Farming Life Starting in Africa

Chapter 29 Meeting a Visitor at Night

"Yes, I will pay you back the money I owe you as soon as possible."

"Never mind," Rosen waved his hand. "You've taught me so much, consider it tuition." He paused, then remembered something else. "By the way, does that company you mentioned that can conduct combat diving training also have one in Africa?"

Swage thought for a moment, "ADS in Africa should be able to do it, but they're not open to the public for the time being. The one I know of right now is the Wagner Group—besides providing this training for their own elite mercenaries, they also offer some paid programs to the public, but the content of that paid training isn't very comprehensive. Another one is in Angers, France, where the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment's training base is located; you can pay to get in, but they're not that professional, and accidents and deaths are common."

Rosen scratched his head, looking puzzled. He ran his hand through his hair, none of the places seemed right. "Are there any other places?"

Swagger didn't answer immediately. He turned around, pulled a bottle of iced Rebi from the insulated styrofoam box next to him, twisted off the cap with a "hiss," and took a big gulp. He quite liked the taste; it was sweet and fizzy, milder than cola, and didn't make him feel thirsty after drinking it.

"And Sardinia in Italy." He wiped his mouth and hiccuped. "That's also an option. They train there. You can go if you pay, but I don't know if you can get in with your status—they generally don't recruit Asian trainees. You'll have to try your luck. Europeans are xenophobic, but if you have the right connections, anything is possible. If you know someone there, then you can just pay up."

"Alright then," Rosen said, sounding rather pessimistic.

"Actually, you don't need to participate in this kind of training at all." Swagger shook the bottle in his hand, the ice cubes clinking. "You're not going to the battlefield. In a place like Africa, as long as you don't try to make a big splash, no one can threaten you. Besides, you have drones, right? One flying in the sky can see everything within a radius of several kilometers. Who would dare to cause you trouble?"

"Hey, I've just been free. I keep seeing how amazing special forces soldiers are, and I wanted to see how far I could go. A man has to find something to do in life, right?"

Swagger put the drink back in the case, stared intently at Rosen for a moment, and then said, "Your physical condition is already better than most special forces soldiers. What you lack is battlefield experience and complete control over your body. Most of the top special forces soldiers are better at maintaining focus, ignoring pain, and believing in themselves."

Rosen smiled and walked towards the car. "Alright, alright, stop praising me. I'll get cocky if you keep going."

Night falls quickly in Africa. As soon as the sun sets, it gets dark, and the temperature begins to drop slowly.

Rosen was enjoying the cool evening air in the yard after finishing his meal. In this place, as soon as the heat subsided a little, the mosquitoes arrived, swarming in dense numbers—enough to make mosquito pancakes!

Outdoor lights were hung in the four corners of the yard, and a large mosquito-killing lamp was placed in each corner. The purple-blue light shone dimly and kept making a "sizzling" sound. Occasionally, a burnt smell would waft over depending on the direction of the wind.

Just as I was dozing off, I heard footsteps and laughter coming from outside the courtyard gate.

Several people walked in.

Rosen tilted his head and immediately scrambled up from the recliner. It was Miao Feng and his wife Ma Xiao, along with Hassan and a few others.

"Oh, what a rare guest!" Rosen grinned, revealing a set of white teeth, his voice filled with delight. "Haha, Old Ma, Dr. Pan, congratulations!"

Ma Xiao was incredibly smug, puffing out his chest like a peacock spreading its tail feathers. "Haha, thank you! Thank you so much!"

Pan Wenjia followed behind, looking around the courtyard. The inner courtyard was quite nice, clean and tidy.

They all carried Rosen's potion pouches, which greatly reduced their annoyance from mosquitoes.

"The environment here at Xiao Luo's place is really nice," Pan Wenjia said gently. "The courtyard is really nice, clean and bright. We'll get a courtyard like this when we go back to China."

Ma Xiao immediately fawned over his wife, clinging to her arm: "Okay, okay, I'll do whatever you say. We'll build a bigger one, a pavilion, and plant flowers. It has to be impressive, unlike this garbage dump—"

"Hey, hey, hey!" Rosen protested, pointing at Ma with his fan and laughing, "Old Ma, you can talk if you want, but why are you putting me down? What did my yard do to offend you?"

Ma chuckled twice with a grin.

At this point, Miao Feng laughed and tried to smooth things over: "Haha, we just came out for a stroll tonight and happened to stop by to see you. We also wanted to digest our food."

Rosen smiled and nodded, then turned and shouted into the house, "Patrick! Bring out some chairs!"

A moment later, the black guy who was watching TV with Swag in the living room peeked into the yard, grinned, and quickly carried out two large plastic chairs. He greeted Miao Feng and the others warmly, then called Hassan to come inside with him to get the chairs and drinks.

Swagger didn't come out to join the fun; he simply nodded through the screen door as a greeting. He was a man of few words to begin with, and even less inclined to get involved in such situations. However, the others still managed to glimpse the white man's presence inside through the screen door.

Ma Xiao lowered his voice and asked, "Have we had guests?"

"Yeah," Rosen said casually. "He's only staying here for a few days, then he'll be leaving soon. A friend is here to visit."

Ma Xiao nodded and said "Oh," without asking any further questions, but with a hint of curiosity in her eyes, she glanced at the screen door again.

Miao Feng sat down in his chair, crossed his legs, and said, "There's a basketball tournament for Chinese companies coming up in a few days. Why don't you join in?"

In recent years, under the organization of the Uller Sports Bureau, there has been a basketball tournament every year. In reality, it is just an excuse for Chinese-funded enterprises to get together, drink, and chat.

Last year, Rosen represented Miao Feng's communications company in a competition. It was like bullying a noob. He didn't even bother to play seriously throughout the game—dribbling across the court, taking three steps to make a layup, and the opponents couldn't even touch his shadow.

"I'm not from your company, why would I go there?" Rosen lay back down, rocking the chair, which creaked loudly.

"You represented our company last year, so you have to come this year too!" Miao Feng said matter-of-factly.

Upon hearing this, Ma Xiao couldn't sit still any longer. He slapped his thigh and stood up: "Hey, our company is the one short-staffed! Your telecommunications company is overflowing with talent, one less won't make a difference! Don't try to steal him from me! Rosen, you're representing our company this year!"

Upon hearing this, Rosen couldn't help but roll his eyes and covered his face with a palm-leaf fan: "No way, I won't team up with noobs."
