It takes about half an hour to walk from Chenjia Village to Wangjiatun, Wang Jinzhu's maternal home.

Along the way, Chen Tianrun and Chen Tianwei were like two little birds just released from their cage, chattering incessantly. One moment they were chasing butterflies, and the next they were curiously asking the wildflowers by the roadside what their names were.

Wang Jinzhu patiently answered their questions one by one. Seeing the genuine joy on their faces, she felt that taking that homecoming gift today was truly the best thing she had ever done.

But in reality, the two children weren't as relaxed as they appeared. They were both looking forward to going to their sister-in-law's house and afraid of being disliked.

Chen Tianfang, carrying the homecoming gifts, walked silently at the back. Looking at the three figures ahead—one large and two small—and listening to their cheerful laughter, he couldn't help but reflect on himself, realizing he had been such a good-for-nothing before, wasting his life.

Luckily, Jinzhu has taken a liking to him. Wait, why hasn't Jinzhu mentioned sharing a room with him yet? It seems he'll have to do it. No matter how capable Jinzhu is, she's still a girl.

As Chen Tianfang was lost in thought, a rich aroma of meat wafted over on the breeze.

Chen Tianrun and Chen Tianwei sniffed in unison, their eyes shining brightly.

"It smells so good..." Chen Tian whispered.

"It's meat!" Chen Tianrun said confidently, his mouth practically watering.

Wang Jinzhu smiled and patted his head: "Trying to eat? I'll let you eat your fill later!"

The Wang family's courtyard was completely different from the Chen family's.

The courtyard was larger and more lively. Piles of chopped firewood were stacked in the corner, and cleaned pig offal hung on the wall. The air was filled with a unique aroma of meat mixed with a faint smell of blood, characteristic of a butcher's household.

"Father! Mother! I'm back!" Wang Jinzhu's voice rang out even before she entered the courtyard.

"Hey! My sweet little girl is back!" A loud female voice immediately responded.

A middle-aged woman, who bore a striking resemblance to Wang Jinzhu and was also somewhat plump, quickly came out of the house to greet them. She was Wang Jinzhu's mother, Wang Guilan.

Wang Guilan grabbed her daughter, looking her up and down, muttering, "You've lost weight. Didn't you eat well at the Chen family's?"

Wang Jinzhu was both amused and exasperated; her figure showed no signs of weight loss.

"Mom, I'm fine."

Wang Guilan then noticed the three people behind her daughter. She first glanced with satisfaction at her tall and sturdy son-in-law, Chen Tianfang, and then saw the generous homecoming gift on his shoulder, her smile widening even more.

But when her gaze fell on Chen Tianrun and Chen Tianwei, her smile froze instantly.

"Oh my goodness! Who...whose child is this?" Wang Guilan's voice suddenly rose, filled with shock and heartache. "My God, how could he be so thin! His face is sallow, and he has no flesh on his body at all! Did the Chen family suffer a disaster? How could they raise a child like this!"

Her loud voice attracted Butcher Wang and his three sons, who were sharpening knives in the backyard.

Wang Dali, the butcher, lived up to his name. He was a burly man with a thick beard, looking somewhat fierce. But now, looking at the two thin children, his eyes were full of surprise. There hadn't been any droughts or floods in the past two years, and most families wouldn't have gone hungry, so their children wouldn't be this thin.

Wang Jinzhu's three older brothers, Wang Jinbao, Wang Yinbao, and Wang Xiaobao, were all tall and strong, standing there like three iron towers, which frightened Chen Tianrun and Chen Tianwei so much that they hid behind Wang Jinzhu.

Wang Jinzhu patted the two children on the back to comfort them, and then briefly explained the situation of the Chen family and how the gifts for today's visit were "obtained".

She made it sound so easy, but what kind of temper did the Wang family have? They exploded the moment they heard it!

"Damn it!" Butcher Wang slammed his butcher knife into a nearby wooden stake with a loud clang, sending splinters flying. "How dare the Chen family bully my daughter like this! Do they really think the Wang family has no one left?!"

"Little sister! You've been wronged!" The eldest brother, Wang Jinbao, was furious, his face red and neck bulging. "Let's go! We brothers are going to the Chen family right now and tear their house down!"

"Yes! Drag that damned scholar out and beat him up! Let him know why the flowers are so red!" Second Brother Wang Yinbao also waved his fist.

The youngest, Wang Xiaobao, even picked up a carrying pole from the corner of the yard.

Seeing this scene, Chen Tianfang's forehead was covered in sweat. He quickly stepped forward and bowed deeply to Butcher Wang: "Father-in-law, it is my incompetence that has caused Jinzhu to suffer."

Butcher Wang glanced at him and saw that although he was nervous, he stood up straight and did not back down at all, which calmed down Wang's anger.

"Enough!" Wang Guilan glared at her husband and sons. "Today is my daughter's homecoming day, what kind of behavior is this, fighting and beating each other like this! If you're angry, just keep it to yourself!"

She was a woman after all, and her heart was more sensitive. She pulled Chen Tianrun and Chen Tianwei closer, her expression changing from heartache to affection.

"Good children, don't be afraid. Now that you're at your aunt's house, feel at home. Come on, let your aunt get you some delicious food!"

Without saying a word, she pulled one of them into the house, one in each hand.

Butcher Wang snorted and said to Chen Tianfang, "Kid, at least you have some backbone. Now that you've entered the Wang family, you'd better stand tall! Don't let your wife, a woman, be the one charging ahead! My daughter, Wang Dali's daughter, isn't married off to be mistreated!"

After saying that, he turned and went into the kitchen. A short while later, he came out carrying a large piece of fresh pork belly that was still dripping with blood.

"My daughter is coming home for her parents' wedding today, let's eat!"

The Wang family became lively and bustling with activity because of Wang Jinzhu's return.

In the kitchen, Wang Guilan deftly chopped meat, preparing to make a large pot of braised pork. Wang Jinzhu's three older brothers also put away their fierce expressions; one tended the fire, one washed vegetables, and the other awkwardly tried to amuse the two children.

Chen Tianrun and Chen Tianwei sat on small stools, staring wide-eyed as the large piece of fatty and lean pork belly was cut into neat square pieces.

They've never seen so much flesh before in all their lives.

Looking at their greedy little faces, Wang Guilan felt both sorry for them and amused. She took a bag of pastries from the cupboard and handed it to them, saying, "Have something to tide you over. The meat will be ready soon!"

The two children held the sweet snacks and ate them in small bites, feeling as happy as if they were dreaming.

Chen Tianfang watched all this, his heart filled with mixed emotions.

This is Jinzhu's home, a place full of warmth, human touch, and strength.

He suddenly realized that he had been living a very stifled life before.

He looked at Wang Jinzhu, who was busy working with her mother. Her face was radiant with a carefree and unrestrained spirit that she had never shown in the Chen family before.

Before long, lunch was served, so plentiful that Chen Tianrun and Chen Tianwei felt like they were in heaven.

A large pot of braised pork belly, the pieces of meat cooked until translucent, rich but not greasy, and melts in your mouth.

A large plate of stir-fried pork liver, cooked to perfection, was tender and smooth.

There was also a large pot of snow-white, rich soup made with pork bones, along with green vegetables, radishes, and tofu—it was incredibly delicious.

The staple food is white rice, and there's plenty to go around.

Wang Guilan kept serving food to the two children, piling their bowls up like a small mountain.

"Eat, eat more! Look how skinny you are, you could be blown away by the wind!"

Chen Tianrun and Chen Tianwei were a little reserved at first, but seeing everyone in the Wang family eating meat with gusto as if it were commonplace, they gradually relaxed.
