Farming Life Starting in Africa

Chapter 243 The Tang Family of the Zhang Family

Rosen glanced down at the stack of books, then looked up at Lone Wolf, and heard Lone Wolf say, "Take a look at these books first, and I'll take you on the plane later to experience them in person."

Rosen had a bit of a headache; he hadn't touched such a thick book in years. After thinking for a moment, he finally spoke up: "Could we skip this...? I'm not really that interested in the theoretical parts; I mainly want to get hands-on with flying."

Lone Wolf stopped and turned to look at him: "Whatever. If you don't want to take the computer test, I'll add two thousand dollars to the amount, and I'll find someone to take it for you."

Upon hearing this, Rosen's eyes lit up, and he deftly tossed the stack of books back onto the folding table: "Then let's try it out on the machine."

Lone Wolf: ...

The two entered the hangar, where light streamed in through the door, illuminating several planes parked side by side. The air inside the hangar carried the mixed smells of engine oil and cleaning agents, along with a faint lingering odor of aviation fuel.

Rosen's gaze swept across the plane, starting from the first one.

A white and blue Cessna 172, with two struts connecting the fuselage above the wings, and a fixed three-point landing gear with small wheels, looked quite sturdy. Next to it was a deep red Piper Warrior, lower than the Cessna, with a low-wing design and smoother lines.

Further inside was a Diamond DA40, with a rounded nose and a bright, curved cockpit canopy. Further in was a Cirrus SR20, with a silver-gray fuselage and more modern lines than the previous aircraft. Its cockpit resembled a skylight, with glass extending all the way to the nose.

These planes all seemed to be a size smaller than the Cessna 185 he used to fly in Africa. The fuselage, wings, and engine nacelle were all noticeably thinner.

For someone like Lawson, big is beautiful, and many are good.

He was only given a few planes to choose from, and they were all small ones, so he wasn't too keen on them.

Do you have a Cessna 185?

Lone Wolf had already walked up to the red and white Cessna 172. He was bending over to inspect the vents under the wing when he heard this. He straightened up, turned around and looked at Rosen with an expression as if he were looking at a lunatic, and said, "That kind of plane is not suitable for beginners. There aren't any here."

He paused, then added, "And what you're learning is private photography, not jungle trekking."

Rosen muttered under his breath, "Well, I actually thought it was pretty good when I first started driving it..."

He recalled his experience in Africa. Although he had flown a long distance in that Cessna 185, he had only taken it on against his will and it wasn't a complete flight, as he wasn't in charge of takeoff and landing.

Lone Wolf seemed not to hear the whisper. He patted the wing of the Cessna 172, his palm making a soft thud on the metal skin. "Try this one first. It's the most stable one among the entry-level aircraft. If you can get a feel for it, you'll be able to switch to other models quickly later."

He opened the cabin door, gestured for Rosen to get into the passenger seat first, then squeezed to the other side and sat in the driver's seat. He adjusted the seat's position and began checking the positions of the knobs and needles on the instrument panel.

Rosen sat down in the passenger seat and looked at the instruments: airspeed gauge, altimeter, attitude indicator, compass, and several rows of switches and buttons. He began to ask what each one was for.

Lone Wolf was a good teacher, showing no impatience and patiently explaining the function of these things to Rosen.

Just as Rosen was learning to fly with Lone Wolf, Family Man returned home from the US-Mexico border and stared blankly at the Dodge Charger parked in the garage.

"After Letty came back, she towed the car back to the repair shop," Mia's voice came from the doorway. She crossed her arms and looked at her brother's back. "She spent a long time fixing it, just waiting for you to come back."

Tang turned around upon hearing the voice and gave his sister a hug.

Mia couldn't help but cry, "You shouldn't have come here. You should have left after Letty's funeral."

Tang looked at her younger sister and tenderly wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes. "Alright, look at you, you're such a grown-up, and you're still crying."

"Are you hungry?" Mia expressed her concern in her own way.

Tang shook his head, walked to the car, and looked down at the cross necklace hanging from the rearview mirror. The silver chain reflected the light slightly, and the edges of the cross were already somewhat worn.

He reached out and pulled it down, holding it in his hand. After a while, he spoke, "I need to go see the scene of the accident."

"Tang, let it go." Mia's tone was calm, which she tried her best to control. "I called you back for her funeral. There are detectives watching here, and it's easy for them to spot you if you go out."

Tang put the necklace in his pocket and turned to look at her. "Detectives? What are they doing here?" he asked, his voice filled with confusion.

Although he was wanted, as long as he didn't openly stroll around on the street, no one would usually bother him.

The US police issue warrants for so many people every year, they can't possibly keep an eye on them all, and besides, he didn't commit any heinous crime.

Mia hesitated for a moment, then spoke in a slightly softer voice: "It was Brian. He guessed you would come back."

Tang's eyes narrowed slightly. "Didn't I tell you to stay away from him?"

Mia opened her mouth as if to explain something, but the words she was about to say were taken back.

She didn't reveal that Brian had arranged for Letty to become a street racer; she was afraid that if she did, Don would smash Brian's head in a moment.

He's also very worried about you.

Don didn't respond to that. He turned and walked towards the door. "Alright, let's go now. Take me to where Letty had the accident."

Seeing his expression, Mia didn't try to persuade him anymore, but turned and walked towards the red car parked at the door.

They drove west along the road that ran through the city of Macallan, where the shops on both sides of the street gradually thinned out. After passing a few traffic lights, the car turned into the edge of an abandoned industrial area.

This is the area near where Rosen and Gisele raced their cars.

Rosen discovered that he did have a talent for learning to fly.

On the afternoon of the first day, he was able to independently complete a series of procedures from starting the engine to taxiing to the runway, and with the help of Lone Wolf, he began to try to take off the plane.

He found himself particularly sensitive to the coordination of throttle thrust and elevator during takeoff; he could sense when the nose should lift without even looking at the dial.
