Lin Yue'e immediately squeezed through the crowd to get off the bus. Gu Jingyan, carrying the baby in his arms, had someone help him throw the two bundles out the window.

"If you get off halfway, your tickets won't be refunded," the ticket seller said as she watched Gu Jingyan get off the bus.

"Fine, we won't take the seat then. She's vomited like this."

The smell was so strong after that woman vomited in the car that several people felt nauseous and wanted to throw up. Even he, a grown man, couldn't stand the sour and foul odor.

Lin Yue'e ran to a big tree by the roadside, squatted down and vomited for a while before she came back to life.

Gu Jingyan stood beside him, holding the child.

"It's alright. Let me wipe it."

Lin Yue'e looked up and saw him handing her a square handkerchief.

He took it and wiped his mouth with it.

"It's nothing, it's just the smell from earlier."

Lin Yue'e helped Gu Jingyan up. The two looked at the luggage on the ground and laughed.

"What do we do now? How far is it from home?"

"It's still a long way off. Let's wait here and see if any tricycle drivers come by."

The two squatted by the roadside and waited for about half an hour before Gu Jingyan finally called on a man riding a tricycle to stop.

"Hey bro, wanna pick up some fares?"

There are people in the city who do this, but they don't dare to do it openly for fear of being arrested. Usually, if they do manage to recruit someone, they'll say it's a relative of their own.

"Where are you going?"

"Go to Lane 3, Heping Road, West of the City."

"You have a lot of stuff, one yuan for two people."

"Okay, one yuan it is."

Gu Jingyan was too lazy to haggle with people. It was already past one o'clock, and they had a child with them. If they missed this opportunity, they didn't know when they would have to wait again.

The items were placed in the tricycle compartment, and the two sat down.

The older brother started riding his tricycle.

"If we run into a car checkpoint later, you know what to say, right?"

"I know, we're family. I'm your cousin, and this is my wife. She brought some things from the countryside to visit relatives."

Lin Yue'e looked at Gu Jingyan. Why make such a fuss over something as simple as taking a car ride?

Gu Jingyan reached out and patted her head.

"I have a surprise for you when we get home."

"What surprise?"

You'll know when you get there.

As they gradually entered the city, more and more people were riding bicycles. The people were dressed neatly and fashionably, much more so than in the countryside, which made her rustic country girl outfit stand out.

Occasionally, you can still see signs on the roadside with white backgrounds and red lettering that read "People's Commune" or "State-run Restaurant".

Lin Yue'e looked like a country bumpkin visiting the city, looking around with curiosity.

After riding for more than half an hour, the tricycle finally stopped at the entrance of an alley. The driver then escorted the two of them to the door of a house. The place was a bit remote, but thankfully still within the city limits.

Is this the place?

Lin Yue'e was surprised that the house Gu Jingyan mentioned buying actually came with a small courtyard, although it wasn't very big. But buying such a small courtyard in the provincial capital must have cost a considerable amount of money.

"Yes, this is it."

Gu Jingyan stepped forward, took out the key, and opened the door. The black lacquered wooden door made a loud thud as it opened.

Lin Yue'e carried her son into the house and looked around each room. There were three bedrooms and an additional kitchen. The yard outside wasn't big, but it was nice to grow some flowers there when she had nothing to do.

Of course, she has space for growing vegetables. She doesn't need it here. The house is all newly furnished and cleaned.

"Did you set this up?"

Lin Yue'e thought that since Gu Jingyan was going to school, it would be good enough if she could buy a place for the mother and son to live. After they came, she would have to slowly tidy up and buy all the necessary things.

I didn't expect to be able to move in right away. It was quite a pleasant surprise.

"I bought this house before you gave birth, and I come over every weekend when I have time off to tidy it up. Weijun also comes over to help. Oh, and I'm going to cook a meal later; he'll be coming over too."

Gu Jingyan moved all the things into the room first, and Lin Yue'e followed him in. The room was decorated quite warmly.

The blankets and everything else are new. The room is bright and airy, with a flowerpot next to the window. The roses in the flowerpot are all in bloom.

"We'll stay in this room from now on. You can decide on the other two."

"Hmm, this one is quite nice." There's also a wooden stroller in the corner.

Lin Yue'e placed the child on the bed. Fortunately, the child was still awake.

The little guy also stared wide-eyed at this place he had never been before.

"I'm going to wash my face." Although Lin Yue'e felt better now, her head was still a little heavy because of motion sickness.

"Okay, wash up and then lie down and rest for a while."

Gu Jingyan put the things away first and then went to the kitchen. Lin Weijun would be off work soon.

He said he'd come over today. After he arrives, I'll tell him about the situation back home.

After washing her face and rinsing her mouth, Lin Yue'e felt better and then saw Gu Jingyan already cooking in the kitchen. So she stood by the kitchen.

"You have class tomorrow, right? So, will you be living at school or at home?"

Lin Yue'e still doesn't know where the school is or how far it is.

"Yes, yes, I have to go back to school after I eat."

If I want to live off-campus at the school, I need to submit an application. Once it's approved, I can come back to live there.

"No, is the school far from here? If it's too far, I think you should live on campus. I've already moved here anyway. You can come back every week during your holidays. Otherwise, you'll waste all your time on the road, and it won't be convenient for attending classes."

Lin Yue'e thought to herself, "Please don't apply to be a day student. It would be so inconvenient for me if you came back every night."

Gu Jingyan didn't think that much about it; he assumed Lin Yue'e was just worried about him running back and forth.

"You should still apply, otherwise I'm worried about you taking care of the child alone at home."

Hearing him say that, Lin Yue'e wanted to say something more, but felt that saying too much would be like kicking him out. She decided to keep quiet; after all, the house was given to her and her daughter.

"Then I'll go take a nap first."

Lin Yue'e was a little sleepy after starting her journey early in the morning.

After returning to the house, she lay down on the bed and hugged and kissed her beloved son.

"Little handsome boy, come sleep with Mommy first."

When I woke up again, I smelled the aroma of food and heard people talking in the outer living room.

"How are you going to handle this matter concerning your parents?"

"I'll be going back in the next couple of days. I never imagined my father was this kind of person," Lin Weijun said.

She looked at the bed; the child was gone.

After getting up, he put on his shoes and went outside.

As soon as I stepped outside, I saw Gu Jingyan holding the child.

"Sister, you're awake."

The two stopped talking when they heard the door open. Lin Weijun was very happy to see Lin Yue'e come out.

"Are you hungry? Sit down and eat."

The three sat together for a meal, and Lin Weijun's expression darkened. Lin Yue'e knew this was because Gu Jingyan had already told him about his family situation. She immediately asked:

"Wei Jun, you already know about what happened at home, right? What are you going to do about it?"

Lin Yue'e was just looking for a spectacle. Although she acknowledged Lin Weijun as her younger brother, it didn't change the fact that the person she hated most was still Lin Xiangyang.

"Go back and ask my mother. This matter mainly depends on my mother."
