Farming Life Starting in Africa
Chapter 237 A Gift for Ding Jianguo
Too far from heaven, too close to America.
"African Giants"
I was stunned for a moment. How come this guy has a habit of bothering people in the middle of the night?
Rosen swiped to answer the call. "Hey?" His voice still carried the annoyance of being interrupted from sleep. "Bob, don't you sleep at night?"
Swagger's apologetic voice came from the other end of the phone, "Sorry, Honey Badger, I probably won't be able to come to you for a while."
Rosen rolled over, lying on his back, and held the phone to his ear. "What's wrong? Trouble?"
"I guess so." Swaggle paused for a moment. "I just got a job that requires me to go on a short trip."
Upon hearing this answer, Rosen raised an eyebrow in surprise. "What kind of job is it?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone before someone slowly said, "I can't tell you that."
Rosen perked up immediately. The job Swagger had taken involved traveling far away and required secrecy. Connecting these points, the plot was already vivid in his mind.
This unfortunate kid is going to kill the US Vice President and become a scapegoat along the way.
Rosen wasn't worried that Swagger would die. This guy was the protagonist, a tough guy who could shoot down a helicopter with a sniper rifle. There's no such thing as a protagonist with a short life.
He thought about it and realized that although there were many shady dealings involved in Swagger's involvement, and although it was somewhat dangerous for Rosen, it also presented many opportunities.
Rosen wanted to live a more comfortable life in this land, and perhaps this incident was the opportunity.
"Bob, although I don't know what you're involved in, if you get into trouble," Rosen thought for a moment, then changed his approach, "write down this number. If you run into trouble, you can call this number. That person, out of respect for me, can help you."
Rosen gave a number, another anonymous cell phone number of his. He repeated it twice to make sure Swagger had memorized it.
Swagger was silent for a few seconds, then said, deeply moved, "Honey Badger, there shouldn't be too much danger this time. But... thank you."
Since Downey's death, he has been discharged from the military and returned to the United States, and has not had a normal conversation with anyone for a long time.
Especially after he got a big dog, he became even less willing to interact with strangers.
For the next few days, Rosen enjoyed a leisurely time.
Strangely, Gisele hadn't contacted him in the past few days, which puzzled him greatly. Hadn't she promised to call him?
As expected, all beautiful women are liars; my bonus is gone!
Now, aside from occasionally going to Harry's parking lot at night to collect some decent secondhand vehicles and heavily modify them to gain experience, Rosen now spends his time doing so.
He wanted to create a top-of-the-line vehicle that would outperform all other vehicles on the market in terms of speed, stability, and safety.
Especially when sprinting in a straight line, you won't be overtaken by those idiots with bombs under their butts.
Even those two Harley motorcycles were modified by Rosen to the point that Barney wouldn't recognize them when he rode them again.
Then he began mass-producing guns, ammunition, bombs, and missiles. After the capsule space expanded, he always felt empty if he didn't fill it with more weapons.
He spent the rest of his time figuring out how to catch all the American crocodiles in the river.
Using Liu Pei's method, he has caught two crocodiles over 4 meters long and three smaller ones less than a meter long in the past few nights.
As for the dog that attacked Fu Longsheng that day, Rosen never saw it.
When the sun shines directly overhead, the entire construction site's corrugated iron roof is radiating heat. As usual, several long tables are set up under the canteen, with several large stainless steel basins on them.
Li Niu was stirring the pot with a long-handled ladle, and steam was rising from the edge of the pot, carrying an indescribable aroma of meat.
The workers lined up to get their meals, the stainless steel plates clanging against each other.
The worker who had received his meal sat down with his plate, picked up a piece of meat of unknown origin with his chopsticks, stuffed it into his mouth, chewed it a couple of times, and then squinted his eyes.
When Liu Pei walked over with the tray, Rosen was sitting at the far end of the corner table, with a bowl of rice, a plate of stir-fried crocodile meat slices, and a bowl of refreshing soup in front of him.
The crocodile meat in his bowl was thinly sliced, stir-fried over high heat, and served with some green peppers and garlic slices. The edges of the meat slices were slightly curled up, glistening with a layer of oil. This was a special meal that Li Niu prepared just for him.
Rosen picked up a piece with his chopsticks and put it in his mouth. After chewing it a couple of times, he found the texture to be quite good, somewhere between fish and chicken breast. It didn't have the gamey smell of red meat, nor did it have that special gamey smell like lamb.
The tail part has a better texture, with a slightly chewy, gelatinous feel, similar to bullfrog leg meat, and it gets more fragrant the more you chew it.
Li Niu's cooking was just what Rosen wanted. Rosen was already negotiating with the former cook of the unit about what conditions he would have to stay on his farm and work as his long-term laborer.
Liu Pei sat down opposite him, and his plate contained the same dish as the workers'.
He didn't rush to pick up his chopsticks. First, he glanced around at the workers who were engrossed in their meals, then leaned forward slightly and asked in a low voice, "Mr. Luo, what kind of meat is this?"
Rosen took a sip of soup, swallowed the food comfortably, and said with a smile, "Manager Liu, I really can't tell you this, but I have to thank you for letting me eat this meat."
Liu Pei's eyebrows twitched. He glanced at Rosen, then at the few slices of tender white meat on his plate, and then seemed to understand something. He pointed towards the lake and gave Rosen a questioning look.
Rosen smiled, said nothing, and simply nodded slightly.
Eating crocodile meat is one thing, but talking about it is another. American crocodiles are an endangered species here, and injuring them can lead to jail time and fines.
They eat this stuff every day. If they're found out, all of their green cards will be revoked.
Liu Pei put down his chopsticks, his expression changing from curiosity to confirmation that it was indeed true, and then to shock that this was too outrageous.
American crocodiles can grow to four or five meters long and weigh several hundred kilograms; their mouths can bite through a small tire when they open.
His method for catching the crocodile was just something he mentioned casually, and Liu Pei himself didn't take it seriously. But Rosen actually put it into practice. That thing was so heavy; not only did he manage to subdue it, but he also managed to get it out of the lake.
"Um," Liu Pei rubbed his hands together, as if he was choosing his words, "President Luo, how much do you have left? Could you sell me some? I'd like to give some to President Ding to try."
Rosen glanced at him and asked curiously, "Can you send this over to her?"
Liu Pei nodded. "Yes, air freight will do. Xiao Ding has someone specifically responsible for receiving cold chain shipments; I can just pack it up and send it directly. She's been quite busy at the project site lately, overseeing many things, and I heard she's lost weight from exhaustion..."
Qiangsheng Group has already established a solid presence in the domestic market, leaving limited room for further growth. However, under the management of Ms. Ding, the overseas project department is thriving. Her influence within the company has long since diminished from that of the young woman who first took over the overseas business.
As a close confidant of General Manager Ding, it is only natural for Liu Pei to occasionally curry favor with the future leader.
"Alright, I'll give you one leg, is that enough?"
Although Ding Jianguo was a stingy girl who wouldn't even give him an extra bottle of water, Luo Sen was never stingy.
It's just a leg, nothing special. It's a gift from nature, and it doesn't cost him anything.
