since Grandma doesn't believe me, Tianfang, what are you standing there for? Take the things back to your room! Tianrun, Tianwei, you two go back to your room too and eat the meat pies your sister-in-law gave you."

"Don't go!" Old Mrs. Chen spread her arms wide, blocking the road like a mother hen. "The gifts from the wedding ceremony were given out of public funds, so naturally they should go back to the public funds!"

As she spoke, she actually reached out to snatch the meat from Wang Jinzhu's hand.

Wang Jinzhu had no intention of keeping it for herself, so she casually threw the meat into Old Mrs. Chen's arms.

"Ouch!" Old Mrs. Chen fell to the ground, still clutching the meat tightly in her arms, not minding its greasiness at all.

"Grandma, are you alright? I didn't say I wouldn't give you any, why are you like this? If others knew you tripped and fell flat on your face trying to take meat from your granddaughter-in-law, how embarrassing would that be!"

In a good mood today, Wang Jinzhu was too lazy to argue with them. "Grandma, you can take that piece of meat! I'll take care of the offal; I'm afraid you people will waste it!"

Old Mrs. Chen, who couldn't believe that Wang Jinzhu had just given her the meat, quickly got up. She wanted to marinate the meat right away so that she could add a couple of leaves when stir-frying cabbage and have enough to last her a long time!

"That stinky stuff, only you pig butchers would care about it. Do whatever you want with it."

"It's ready, but don't eat the milk!" Wang Jinzhu shouted to Old Lady Chen.

Old Mrs. Chen didn't answer her. Why shouldn't she eat it? Pig offal is meat too.

Wang Jinzhu ignored Old Lady Chen, picked up the bag of pig offal, and turned to walk towards the kitchen. Chen Tianwei and Chen Tianrun exchanged a glance and immediately followed closely behind her like two little tails. They dared not stay in the yard, afraid of being scolded by their grandparents and second aunt.
