Chapter 248 A Racing Car Full of Grudges
Giselle shook her head slightly, a hint of resistance flashing in her eyes. "The risk is too great, and I don't want to get involved in this delivery business. You'd better stay away too. Racing is enough as a hobby; it's not worth risking your life for money."
Rosen nodded in agreement, casually remarking, "I have absolutely no interest in this kind of life-threatening work. They only offer $100,000, which isn't even enough to buy a long-travel suspension system for my pickup truck."
He genuinely had no interest in delivering goods to drug dealers. If he wanted to cause trouble, he could have simply arrested Braga and wiped out the entire gang of drug dealers. Who knows, these guys might even have high bounties on their heads. It would be much more worthwhile than delivering goods for a mere 100,000.
Rosen remembered that this group had no sense of contractual obligation; they would kill off the drivers they used without hesitation, otherwise Letty wouldn't have gotten into trouble.
Giselle froze on the spot, looking at Rosen with disbelief.
A suspension system costs over ten thousand US dollars? Is that like installing a magic carpet shock absorber on the car? The world of car enthusiasts for the wealthy is truly beyond her imagination.
Rosen's gaze swept over her sophisticated outfit and the Porsche parked downstairs: "The commission you get from hiring drivers isn't enough to support your upscale apartment and this Porsche."
Giselle's mind was still reeling from the shock of the tens of thousands of dollars hanging in the air, and she blurted out instinctively, "I have other side jobs, and this isn't my only source of income."
Rosen's lips curled into a playful smile as he leaned closer, his tone slightly teasing: "After the competition, I'll have to ask you how many other hidden businesses you have up your sleeve..."
The two chatted idly to pass the time, the sounds of golf clubs hitting the ground on the terrace mixed with the noisy Spanish conversation of the burly men.
Not long after, Gisele glanced down at her watch, got up and walked to Braga's side, whispering a reminder that the selection competition should begin.
A group of people started walking downstairs to the departure area. On the way, Gisele suddenly remembered their earlier conversation and turned to ask, "You said my boss was going to be in trouble, what exactly happened?"
Rosen leaned close to her ear and whispered, "I can smell the cops."
Giselle paused, her eyes instantly hardening: "Really?"
Seeing Rosen nod, she quickly pressed, "Who planted them? Which driver?"
Rosen didn't respond, but instead casually asked, "Are you really that concerned about this job working for them?"
Giselle hesitated for a moment, then sighed softly and whispered her predicament: "My monthly expenses are quite high, and I've also been supporting a friend who's struggling a lot right now..."
In the blink of an eye, the group had arrived at the open-air arena. Rosen and Gisele lagged behind. He quietly took out his portable control terminal and launched a drone, which hovered in the air and overlooked the entire arena. This feature made things much easier for Rosen, allowing the car to drive more smoothly later.
Today's race was much more lively than the last one. Both sides of the asphalt road were crowded with onlookers, and all sorts of modified cars filled the track.
Besides the four prospective delivery drivers who came to participate in the selection, Rosen, Gisele, and Ares also signed up to compete.
When Rosen returned to his car, he found himself sandwiched between two vehicles: Brian's eye-catching Mazda RX-7 and Tang's black Dodge Charger, making it difficult for him to even get in.
Moreover, the two were looking at each other through the car window, their eyes filled with unspoken tension. The ambiguous atmosphere made Rosen's skin crawl and he couldn't help but shiver.
After Rosen squeezed into the car, he looked around listlessly. A silver-gray Chevrolet Camaro SS slowly pulled up next to Brian's car. Ares was in the driver's seat, a cigarette between his fingers, a long ash hanging precariously from the edge of the cigarette.
Ares turned his head to lock onto Rosen, expressionless, and raised his right index finger, making a provocative gesture of slicing across Rosen's throat, clearly indicating that he would show no mercy on the field.
Rosen found it amusing, shook his head slightly, and kindly reminded her through the car window, "Hey, be careful, you're dropping some ash from your cigarette into the car."
At this moment, the golden retriever, who was not far away, heard Rosen's words and his face immediately fell, looking very unhappy.
But since this Camaro isn't Ares's car anyway, there's no way she'd be upset about it.
As time went by, the remaining drivers filled the race track with their modified cars, making the entire road extremely congested.
At the very back of the convoy, a snow-white Nissan 350Z slowly drove into view, and surprisingly, the driver was none other than that bald Luke.
The guy had a large bandage on each side of his head; he was the driver I had hit with the spikes in the last race, who had rolled to his death on the road.
Rosen was secretly astonished. The rollover accident looked extremely horrific, yet this person was alive and kicking to participate in the competition with only two bandages on his head. Could he also be a chosen one with innate luck?
The two pieces of gauze stuck to his bald head looked like a braised egg with two sanitary napkins stuck on it, so funny that it was hard not to laugh.
Luke stared straight at Rosen, grinning widely to reveal a mouthful of teeth, grinning wickedly. His appearance made Rosen wonder if the car accident had knocked his brain out last time.
The next second, the bald man yelled at Rosen at the top of his lungs, "Kid, you tried to play dirty with me last time, didn't you? When the match starts, I'll show you what I'm made of!!"
Rosen curled his lip indifferently, too lazy to look him in the eye again. How much more powerful could he be?
He looked down at the terminal screen on his arm, tapping and swiping with his fingers to adjust the drone's altitude. The higher the drone flew today, the wider the field of vision would be, making it easier for him to monitor the entire competition.
Rosen's complete disregard for him enraged Luke, his eyes turning red and his chest flaring with anger. He secretly vowed that once the match started, he would make Rosen experience the agony of rolling on the ground in a deathly manner.
Luke's gaze shifted, and he caught sight of Ares in the car not far away. His eyes darted around, and he immediately pushed open the car door and ran to the Chevrolet Camaro SS. He half-squatted under the window and whispered to Ares for a long time, seemingly plotting something mischievous.
Although there were many people today, only four people actually ran a proper underground race without rules on the entire track.
Gisele, Ares, Rosen, and the vengeful bald Luke, along with the rest of the drivers, were all stepping into this unregulated, wild racing arena for the first time, where only courage and driving skills mattered.
