Death Train: SSS-level talent right from the start!

Chapter 38 [Corpse City] Skill Book

Visibility in the square was less than 20 meters.

The lampposts were only blurry outlines in the fog, and the blood moon overhead was completely obscured by the mist.

The lizard-headed corpse still lay in the center of the square, its massive body resembling a huge rock in the night.

The gray-black armor plates were covered with cracks, and black liquid seeped from the wounds, pooling into a small puddle beneath the corpse.

Scattered on the ground were steel pipes, kitchen knives, broken glass, and various other unidentifiable debris, as well as several pools of darker blood.

The bodies of those killed by the lizard-headed man were already incomplete, but Chen Ye didn't go to look at them.

His gaze was fixed on the faint halo of light next to the lizard-headed corpse.

The hemispherical light shield was still there, and the books inside were still there, gleaming faintly in the night.

Chen Ye squatted down and reached out to test it. His fingertips were blocked by an invisible barrier about ten centimeters away from the light shield.

The barrier wasn't hard, but it was as tough as cowhide. If you pressed your finger on it, it would sink in a little, but you just couldn't get through.

"Zhaoyang, come here."

Qin Zhaoyang immediately squatted down and reached out to pick it up.

When his fingertips touched the light shield, there was no resistance. His fingers passed through it as if through a thin curtain of water. The light shield flickered slightly but remained intact.

Qin Zhaoyang was stunned. He turned to look at Chen Ye.

"Don't just stand there, take it out."

Chen Ye's voice came from behind.

Qin Zhaoyang reached into the light shield and took the book out.

The light shield shattered the moment the book left, turning into countless tiny specks of light that dissipated into the night, like fireflies scattered by the wind.

Qin Zhaoyang held the book in both hands, and a few words appeared on the cover.

"It really is a skill book! Brother Ye, it's a skill book!"

Qin Zhaoyang's voice rose half an octave, and his eyes widened.

Before he could finish speaking, he suddenly heard a soft footstep behind him.

"Who?"

Wang Shuo reacted the fastest, raising the fire axe and standing in front of Qin Zhaoyang.

Li Zheng also moved. He reached for the butcher knife at his waist, only to remember that the knife was still stuck in the lizard's head. He could only clench his fists to protect Qin Zhaoyang's other side.

Chen Ye turned around and saw a figure emerging from the mist.

The figure was very thin, wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and trousers rolled up to the knees.

The mist swirled behind him, like a curtain closing.

Chen Ye recognized him.

He's the boy who fought alongside Zhao Hai inside the barrier; he has the ability to become invisible.

The boy stopped about ten meters away from Chen Ye. His face was slightly pale, but he didn't have many injuries.

His gaze passed over Chen Ye and landed on the skill book in Qin Zhaoyang's hand. He paused for two seconds before looking away.

Don't misunderstand.

The boy raised his hands, palms facing outwards, and moved very slowly.

"My name is Lu Chen, from carriage number 8. My stamina is depleted, and my invisibility has automatically dissipated. I was hiding in the square to avoid monsters, and I didn't mean to steal your loot."

He spoke very sincerely when he said this.

Qin Zhaoyang had already stored the skill book in the system's storage space. With a flick of his hand, the book disappeared, as fast as magic.

Wang Shuo and Li Zheng remained in their fighting stance.

Chen Ye looked at Lu Chen and smiled, "Then you can leave now."

"Alright, then I won't bother you any longer."

Lu Chen sighed, slowly retreating until his body disappeared into the mist inch by inch.

A voice rang out from within the gray fog: "Damn it!"

One word encapsulates Lu Chen's frustration and helplessness.

After Lu Chen left, Wang Shuo put down the fire axe and let out a long sigh: "Damn, that guy's pretty cunning."

"He was also looking to pick up bargains; his stealth talent is really suited for this line of work."

Chen Ye felt incredibly fortunate that his entire team had made it down.

The reason Lu Chen didn't make a move was twofold: firstly, he genuinely didn't have much strength left, and secondly, Chen Ye and his group outnumbered him.

If it were just Qin Zhaoyang alone, then this sixth-born classmate with the ability to become invisible would definitely stab him in the back.

Just as everyone breathed a sigh of relief, another clear, cold female voice rang out.

"You should kill him. If he tells Jiang Ning that you took the book, you'll be in big trouble."

Gu Qinghuan emerged from the mist, her gaze falling on Chen Ye.

Wang Shuo and Li Zheng, who had just relaxed, became tense again.

Qin Zhaoyang shrank his neck and subconsciously took half a step behind Chen Ye.

Chen Ye looked at Gu Qinghuan, but neither spoke nor moved.

Gu Qinghuan waited for about two seconds, and seeing that he had no intention of speaking, she stopped looking at him and walked directly towards Qin Zhaoyang.

As Qin Zhaoyang watched her walk over, his Adam's apple bobbed, and a fine layer of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Gu Qinghuan walked up to Qin Zhaoyang and held out her hand: "Take out that book and let me see it."

Qin Zhaoyang looked at her outstretched hand, then at Chen Ye.

Chen Ye nodded slightly. If Gu Qinghuan really wanted to snatch their skill books, he would have no choice but to admit defeat. She was an even more terrifying existence than Jiang Ning.

Qin Zhaoyang flipped his hand, and the skill book reappeared in his hand.

He handed the book over.

Gu Qinghuan took the book, opened the cover, and a blue light screen popped up in front of her.

Her gaze lingered on the screen for about three seconds, then she closed the book and shook her head slightly.

"It really is a skill book, but unfortunately it's not a good match for my talents."

She handed the book back to Qin Zhaoyang.

Qin Zhaoyang took the skill book somewhat blankly, glanced down at the cover, then looked up at Gu Qinghuan. His lips moved as if he wanted to say something, but he didn't.

He thought the skill book was lost forever, but he didn't expect Gu Qinghuan to return it.

Gu Qinghuan didn't look at him again, turned around, and prepared to leave.

"Did you already know we were hiding in that building?"

Chen Ye's voice came from behind her.

Gu Qinghuan paused, turned her head, and looked at Chen Ye's face.

"Know."

She said only two words, then looked away and turned to walk into the mist.

The black tracksuit grew fainter and fainter in the gray-white mist, disappearing completely within a few breaths.

Wang Shuo only breathed a long sigh of relief after Gu Qinghuan's figure had completely disappeared: "Damn, there are so many of Lao Liu's! This one is even scarier than the last one. If she wanted to steal it, even if all of us were tied together, we wouldn't be enough to beat her."

"We were lucky. If this skill book had been a good match for his talent, she would never have given it back to us."

Chen Ye squatted down, reached out and pulled the three knives out of the lizard-headed monster's forehead, then wiped the dirt off the knives on the lizard-headed corpse.

Then he handed the butcher knife to Li Zheng and the dagger to Zhou Yating.

"Let's go, we can't stay here. If Jiang Ning can shake off the monster, she'll definitely come back. Let's go back to the old supermarket."

After Chen Ye finished speaking, he opened the system chat and sent a message to Zhao Hai, asking him to meet him at the supermarket. Then he walked quickly towards the outside of the square.

Qin Zhaoyang put the skill book back into his system storage space and jogged after him.

Wang Shuo and Li Zheng walked in the middle, holding a fire axe and a butcher knife in their hands.

Zhou Yating walked at the very back. After a few steps, she stopped and looked back at the square.

The lizard-headed corpse still lay there, its massive body resembling a silent rock in the night.

The ground around them was littered with traces of the dead: bloodstains, rags, and abandoned weapons, which were faintly visible in the mist.

She looked at it for about two seconds, then looked away and turned to follow the group.
