Farming Life Starting in Africa

Chapter 208 Barney Asked for a High Price

Barney turned to the church and asked bluntly, "How much?"

Trench chuckled and tilted his head toward Barney: "Sure enough, that idiot showed up."

Barney's face darkened, and he looked toward the trench, preparing to hurl a few words at him.

But Zhanhao had already spoken up, "I'm very busy. Let these two capable people do this job that can make a lot of money."

He winked at Barney. "Especially Barney, he loves rolling around in the jungle. Am I right, Barney?"

Barney nodded, not denying it.

Zhanhao pulled a cigar from his pocket, handed it to him, and said, "How about we grab a bite to eat sometime?"

Barney was startled by the change in the trenches, wondering what the old man was up to. "When?"

The trench grinned and said, "After you're dead."

Barney gave him a knowing look. "Then if you want to eat with me, you'll have to die with me."

Zhanhao smiled and turned to walk towards the door. He didn't want to waste any more time here. He had a lot of things to do. His workload had been quite heavy lately, which wasn't very kind to an old man like him.

The church figure watched the retreating figure in the trenches: "Is there something wrong with him?"

Barney put his cigar in his coat pocket. "I heard he's thinking of running for governor..."

The church shook its head and turned its gaze to the Asian man who had been sitting on the pew: "Mr. Shadow, are you interested in this mission?"

Fu Longsheng gently shook his head: "I'm sorry, Mr. Church, this task is beyond my capabilities."

He understood his strengths: he excelled in urban warfare, wilderness survival, and assassination. He took on this mission to provide his adopted sons with opportunities for practical training.

He didn't want the young people he had painstakingly trained to face a brutal local warlord as their first opponent.

The church readily accepted the answer: "It's alright, we'll have another chance to work together. I have high hopes for your abilities. I'll contact you again if there's suitable work in the future."

Fu Longsheng stood up and nodded politely towards the church: "Okay, then I look forward to Mr. Church's task." He then nodded slightly to Barney and turned to walk towards the door.

Barney watched his two rivals leave, then turned his gaze back to the church.

With a hint of smugness, he said, "I bet no one dares to take your job. So I'll ask for five million US dollars!"

The church elevates its eyebrows slightly: "Five million?"

Barney thought he had overcharged, but he felt he was worth it, so he added, "I need you to pay half upfront, and the other half will be transferred to an overseas account. Is that okay?"

The church looked at Barney with a stern face for a moment, then said, "Of course not."

In fact, he had prepared a budget of 20 million US dollars for this mission, and he was even allowed to increase it if necessary. If Barney asked for a higher price, he would consider approving it.

However, the other party only needs five million to get this job, which allows me to free up some money to do other things.

"I hate being played," the church said, squinting at Barney. "If you take the money and don't do the work, I and my men will chop you and your men into pieces and feed them to the dogs. Understand?"

Barney remained unfazed by the church's threats. He met the church's gaze and said, "Let's talk about the details."

As Fu Longsheng walked out of the main door, it slowly closed behind him with a dull thud. He glanced around at the surroundings outside the church and suddenly spotted a corner not far away.

A tall Asian man, leaning against the wall, wearing a dark coat, with his hands in his pockets, stared intently at him in a relaxed manner.

Fu Longsheng adjusted his walking direction and stopped about two steps away from the person.

He quickly went through all the Asian faces he knew in his mind, but couldn't find anyone on the list who matched this face.

"Sir, is there anything I can help you with?"

The tall Asian man looked at him, his voice younger than Fu Longsheng had expected, "Are you here on a mission too?"

Fu Longsheng's eyes narrowed slightly. He didn't answer the question directly, but instead probed from a different angle: "Are you with the church, or with Barney?"

The man shook his head. "No, I'm no one's man. Leave me your phone number; I sometimes have assignments, and we can collaborate then."

Fu Longsheng did not respond immediately. "What's your name? Which side do you belong to?"

The tall Asian man grinned, a somewhat sinister smile on his face. "I don't belong to either side. You can call me Azu. I have some supply channels here. If you want more options, you can contact me."

Rosen was thinking of getting in touch with the Wolf King so that he could eventually get in touch with his wolf cubs.

They exchanged contact information, Fu Longsheng nodded, and then turned and left along the street.

After Fu Longsheng's figure disappeared around the street corner, the man by the wall took out his personal control terminal, which was displaying images and sounds from inside the church. He still had to wait for the person in charge.

This Asian man was Rosen, who, using Azu's face, had followed Barney all the way here. He had installed surveillance cameras in the church beforehand and was watching what was happening inside through a stripped-down terminal copied from the Linyi warship.

He wasn't interested in the mission Barney was about to take on on Vilana Island. The island was nothing but drugs and warlords; it had nothing to do with him, and the rewards weren't high.

But he was interested in the person at the church. He was a high-ranking CIA officer who had access to many things he hadn't had when he first arrived in the United States.

He needed to obtain some intelligence through the church, especially intelligence that only their CIA high command knew.

Once Qian Bida arrives in the United States, he plans to create a pseudonym to establish a PMC company, build his own team, and complete and acquire some interesting tasks and items.

His current weapons are mostly Chinese and Soviet types, which would be too conspicuous to pull out here. As for American equipment, he only got a small portion from Swage, so he doesn't have many options.

He plans to rent a few guns from a gun shop in the next couple of days to replicate them, adding variety to his arsenal. Texas has relatively lax regulations on gun rentals; as long as one's identity is clean, the paperwork is straightforward.

He also wanted to know if there were any good American guns. He was used to the AK74 and PKM general-purpose machine gun, and he always felt uncomfortable using other guns.

Without keeping Rosen waiting long, Barney came out of the door, walked straight to the black vintage car parked by the roadside, and drove away.
