Farming Life Starting in Africa
Chapter 216 Guan Zu
On American highways, what he needs is a car that can create distance in critical moments.
He's been spending a lot of time online these past few days and has found a lot of interesting things. He's no longer so worried about the American police chasing him in his car.
The American people have a wealth of experience, and with Rosen's ample weaponry, no super cop could catch him.
At night, the Texas highways resemble a flattened black ribbon, with the fields on either side briefly appearing and disappearing into darkness under the headlights.
Rosen gripped the steering wheel as the matte black Dodge Ram drove along the speed limit line. The engine's sound was deep and even, making it difficult to spot at night without the headlights on.
Suddenly, the phone next to Rosen rang. He glanced at the number on the screen; it was the number he had given to Frank earlier.
Rosen reached for the answer button on the steering wheel and said unhurriedly, "Frank, when are you going to give me the potion?"
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone, then Frank's voice came through, "The higher-ups don't agree to give you the drug. The CIA never accepts any blackmail."
"Really? Then why did you agree to Jason Bourne in the first place? Did you suddenly realize your mistake and have a change of heart?" Rosen's tone was teasing. Jason Bourne had threatened them, and they had obediently complied.
Frank was momentarily speechless upon hearing Rosen's sarcasm. They hadn't expected this man to know about the CIA's deal with Jason Bourne. This further confirmed their suspicion that Rosen had high-ranking CIA officials backing him.
"We can't give you this medicine for free," Frank said in a low voice.
Rosen laughed; he had anticipated this answer. "So you're turning this into a deal? That's an old CIA tradition, isn't it? Tell me your terms!"
Frank ignored Rosen's mockery and said, "Help us find Jason Bourne."
Rosen scoffed. "You think you can find Jason Bourne with just one potion? When did he become so cheap?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone. Rosen sensed that there were other people on the other end, indicating that this matter was still important to the CIA, even though Jason Bourne had been missing for so long.
He glanced at the right rearview mirror; the road was deserted at night, without a single car light.
This place in America is really vast and sparsely populated, which makes him want to speed. But there will be plenty of opportunities to speed; he might even have one tonight.
Rosen asked tentatively, "Frank, is that Chief Robert Dewey standing next to you?"
Sure enough, there was static on the other end of the phone. After a while, a more aged voice took the receiver, "Mr. Lion, how did you know I'd be there?"
Rosen chuckled and said, "Frank is just a high-ranking executive; he doesn't have the authority to know everything about Bourne. Only the CIA director would be the one most eager to find Bourne."
The aged voice asked decisively, "Then are you willing to hand over Bourne's address?"
Rosen said mysteriously, "Sorry, I really don't know where Jason Bourne is. But I can keep a secret for you."
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone. So long that Rosen began to wonder if the other person had already hung up, then Dewey's voice came through again, "I don't think I have any secrets that you need to keep for me."
Rosen smiled when he heard the answer. If Dewey really didn't have any secrets, he would have answered Rosen's question right away, instead of waiting for a while. Most likely, he had already sent his men away during that short time before speaking.
"Director Dewey, deep in a dream..."
Rosen only mentioned the company's name; he didn't need to say anything else. Dewey certainly understood what he meant.
The CIA, under his authorization, recently contacted DeepDream Group. The CIA wants to collaborate with their social media platform to obtain massive amounts of social data.
DeepDream Company is similar to Project Prism.
After about ten seconds, Dewey's voice rang out again, "How should I give you the potion?"
Rosen then delivered his prepared explanation, "Put the item in the small box outside the church where Frank and I will meet before dawn. Don't have anyone watching it, otherwise..."
Dewey's voice carried a hint of scrutiny, "If you've already obtained the drug, how can I ensure you won't leak that information?"
"To be honest, I don't really need that information. I just need a bargaining chip to exchange for something I need. If I already have those things, I won't sell that information to anyone else."
Suddenly, laughter came from Robert Dewey's end. "Heh heh, Mr. Guan Zu, I'm sure you don't want to be a wanted criminal again, do you?"
Rosen was speechless upon hearing this title. Had these people really found Ah Zu? But Ah Zu should be dead by now, right? After all, Guan Yuming hadn't been a policeman for many years.
The CIA has been scanning Rosen's face using roadside surveillance footage for the past two days. They then spent a significant amount of time and effort reviewing all the files they could find.
Finally, in the remaining files of MI6, they found a person from Hong Kong, but when the CIA followed up, they discovered that this person had died many years ago.
The deceased's name was Kwan Cho, and he was killed by Hong Kong police in a terrorist attack.
Guan Zu's entire team died during that period, so the CIA was completely baffled as to where this person came from.
They could only send their men to impersonate international police and contact Guan Zu's father, Guan Zhenbang, to see if he could obtain any information.
That unfortunate superintendent has been guarding the archives in Yuen Long for several years.
When asked about it, he was completely baffled and insisted that his son had died in front of him.
When Guan Zu is mentioned, Guan Zhenbang still curses and swears. Because of this precious son, his promising future was completely ruined, and he was sent to a godforsaken place for several years, where he can only wait for retirement.
However, CIA intelligence personnel unanimously believed that Guan Zu was not dead.
Because they also obtained information about a gunfight that happened in Hong Kong this year, and one of the gunmen's photos matched the appearance of this Guan Zu, who was also wearing a fox mask similar to the one Guan Zu used back then.
Rosen didn't care whether Azu was dead or not; this was just an alias for him. "Alright then, I'll keep it a secret once I get the potion, and you must keep my identity a secret too."
After saying that, Rosen hung up the phone.
At CIA headquarters, Robert Dewey returned to the room and looked at Heather Lee, the CIA's operations director. "Have you found his location?"
"We found it. His phone's location shows he's in Austin, not far from that church."
