Chapter 224 Avada Kedavra Eats a Big Melon
Several old trees, each over ten meters tall, stand in the center of the courtyard. Their canopies spread out to create a huge, circular shade, beneath which are several sets of white cast-iron tables and chairs, with unfinished cigars and burnt-out matchsticks on the tables.
Only when you get here can you see the overall layout of the main building. The tower you see from the outside is only part of it. Several covered corridors connect the tower, the side buildings and the atrium.
If someone gets lost inside, they might not be able to find the exit in a short time, which makes it even more reminiscent of Hogwarts.
Of course, there wouldn't be someone with a long spear standing at the corner of a corridor in a school. Hmm, it seems there are a lot of statues holding long spears in Hogwarts.
Rosen was worried that Guzman might be a white-bearded old man in a magnificent, colorful robe, a pointed hat on his head, a floor-length cloak draped over his back, and carrying a small wooden stick, who would greet him warmly with, "Avada Kedavra!"
The bald man led them along the stone path. Midway, they encountered three children chasing a ball. The one in front, about five or six years old, almost bumped into Rosen's leg.
Rosen stepped aside, and the child couldn't stop and rushed forward two more steps before turning back to look at him. Then, the nanny, who had caught up from behind, grabbed him and apologized repeatedly.
Deep within the garden lies an open-plan restaurant without exterior walls. Long tables are set up on a wooden platform, shaded by white canvas overhead, and surrounded by low-lying flowerbeds with small white and purple blossoms.
A man was already sitting at the long table reading a newspaper, while two servants were serving dishes on trays of freshly grilled fish and vegetables.
"Wait here for a moment." After saying that, the bald man walked towards the restaurant alone. He walked to the head of the table, bent down and whispered something in the ear of one of the people.
Rosen lowered his voice: "Isn't this place a bit too outrageous?"
Guan Yuming glanced at him sideways, "Are you exaggerating? You've only been in America for a short time and you've already bought land and built a garden."
"That piece of land was given to me by Aunt Mei..." Guan Yuming was so annoyed by his words that he didn't want to talk to him anymore.
At this moment, the man who had been listening to the bald man stand up and walk over. Guan Yuming immediately smiled as well.
The man was probably around fifty years old, with gray hair that was neatly combed. He had a thin face and high cheekbones. He opened his arms and said with a smile, "My friend, if you hadn't come soon, I would have eaten by myself. You know I have diabetes and have to eat on time."
Guan Yuming embraced the man who looked like he was of mixed Native American and Caucasian descent. "Joaquin, I'm here now. Please accept my condolences regarding your brother's passing."
Joaquin Guzman curled his lip and released Guan Yuming. "That bastard Redding never listens to my advice. He never brings enough bodyguards when he goes out to play with women. That's just his fate."
Guan Yuming didn't respond to the conversation. It's best not to comment when someone is talking about their own younger brother, because who knows what their relationship is really like in private?
He changed the subject, saying, "I recently received a notification from people in Sonora that I must cooperate with them, otherwise Chinese goods will no longer be able to pass through Mexico."
The two walked to the restaurant while talking, with Rosen following behind, listening intently.
Joaquin Guzman sat down at the table and said, "Heh, Diaz Jr. was arrested by the Mexican police yesterday, and he was just sent to the United States today. And I've received word that Sonora is about to be in trouble; their people simply don't have the energy to deal with your goods right now."
Guan Yuming immediately asked curiously, "Guillermo Diaz? How did that pervert get caught?"
Joaquin sighed. "Sigh, just like Reading, he was careless while out having fun. But he was caught because his location was leaked by an informant in the Mexican police. I heard Manuel Diaz sent a lot of assassins to rescue him today. They were all killed by the Americans as soon as they passed through the border." Joaquin finished with a gloating expression.
Guan Yuming and Luo Sen exchanged a glance, speechless. So that's what the gunfight they encountered at the border checkpoint was all about!
"Alright, Jackie, let's continue our deal, as we agreed before. However, I need you to help me import some electronics and home appliances from your country; our demand has increased significantly in recent years."
"That's easy to handle. You can take care of the tariffs yourself, right?"
"No problem. We've finally found someone willing to take over after that idiot Alejandro Gilick left."
Guan Yuming murmured, "Alex... I haven't heard from him in so long."
Upon hearing Guan Yuming's words, Hua Jin's eyes flickered slightly, but he did not say anything.
"Alright, everything as usual. Joaquin, let me introduce you. This is my partner, Rosen."
Rosen simply nodded without saying anything.
Joaquin looked at Rosen's young face but didn't have anything to say. He just nodded in acknowledgment. He didn't quite believe that Rosen was Guan Yuming's real partner.
Rosen looked to be about the same age as his second son, while he himself was in his early twenties and still struggling to find food on the streets with his younger brother. He guessed that Rosen was probably a rich second-generation from China, who had come out with Guan Yuming to earn money and gain experience.
After the servants finished serving the dishes, Joaquin Guzman began reciting the Lord's Prayer. Although Rosen wasn't interested in such things, he still followed Guan Yuming's example, bowing his head, closing his eyes, and placing his hands folded on the table.
Suddenly, an interesting idea popped into Rosen's mind. He decided to add a human face to his mask as a way of making it his usual way of going out alone in the future.
It will be quite interesting to see him causing trouble in front of followers of such a sect in the future.
After dinner, Rosen and Guan Yuming left the manor. The car drove out of the wooded area and back into the chaotic yet orderly city of Juarez.
Rosen rolled down the car window a little, and a whiff of smoke from burning stubble and the aroma of fried corn tortillas wafting from the distant market drifted into the car.
Rosen asked curiously, "Uncle Ming, couldn't a phone call have solved this? Why did you have to come all the way here yourself?"
Guan Yuming yawned, rubbed his eyes, and then spoke, "Sigh, doing business is all about avoiding trouble. If you try to cut corners in everything, you'll really run into problems. Otherwise, how will people believe you didn't reach an agreement with the Sonora people? My foundation here in Juarez was built up through countless trips, not by sitting in the office and making a few phone calls."
Rosen didn't understand the business logic behind it at first, but he was curious about something else.
