Farming Life Starting in Africa

Chapter 45 The Hospital's Emergency Call

Rosen's marksmanship was actually quite accurate, but he was obsessed with suppressing fire, so he would always be carrying a machine gun and firing.

After emptying half a magazine, all four men collapsed, lying haphazardly beside the pile of scrap metal. Their limbs and flesh were scattered all over the ground, and blood seeped from beneath them, starkly visible on the gray cement floor.

Rosen released the trigger and yelled, "Patrick? Still alive?"

The courtyard was quiet for two seconds.

Then Patrick's voice came from inside the building, trembling with excitement: "Oh! Boss! I knew it was you coming back! I'm alright! I'm alright! There were eight people outside, and I injured one!"

Rosen's heart tightened when he heard "eight people." Two had been hit and killed outside, and four had been beaten to death in the yard, making six in total. Where were the other two?

He immediately became alert, jumped down from the wall, and quickly put the rolled steel back into his capsule. He crouched down at the base of the wall, looked around, and listened intently for any sounds.

"Patrick!" he shouted again. "I've taken care of six here. Do you know where the other two are?"

"I don't know!" Patrick's voice came from inside the building. "But a landmine just exploded near the wall behind the yard! I reckon there were people there!"

"Alright, stay inside and hide. Don't come out until I'm done."

That black guy only makes so little a month, it's too much to ask him to risk his life. Besides, Patrick only has an M870 shotgun, at long range, using it against an AK is just suicide.

Rosen took a deep breath, holding the PKM, and slowly walked around the back of the courtyard, close to the wall.

His footsteps were very light, barely making a sound on the gravel. His ears were constantly perked up, trying to catch any unusual noises.

As long as he doesn't leave the courtyard wall by more than two meters, he won't step on the landmines he planted himself.

He walked along the base of the wall, and after going around for quite a while, he finally found two bodies at the back wall of the yard.

One of them had lost both legs, leaving him completely bald below the knees. The cuts were mangled and bloody, with white bone fragments exposed. He had died from blood loss.

The other one was riddled with shrapnel and riddled with holes; his clothes were soaked in blood, and he was probably dead too.

So these are the remaining two. Rosen stood there for a moment, making sure no one else was around, before letting out a sigh of relief and shouting into the building, "Alright, Patrick, it's all taken care of! You can come out and clean up now!"

In the distance, gunfire continued to erupt from the city of Uller, a constant, relentless barrage of shots. Rosen, uneasy, pulled out his phone and called Qian Bida.

The phone rang several times before being answered. It was a bit noisy on the other end, but I could still hear it clearly.

"How are you doing?" Rosen asked.

"It's all alright now!" Qian Bida's voice was quite loud, still carrying a hint of lingering fear. "A group of people rushed past from the street and fired a few shots, but they didn't get into my shop. I kept the door closed, so everything's fine."

"That's good. Close the door tightly over there and don't come out. I'm going to check on the situation at the military camp to the north." Rosen said as he walked towards the main gate. He wanted to know what was happening as soon as possible, and the military camp was undoubtedly the most likely place to know the situation.

"What are you doing over there!" Qian Bida exclaimed, his voice rising eight octaves in an instant. "Since everything's alright, stay where you are and don't wander off! Don't you know how dangerous it is outside? You're not a soldier, why are you getting involved!"

Just as Rosen was about to speak, his phone suddenly vibrated; another call had come in, interrupting his call. He looked down and saw the screen display: Ma Xiao.

Rosen didn't have time to say anything to Qian Bida, and hung up immediately to answer Ma Xiao's call.

There was a lot of noise on the other end. There were gunshots and shouts, the sounds were chaotic. Ma Xiao's voice was low, full of tension and fear: "Xiao Luo! Help me! My wife and I are in the hospital! A group of terrorists are arresting people! They—" A loud bang came from the other end of the phone, like a door being kicked open, and then Ma Xiao fell silent. The phone was still connected, but there was only static and footsteps.

After Rosen finished speaking, he hung up the phone, ran a few steps to Bigfoot's side, opened the car door, got in, and turned the key—the engine clicked a few times, but it wouldn't start. He turned it again, "click, click, click," still no start.

That collision probably loosened something; it's likely a problem with the fuel system or electrical circuit.

"Damn it!" Rosen slammed his hand on the steering wheel and cursed.

He jumped out of the car and yelled at Patrick, "Get the forklift out of the door and clear all the cars! I need to get out!"

"Okay, boss!" Without a word of nonsense, Patrick ran to the warehouse, climbed onto the forklift, and started it up.

Rosen jumped onto the BJ40, a modified version that had just been refitted but hadn't been painted yet; the body was still made of silver high-strength steel.

He started the engine, the V8 diesel roared to life, and the car sped out of the inner courtyard. As he passed the gate, he rolled down the window and shouted to Patrick, "Get to the second floor! Point that anti-aircraft gun at the gate! Shoot anyone who comes in, except me! You hear me?"

"Okay, boss!" Patrick nodded vigorously and turned to run upstairs.

Rosen stepped on the gas, and the car shot off with a "whoosh," the tires kicking up a cloud of dust on the sandy ground.

Dr. Pan's hospital is south of Uller, next to that cluster of shacks, less than four kilometers away as the crow flies. But now Uller is filled with gunfire and chaos, and the main roads are definitely blocked.

Rosen decided to take a detour south along the outskirts of Uller. The roads on the outskirts were rough and full of potholes, but that wasn't a problem for his car.

He tried to take shortcuts, weaving through wasteland and small roads to avoid congested areas. Even so, it still took him almost ten minutes to reach the vicinity of the hospital.

From a distance, he saw several vehicles driving out of the direction of the hospital: four pickup trucks and two buses lined up, heading south. Machine guns were mounted on the roofs of the pickup trucks.

Rosen's heart skipped a beat; he had a bad feeling.

He slowed down and took out his phone to call Ma Xiao. The call was switched off.

He tossed his phone onto the passenger seat and continued driving towards the hospital entrance.

As Rosen approached the hospital entrance, he got a general idea of what was going on inside. There were several bodies lying on the ground, including doctors and nurses in white coats, as well as a few civilians. Their clothes were covered in blood, and there were bullet casings scattered all over the ground. Most of the dead were Black, and there was no sign of any living people.

Rosen's face darkened.

He was certain in his heart—the train convoy that had just left belonged to that gang of bandits. The Ma couple had most likely already been captured and taken to the train. He didn't have time to think further; he stepped on the gas and gave chase.
