Farming Life Starting in Africa

Chapter 103 Bounty in Hand

Zhou Weijie shook his head. "Although she is a mid-level member of the organization, women have a very low status here." His tone was tinged with helplessness. "In that kind of organization, women are just appendages. They don't have much to manage, and they have even less access to core intelligence."

He paused, then rubbed his nose with the back of his hand. "The reason she's famous is because of Zaka's propaganda tactics—women always have a natural advantage. And her most recent appearance was near the site of the presidential assassination. Now that she's here, it's clearly aimed at the family of the current acting president of Ivia."

After listening, Rosen pointed to the bomb belt that had been removed from the ground and said to the government soldiers who were still standing there in a daze, "Hey, you guys, take care of this thing first."

It contains TNT, a high explosive. Even without the detonator, what's the point of leaving it on the street? If some clueless person picks it up and uses it as butter to make pancakes, that would be outrageous.

The soldiers exchanged glances, one of them muttering something under his breath in the local dialect. But they obediently found a blast-proof container, carefully stuffed their belts inside, and carried it away. Their movements were so slow, it was as if they were moving an heirloom piece of porcelain.

Zhou Weijie glanced at the woman still struggling slightly on the ground and took out a cell phone he had taken from her. It was a disposable phone; Zhou Weijie checked the call log and found only one number. The most recent call was around 10 PM last night.

He handed the phone to Rosen.

Rosen took the phone, looked at it over and over, but didn't find anything special.

"How's it going?" Rosen held the phone up to his face. "Did you get any news about Deng Mei?"

Upon hearing Rosen's words, Miao Feng and Leng Feng both came over.

"Dunmei is very likely in the town of Basem, 110 kilometers away. The Zaka group occupied it two weeks ago. Now it has become their temporary base."

When Leng Feng heard this answer, he was also stunned for a moment. "So he's with Dane Military Company?" His voice carried a complex emotion of "what a coincidence."

Zhou Weijie looked at them in surprise: "You guys found out too? Where did you hear that from?"

Rosen briefly recounted the events at the Huabang Steel Plant and the time his father had called to threaten him into going to the town of Basem.

After hearing this, Zhou Weijie's expression changed from surprise to speechlessness.

He had paid for the information, but Rosen overheard the same location name for free on the kidnappers' phone call. This made him feel like he'd wasted his money.

"Dane Corporation also moved there last week, and their firepower is now incredibly abundant. Intelligence says they brought a lot of heavy weapons, including three M60 Patton tanks and three Soviet third-generation T-72B tanks, as well as more than two hundred fully armed elite soldiers."

Hearing those numbers, Leng Feng felt a chill run down his spine. If he were facing so many tanks, he would have no choice but to avoid a direct confrontation. Those were tanks that could only be dealt with using high-powered weapons, and Rosen hadn't brought any tanks with him.

The anti-aircraft guns on the pickup trucks were like tickling those tanks.

Rosen, on the other hand, seemed completely unconcerned. The pumpkin bombs on the drone wouldn't actually damage these behemoths. But couldn't they just increase the explosive charge? Five kilograms of TNT would absolutely destroy all the external equipment of these tanks, turning them into immobile lumps of metal. Then, these tanks would just be piles of scrap metal.

"The main problem is," Zhou Weijie's voice pulled Rosen back from his thoughts, "that they have at least two hundred fully armed elite soldiers over there. With just a few of us, there's no way we can rescue them."

This town is not like the Iron Army's mines. In the mines, the terrain can be used to your advantage; the narrow passages prevent the enemy from deploying their forces effectively.

Zhou Weijie and Leng Feng can draw fire from the front and suppress them briefly, allowing Rosen to rush in alone to rescue people.

But in a small town, they would be facing a swarm of over two hundred soldiers and heavy weapons. If they were discovered, not only would the hostages be difficult to rescue, but they themselves would also be at risk.

Even if Rosen's forces could suppress the enemy temporarily, they were still a drop in the ocean against sheer numbers. As long as they were willing to sacrifice casualties and employ a split-pronged encirclement strategy, the enemy simply couldn't stop them.

Moreover, their clothing can only protect against bullets that are "not too overpowered," and when faced with high-powered weapons, people can easily die one after another.

Furthermore, Rosen knew that Dane Company had quite a few snipers. There were definitely more than just one marksman of "One-Ear's" caliber. Against a high-powered sniper rifle, at slightly closer range, even body armor would be of little use.

Just as the group was getting worried, Zhao Haiguang, the political commissar of the Linyi warship, walked towards Luo Sen and his companions.

"Comrade Xiao Luo, this is..." Zhao Haiguang looked at the woman tied up on the ground, then at the Nissan Sunny next to him that had been wrecked beyond recognition.

"Boss, we just caught a mid-level member of Zaka's organization outside. This is the cell phone we seized from her; it might give us some clues."

Rosen handed over the disposable phone.

Rosen contacted the Navy, hoping they could locate the phone's communications. The government forces didn't have that capability, but the Navy had the technology, equipment, and professional electronic reconnaissance personnel.

However, the intelligence Zhou Weijie brought back already told them that the Zaka organization's stronghold was also in the town of Basem. Whether or not the phone was located was no longer so important.

Rosen's attention shifted to something more important. "That... the bounty on her..."

Zhao Haiguang felt a slight itch on his scalp. Were all these Chinese businessmen in Africa this reckless? Resting overnight at the port, and then casually arresting a terrorist at daybreak?

"We don't care about the reward," Zhao Haiguang said, trying to keep his tone calm. "We can check the information on the phone."

"Actually..." Rosen scratched his head, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "We've also obtained intelligence about the Zaka organization. Dunme is very likely in the town of Basem."

Zhao Haiguang wondered if he was still half asleep. He stared at Rosen for a while, then asked, his voice slightly unsteady.

"Sure."

"How did you get this news?"

"Hehe, I bought it with money."

"Come with me." Zhao Haiguang turned and walked towards the Linyi warship, clutching the disposable cell phone in his hand, his pace twice as fast as when he came.

Zhou Weijie leaned closer to Rosen and whispered, "I'm not going. People without proper identification can't board the ship. I'll just go collect my bounty."
