Su Jinsheng gave her a deep look, as if he had heard some absurd joke.

That look in his eyes contained only condescending pity.

Pity a naive fool who is unaware of the storms that are about to befall him.

"It seems you've never seen Qi Yuge truly insane."

She turned around, her high heels clicking on the floor tiles, each step confident and assertive.

As she reached the door, she turned her head slightly, leaving behind a light, fleeting curse.

"Little sister, just you wait and see."

"The devil is waiting for you."

I'm waiting too.

After you were abandoned, you were thrown into the trash heap like a rag doll.

The wind chimes on the door jingled for a long time before falling silent.

Li Yaoyao stared intently in the direction she disappeared, then her legs went weak and she slumped down on the waiting chair.

Chen Wang rushed over to support her, his voice filled with concern.

"Boss, are you alright? How can she be so arrogant!"

"The sheer force of this coup..."

Li Yaoyao patted her chest and let out a long breath.

"I was terrified."

Chen Wang hesitated, glancing at the doorway.

"Is she really going to open a shop right next to us?"

Li Yaoyao pouted.

"Oh well, whatever."

—It's not up to her to decide; it all depends on whether Qi Yuge is willing to help.

She has no right to make decisions for that man.

Chen Wang suddenly remembered something, took out his phone from his pocket and looked through his work log.

"By the way, boss, Shang Hesheng's little meerkat is almost cured, and the rehabilitation assessment is fine."

Should I send it to him?

Li Yaoyao thought for a moment, then stood up, took off her pink jacket, and hung it on the hanger.

"I'll go. I'll see if his broken leg has healed yet."

The last time she ran into Ren Heng at the manor, the bodyguard casually mentioned it to her.

It is said that Qi Shao made Shang Hesheng happily lie down for three months.

Giving Pengpeng away wasn't her goal, and she wouldn't return him to him anyway.

Shang Hesheng has recently been recuperating in a detached villa in the city center, not far from a pet hospital.

The maid led her through the corridor and pushed open the door to the study.

Li Yaoyao hugged the little meerkat in her arms tightly, took a deep breath, and then paused for a moment.

Surprisingly, Shang Hesheng was not as cynical as he had imagined.

He is drawing.

The man sat behind the easel in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.

She casually draped a dark gray velvet bathrobe over her shoulders.

His injured leg was resting on a soft stool, and he was holding a palette, intently staring at the canvas.

The afternoon sun shone from behind him, bathing his entire silhouette in a warm golden light.

Even the usual cold and menacing aura was somewhat diluted.

Li Yaoyao walked over, her gaze passing over his shoulder and landing on the canvas.

It was an image of the Holy Mother and Angels.

The Virgin Mary's face was gentle and holy, her eyes slightly lowered, her hands folded in front of her chest, and a pair of huge white wings spread behind her.

Every stroke is exquisitely detailed; the folds of the robes, the texture of the hair, and the distinct highlights on the wings seem to be truly bathed in holy light under the sunlight.

Pengpeng peeked out from her arms, saw Shang Hesheng, let out a weak whimper, and buried her face back into her chest.

Shang Hesheng didn't look up. His paintbrush hovered in front of the canvas as he focused on adding a highlight to the angel's eye, his tone casual and languid.

"Is it pretty?"

Li Yaoyao nodded awkwardly.

She lacked artistic talent and couldn't offer a nude portrait without batting an eye.

The person in the painting only has a tattered cloth wrapped around their lower body. The thin cloth barely covers the vital parts, and the edges are painted semi-transparent, vaguely revealing the texture of the skin underneath.

"it's beautiful."

She offered a dry compliment.

"She's just wearing a little too little."

She paused, then couldn't help but ask.

"Are you drawing Su Jinsheng?"

Shang Hesheng lifted his eyelids and gave her a light sneer.

That smile held a hint of amusement, a touch of mockery, and a hint of something profound that she couldn't decipher.

"Don't pretend. You really can't tell who this is?"

Li Yaoyao choked up.

Her gaze returned to the canvas.

Those slightly drooping eyes, the curve of her eyelashes, the slightly upturned outline of her nose, and the small mole below her collarbone that she saw in the mirror every day.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

Shang Hesheng really didn't get that beating for nothing.

She didn't ask any unnecessary questions.

Shang Hesheng put his paintbrush down beside the palette, slowly stood up with his cane, and took a step closer to her.

Without the easel to shield him, his aura became sharp and dangerous once again.

His narrow eyes were fixed on her, and his voice lowered, carrying a hint of barely perceptible grievance.

"I've been waiting for you for so long. Why did it take you so long to come see me?"

Li Yaoyao took a half step back, holding Pengpeng in her arms as a shield, her tone cold and hard.

"I'm just here to tell you that Pengpeng is mine now. You have absolutely no credibility with me anymore."

Shang Hesheng's gaze fell on the trembling little meerkat.

He reached out and tentatively touched Pengpeng's head with his long, slender fingers.

Pengpeng suddenly shrank back, curling his body into a ball and burying his head deep in Li Yaoyao's arms, letting out soft, fearful whimpers.

He looked at his hand hanging in the air, suddenly gave a wry smile, and pulled his hand back into his pocket.

"Fine, you can take it. It's annoying to look at it."

He slowly walked to the French windows, leaning on his cane, his back to her, his voice lowered.

"This little meerkat was given to me by Su Jinsheng when I went to Africa to find her."

"I've liked her since high school..."

"But I was very insecure back then and never dared to confess my feelings."

Li Yaoyao subconsciously replied.

"...I didn't realize that."

Shang Hesheng chuckled softly, a short, light laugh tinged with self-mockery.

He continued, speaking slowly and in a flat tone.

"After I met Su Jinsheng, she taught me and introduced me to the young masters in Beijing's elite circles."

"She told me not to accept my fate, but to be positive and strive to climb higher."

"But before she could pull me out of the abyss, she dumped me and ran away."

Li Yaoyao gently stroked Peng Peng's back.

"She's dating Qi Yuge?"

"I was the one who met her first."

Shang Hesheng's voice remained calm, but his fingers, resting on the windowsill, slowly curled up, his knuckles turning white.

"What she gave me was like a fleeting moment."

"After that... even though I kept struggling in the abyss, even though I tried my best to climb up again and again, I would be thrown back to my original form again and again, with my head bleeding."

"But there's no one left to pull me up."

Li Yaoyao remained silent for a while before speaking, her voice very soft.

"Actually, climbing out of the abyss isn't necessarily a good thing. The outside world might be even more terrifying than the abyss."

This is based on her experience as a seasoned socially anxious person.
