Chapter 11 Order Enforcement Bureau

The reception hall of the Order Enforcement Bureau was brightly lit, making the interior spacious and bright.

When Bai Ci stepped into the lobby, Sister Li was sitting on a bench in the waiting area, holding a glass of water. When she saw Bai Ci push the door open and enter, her eyes lit up, and she stood up to greet him.

"You're here? I've brought Niu Niu home. Thank you for your hard work."

"Yeah, it's okay. Her sister is waiting downstairs. Niu Niu even chatted with me on the way here. She seems to be in good spirits."

Bai Ci sat down next to Sister Li, took the phone out of his pocket, and handed it over. "Sister Li, here's your phone back."

Sister Li took the phone, casually stuffed it into her apron pocket, and sat down again: "Executive Lin just said that I just need to make a statement and sign it later."

Bai Ci nodded, and was about to ask a few questions when a door at the end of the corridor opened. Lin Yue walked out with a stack of documents, saw Bai Ci, and waved to him.

"Bai Ci, over here."

After the statement was recorded, Bai Ci filled out the last few forms on the long table, and a passing staff member couldn't help but take a second look.

A young female executive walked over and then came back, pretending to organize the documents on the table, while glancing at him out of the corner of her eye.

"Ding," Xiao Qi popped into my mind, "Bai Bai, you're getting 100% attention now. I suggest you get used to it; it'll only get more in the future."

"Stop talking." Bai Ci muttered to herself, lowering her head to continue filling out the form, pretending not to notice the stares.

After Bai Ci finished filling out the form, Lin Yue handed the folder to the staff member next to him, then looked at Bai Ci and said, "The record is finished, but I need to say a few words to you."

Bai Ci raised his head.

"The evidence against Huang Mao and his two accomplices for extortion is conclusive; they'll at least be locked up for a while," Lin Yue said in a low voice. "But the person you've offended today isn't Huang Mao, but the person behind him. Master Qi, whose real name is Zheng Qi, is a very powerful figure in the old city. We've been watching him for a while now, but we haven't had a chance to take him down."

He paused, looking into Bai Ci's eyes: "You had Huang Mao say on the phone today, 'Bring a few more people,' and that recording is very valuable to us. But Zheng Qi hates it when his subordinates get into trouble. If Huang Mao goes to jail, he won't think it's because Huang Mao was stupid; he'll only think it's because you, this 'school uniform kid,' ruined his plans."

Bai Ci's fingers curled slightly.

"I saw your student ID, St. Andrew's." Lin Yue's tone was calm. "That's a place Zheng Qi can't reach. He wouldn't be stupid enough to barge into that school to find you. But try not to come to the Old Town or Willow Lane area alone in the future, especially at night."

"I understand," Bai Ci replied softly.

Lin Yue glanced at him, seemingly wanting to say something, but ultimately just nodded. He turned to leave, then suddenly stopped, turning his head to say, "Oh, by the way, wait a moment."

He called out towards the other end of the corridor, "Captain Zhou!"

In an office deep in the corridor, someone pushed open the door and came out in response.

He was a man in his early thirties, wearing a well-tailored dark-colored duty uniform, with three more silver stripes on his epaulets than Lin Yue. He was tall and slender, with well-defined features, high and sharp brow bones, and dark brown eyes that exuded a calm and authoritative aura.

As he walked over, his pace was neither hurried nor slow, and his leather shoes made a steady sound on the terrazzo floor.

"Lin Yue, what's wrong?"

The voice wasn't loud, but it had a natural sense of pressure.

Lin Yue stepped aside: "This is the person involved in today's extortion case in Willow Lane in the Old Town, a student of St. Andrew. The statement has been completed, and I thought you could confirm it again."

"Willow Lane?" Zhou Yan's gaze turned to Bai Ci.

The first thing he saw was a dark blue St. Andrew's school uniform, the school badge on the left chest gleaming coldly under the light, and then his gaze moved upwards, landing on that face.

He had seen many students at St. Andrew's Academy, most of whom were arrogant and unrestrained, but a young man like Bai Ci, with his stunning looks, gentle and calm temperament, and courage in the face of adversity, was truly rare.

He glanced at Bai Ci, who looked rather petite and frail.

Lin Yue added from the side, "He faced three people alone and even recorded the conversation beforehand, so the evidence is very well preserved."

Zhou Yan's surprise deepened, but he quickly concealed it, and his face regained its calm and composed expression.

He pulled out a chair and sat down, his posture relaxed yet measured, and looked up at Bai Ci: "The statement is finished, I'll review it again."

Zhou Yan flipped through a few pages of records, then suddenly asked, "Your surname is Bai?"

"Um."

Zhou Yan nodded and didn't press further, but there was something indescribable in his eyes when he looked at Bai Ci.

He stood up and extended his hand to Bai Ci: "Zhou Yan. If you encounter any trouble in the old town in the future, you can come to me directly."

"Thank you, Captain Zhou," Bai Ci said, shaking hands in return.

Zhou Yan picked up the documents on the table, turned and walked towards the office. When he reached the door, he suddenly stopped, turned around and said, "It's cold outside, go back early."

The door closed.

Sister Li watched the whole thing from the side, and only after Zhou Yan left did she come over and ask in a low voice, "You know him?"

Bai Ci shook his head.

Sister Li didn't ask any more questions. She took Bai Ci's arm and walked out, saying, "Alright, you're done. Let's go, let's go."

Zhou Yan sat down at his desk, picked up his phone, opened his chat window with Bai Yanzhi, and typed: "Yanzhi, do you know who I saw at the station today?"

Send. Less than five seconds later, the other end replied with a single word: "?".

Zhou Yan's lips curved slightly as he continued typing: "Want to know? Trade me the information on the land you acquired last month."

This time, the other side stopped for two seconds longer.

Then he replied, "Is your team short of money to buy intelligence?"

Zhou Yan smiled as he read the message. Bai Yanzhi was the kind of person who would never suffer a loss, nor would he ever let anyone else gain an advantage.

He typed another line: "Your brother."

The other side responded even faster this time: "?"

Want to get something for free? No way. He turned his head and glanced at his reflection in the window, a lingering smile in his eyes.

Bai Yanzhi probably never dreamed that his cowardly younger brother, who was so timid that he didn't even dare to raise his head, would beat up three thugs in the old city all by himself tonight and still give a statement at the enforcement bureau without batting an eye.

What will that question mark become tomorrow? Zhou Yan suddenly felt a sense of anticipation.

Zhou Yan didn't explain further, put his phone face down on the table, and leaned back in his chair.

Bai Ci and Sister Li walked out of the Enforcement Bureau. Sister Li let go of his arm, turned around and faced him, her tone suddenly becoming solemn.

"Bai Ci, I'll remember what happened today." She looked into his eyes and said, slowly and deliberately, "You've helped me so much, I have no way to repay you. From now on, whenever your hair grows long, come to my place for a haircut, it's free. You can come anytime."

Bai Ci opened his mouth to say no, but Sister Li raised her hand to stop him: "Don't be so polite with me. If you don't come, I'll assume you're disgusted by my cooking."

"I don't mind..." Bai Ci said softly.

"Then it's settled." Sister Li smiled and patted his shoulder. "You're such a shy kid, you'll have to work on that. By the way, where do you live? How are you going to get home so late?"

"I live at school," Bai Ci said. "I can just take a taxi back."

"Okay, let me know when you arrive." Sister Li took out her phone, and the two exchanged contact information.

She gave a few more instructions, such as "get some rest" and "drink more hot water," before turning and walking towards the alley.

After taking a few steps, he turned back: "Remember, come see me when you need a haircut!"
