Chapter 199 Speed and Passion?

Barney was clearly dissatisfied with the perfunctory answer, but he couldn't say anything. If it had been a man speaking to him like that, he would probably have put a gun to his head and made him think carefully about whether he had any other answers, but he wouldn't go too far with a woman.

Rosen watched the spectacle with a leisurely air. He shifted his gaze from Barney to the car factory, where most of the cars were under repair—radiators removed, suspensions jacked up, paint half-finished. There weren't many that particularly interested him.

Then he noticed the car in the corner, parked quietly in the shadows, not very conspicuous, but something extra on its hood intrigued Rosen. It was a 1970 Dodge Charger.

Rosen walked over and stopped in front of the car. The entire car had a glossy black finish, and the original R/T badge was still visible above the right rear fender.

There is a huge bulge in the center of the hood, which is the supercharger intake shell. It is wide and thick, like a bulge that has grown out of the engine hood, extending from above the air intake grille to the front of the windshield.

The headlights are retro-style round and are embedded on both sides of the grille.

There were no extra decorations in the car, except for a silver cross hanging on the rearview mirror, which swayed slightly under the light.

The driver's seat is a racing-style bucket seat with a multi-point seatbelt, while the passenger seat has been removed.

The steering wheel is a retro three-spoke racing style, and there is no airbag. This design relies solely on the seat belt for safety. In the event of a collision, there would be only a thin layer of air separating the driver's chest from the steering wheel.

Rosen's gaze paused when it fell on the inconspicuous dial next to the main dial, which displayed the nitrogen pressure value and whose pointer was at zero.

He stared at the dial for two seconds, and the first thought that popped into his head was, "This must be a huge bomb in the car."

If you're unlucky enough to crash into it, and it triggers a nitrous oxide tank explosion, it could blow the people inside the car to pieces, making the cleanup a huge hassle.

As he was examining the car, the tall, thin Mexican woman next to him walked over: "You don't look like a local?"

Rosen looked away and glanced at her sideways: "I just came to America. My name is Rosen."

When the woman heard the name, she raised an eyebrow slightly: "LAWSON? Is that the convenience store chain from Japan?"

Rosen frowned, his tone carrying a hint of displeasure at being crossed: "Miss, that's very impolite of you. I'm Chinese, don't associate me with anything Japanese."

The woman shrugged, a hint of apology in her expression as she realized she'd misspoke: "Okay, sorry, my name is Mia. What are you looking for here? Did you lose your car too?"

Rosen recognized the name immediately; wasn't that Family Hero's sister? He looked around the repair shop; it looked somewhat abandoned and didn't seem like Family Hero herself was running it.

He recalled the plot of that movie; perhaps that bald man should have been wanted and fled.

He stopped looking at her and turned his gaze back to the Dodge: "I want to buy a car. This one's nice; I really like it. Is it for sale?"

Mia followed his gaze to the black Dodge, her eyes filled with a complex, indescribable emotion: "This isn't for sale. It belongs to my brother. It's beautiful, isn't it?"

Rosen nodded, his gaze never leaving the car. "It's really good. Very rugged. If it were me, I could probably modify it even better. The suspension could be lowered a bit more, and with a reinforced chassis, the roll control would be even better."

Mia was surprised, her tone tinged with disbelief: "You can modify cars?"

Rosen shrugged. "A little bit. Once my house is built, it'll have a huge garage."

Mia's tone held a hint of curiosity: "Huh? Your house is still under construction?"

She seemed interested. These days in America, only the wealthy build their own houses; people like them buy secondhand homes. Property taxes are outrageously high, so only the wealthy have the option of asset hedging.

The two chatted and became acquainted. She said that there were quite a few Asians in the city, as well as a Chinatown, but her family didn't get along well with the Asians in Chinatown. She didn't like them very much because they weren't very law-abiding.

Rosen disagrees, arguing that compared to other races, Chinese people are among the most law-abiding wherever they are.

Mia said that all the cars here are under repair. If you want to buy a car, the best place is Harry's Racing Pioneer Parts Shop. The owner, Harry, sells used cars on the side. If Barney's motorcycle is sold locally, Harry will definitely get the news.

Rosen wasn't optimistic about this; the motorcycle was still in his capsule space, let alone Harry, the owner of the parts store.

I'm sure it's Harry Potter. Unless he used Legilimency on Rosen, no one will be able to find those two motorcycles.

Mia also subtly hinted that she could use her name to buy the car, and there would be a discount.

This led Rosen to mistakenly believe that he could make a living based on his looks.

Barney waited for a while, watching Rosen chat and laugh with the tall, thin woman, and finally grew impatient: "Rose, I'm going to check out that parts store now, are you coming?"

Rosen gave Mia a regretful look: "Then let's talk again next time." He said, then followed Barney's footsteps, glancing back at the Dodge before walking out the door.

He really liked this car. It had undergone extensive modifications, and its speed was already insane compared to ordinary modified cars.

If we disregard the nitrogen boost that can send people flying, this car can easily cover 400 meters in under 10 seconds.

It's important to know that a car with this level of performance has already reached the threshold of professional track racing.

Rosen was eager to know Tang's car modification strategy. The United States has a large number of muscle cars, and sometimes, they really can achieve amazing results with great force. Who knows, he might have to perform his own speed and passion here in the future.

After Rosen and Barney's footsteps had completely disappeared outside the door, Mia was still staring at the Dodge, lost in thought. Letty walked over to her and reached out to lower the hood of the Dodge.

Then she leaned against the hood of the car, looked at Mia, and said, "It's been a long time since I've seen you smile."

Mia paused for a moment, "Really?"

Letty chuckled. "That Asian kid wasn't a good fit for you."

Mia rolled her eyes. "You're overthinking it. I was talking to him because he also likes Don's car, and it's been a long time since anyone talked to me about my brother."
