A fierce wife enters the house: She helps up a house full of spineless people.

Chapter 115 Three-pronged harassment of the enemy camp

The rebel camp erupted in chaos, with sharp gong sounds and shouts echoing through the night.

"Quick! Retreat!" Zhang Kui's voice rang out behind him, tinged with excitement and anxiety.

"Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!"

Several rockets were launched from their left and right sides, that is, from other ambush points on the cliff, flying towards other directions of the rebel camp, some even landing directly on open ground.

These arrows were not aimed accurately, nor were they intended to set fires; their purpose was simply to create chaos and draw the rebels' attention away.

Wang Tianfang used both his hands and feet to grab the protruding tree roots and vines, desperately climbing upwards.

The rebels below had already reacted, and a squad of archers charged in their direction.

"Over there! There are people on the cliff face!"

"Fire arrows! Shoot them all dead!"

"Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh—"

The sound of arrows piercing the air was right next to his ears, like a death knell. Wang Tianfang kept his head down, not daring to look back, and just kept looking upwards.

He could hear the sound of arrows hitting the stones around him, sending sparks flying, and the "thud" of arrows piercing flesh.

"what!"

A scream rang out from below and to the right of Wang Tianfang.

He instinctively turned his head and saw a brother who had come down with them with an arrow stuck in his back. His hand slipped, and he fell straight down the steep slope, crashing heavily onto the rocks below, where he lay motionless.

Wang Tianfang's heart clenched suddenly.

He knew that man; he was a fairly honest guy with a wife and children at home.

But now, he doesn't even have a second to think.

"Don't fucking look down! Climb up!" Zhang Kui's roar came from above.

All the surviving soldiers were frantically climbing upwards. In the darkness, no one could see anyone else; all that could be heard were heavy breathing and the sound of arrows flying past.

Another muffled groan.

Wang Tianfang felt something warm liquid being poured onto his head. He reached up and touched it; it was sticky—blood.

A soldier above him had his neck pierced by a stray arrow; before he could even scream, his body went limp and hung from the vines.

Wang Tianfang didn't even glance at him, walked past him, and continued upwards.

Finally, a rough, powerful hand reached down from above and grabbed his wrist.

"Come on up!"

Wang Tianfang was pulled forcefully onto the ground. His legs went weak, and he collapsed to the ground, his chest feeling like it was about to explode as he gasped for breath.

"Quick! Take a headcount! Those who can still move, cover the others' retreat!"

The centurion in charge of the backup was giving loud orders.

Wang Tian took a couple of breaths and looked up to see Zhang Kui had also come up. He was leaning against a tree, his chest heaving violently, and his face was not clearly visible in the dim light.

"How many men are left?" the centurion asked anxiously.

A soldier who had just arrived was panting and said, "They're gone. Li Si and Zhao Da both fell down."

"Forget about it! The rebels are catching up! Retreat!"

Shouts of battle echoed from the foot of the mountain, and flickering torches could be seen moving up the hillside.

"Go!" Zhang Kui, having recovered his strength, kicked a soldier still sprawled on the ground in the backside. "Want to die here?! Get running!"

Everyone immediately struggled to their feet and followed the reinforcements, disappearing into the deeper forest without looking back.

They dared not retrace their steps, and could only stumble desperately through the darkness.

They ran for an unknown amount of time until the shouts of battle and the sound of gongs behind them could no longer be heard, at which point the pace of the procession gradually slowed down.

Everyone had reached their limit, and they collapsed to the ground like rag dolls.

Wang Tianfang leaned against a tree, his legs shaking so violently they were completely out of control.

Zhang Kui walked to the middle of the line and, using the dim light of day, scanned the group.

There were twenty people, including him, when they went down. Now, standing here, he counted, there are only thirteen.

In the blink of an eye, seven brothers were gone.

"Damn it!" Zhang Kui slammed his fist into the tree next to him, making a dull thud.

After a long while, a scout returned and whispered to Zhang Kui, "Captain, the rebels haven't caught up. Our brothers halfway up the mountain said their camp is in complete chaos, with flames reaching the sky and people everywhere fighting the fire. They can't care about us at all."

"It's on fire?" Zhang Kui suddenly stood up, his eyes gleaming.

"It's burning! It's burning fiercely! Our arrow hit the target perfectly!" The soldier's voice was filled with barely suppressed excitement.

"Good! Good! Good!" Zhang Kui said "good" three times in a row, then slapped him on the shoulder. "Damn it, at least those brothers didn't die in vain!"

"Get up, all of you!" Zhang Kui's voice rang out again. "Stop lying around like corpses! We need to find somewhere else! It's not safe here!"

Exhausted, the team walked for nearly an hour through the dark forest before finally reaching a new rest stop.

This is a more secluded valley, surrounded by mountains on three sides, with only one narrow passage leading in.

After arranging the sentries, Zhang Kui finally ordered everyone to rest on the spot.

This time, it's a real rest.

The soldiers could no longer hold on and lay sprawled on the ground, not wanting to move a single finger.

"Get up, all of you! Stop sleeping!" Zhang Kui's deep voice echoed through the valley, kicking each soldier lying on the ground awake.

While the soldiers were waking up, Zhang Kui had already given instructions for today's mission to several centurions. "Today we'll split into three groups. We won't engage in any hard battles, just snipe from the shadows, bang drums and gongs, and curse them! Make them lose sleep and their appetite. When the enemy advances, we retreat; when the enemy camps, we harass them. Understand?"

Once the mission was assigned, the team quickly split into three groups, each heading in a different direction. Wang Tianfang followed Zhang Kui, and their group was responsible for harassing the enemy from the east.

They quickly reached the outer perimeter of the rebel camp. The fire had long been extinguished, and the black ash on the ground testified to the fire that had raged the previous night.

"Fire the arrows!" Zhang Kui suddenly gave the order.

Dozens of arrows, whistling through the air, hurtled towards the rebel camp. Some of these arrows struck tents, while others hit rebel soldiers.

The rebel camp erupted into chaos once again. Some soldiers grabbed weapons and charged towards the camp, while others fled in panic.

"Withdraw!" Zhang Kui ordered without hesitation.

Wang Tianfang followed the group, quickly turned around, and retreated into the depths of the forest. They ran very fast, and the rebels had no time to pursue them.

And so they went, firing one shot and moving on to another, constantly harassing the rebels. Each time, they would catch the rebels off guard, unleash a volley of arrows, and then immediately retreat. The rebels were driven to distraction, yet they couldn't catch them.

Throughout the morning, Zhang Kui led his several hundred men in three directions, causing chaos and disorder in the rebel camp. The rebels couldn't even eat their breakfast in peace; the entire camp was filled with cursing and swearing.
