Death Train: SSS-level talent right from the start!

Chapter 26 [Corpse City] Group Hunt

Jiang Ning watched his retreating figure, a smile playing on her lips.

He quickly caught up and walked back to the crowd alongside Zhao Hai: "Zhao, no rush, let's discuss a feasible hunting plan first. Your talent is melee burst damage, and mine is all-attribute enhancement. If we work together..."

Zhao Hai didn't listen carefully to what he said next.

Zhao Hai's gaze swept across the crowd, lingering on their faces for a moment.

Some people were excitedly whispering to each other, some were nervously gripping their weapons, some were sitting by the roadside eating bread they had found in the supermarket, and some were operating something on the system panel.

Forty or fifty people, ranging from D-rank to S-rank, all wanted to get the kill and claim the reward.

The lizard-headed monster was currently squatting on the base of the monument in the city square, its scarlet vertical pupils gleaming coldly in the pale sunlight, completely unresponsive to the gathering at the mall entrance.

Zhao Hai withdrew his gaze and silently memorized the three conditions Chen Ye had mentioned.

If Jiang Ning doesn't make a move, he won't make a move either.

Keep an eye on Jiang Ning's location.

If things go wrong, retreat immediately.

at the same time.

On the rooftop of a twelve-story building on the south side of the central square.

Chen Ye stood on the edge of the rooftop, one hand holding the railing and the other holding the map he had found in the supermarket. His gaze swept across the square and landed on the crowd gathered at the entrance of the shopping mall across the street.

Looking down from here, those people look like ants.

Forty or fifty ants surrounded an ant named Jiang Ning.

"That guy talking to Hai Ge must be Jiang Ning, right?" Wang Shuo squatted on the edge of the rooftop, a fire axe at his feet, his hands on his knees, squinting at the other side. "It's too far away to see his expression. Do you think Hai Ge has fallen for Jiang Ning's trick?"

Li Zheng stood next to Wang Shuo, a butcher knife tucked into his waistband, his arms crossed over his chest: "Brother Hai isn't stupid, he won't be fooled by him."

"That's not necessarily true." Qin Zhaoyang leaned on the edge of the rooftop, his chin resting on the railing. "You two don't know Hai Ge, do you? Once he gets into it, he doesn't care about anything else. I watched one of his basketball games before. In the fourth quarter, they were down by 35 points, and the coach had given up and let him rest, but he refused to come down. In the end, they still lost the game, and he got cramps too."

"That's basketball. This is life or death, it's different."

"What's the difference? When you're high, they're all the same."

Chen Ye did not participate in their discussion.

He folded the map and stuffed it into his pocket, then took out the binoculars he had found in the supermarket. They weren't high-end; they were the kind of children's binoculars from the supermarket's toy section, with limited magnification, but enough to barely make out the outline of the person opposite him.

He held the binoculars up to his eyes and adjusted the focus.

Jiang Ning's silhouette became clearer in the shot.

He was about 1.8 meters tall, wearing a black T-shirt and dark gray pants. He had an ordinary appearance and was not easily recognizable in a crowd.

Zhao Hai stood next to him, his 1.95-meter height making him stand out like a lighthouse in the crowd; it was hard not to notice him.

Chen Ye put down his binoculars, turned around, and sat down against the concrete railing at the edge of the rooftop, his gaze falling on the lizard-headed monster in the center of the square.

Looking down from the twelfth floor, the monster's entire appearance was clearly visible, much clearer than when the fog was thick in the morning.

Its body length is estimated to be over 2.5 meters, and if the tail is included, it may be close to 3 meters.

Its entire body was covered in hard, grayish-black leather plates, and the gaps between the plates were filled with a dark red substance that looked like dried blood.

Its head does indeed resemble a lizard's, with its mouth protruding forward and two rows of teeth interlocking. The upper teeth are longer than the lower teeth, resembling two interlocking saw teeth.

The nostrils are two narrow slits, symmetrically distributed on both sides of the bridge of the nose, and the eyes are scarlet vertical pupils.

It is now squatting on the base of the monument, its body half-curled up, like a giant lizard sunbathing. This monster seems a bit lazy; even though there are more than forty people across the street ready to attack it, it remains unmoved.

Now that the thick fog has almost completely dissipated, there's no reason why this monster shouldn't see the forty-odd people across the street.

"Could this thing be the legendary lizardman? Those Americans said they'd seen lizardmen, and the descriptions they gave seem quite similar to this thing."

Qin Zhaoyang also leaned on the railing, looking down at the monster.

"Lizard people don't exist on Earth; they're just legends."

Zhou Yating's voice came from behind. She was standing in the center of the rooftop, not near the edge, holding the bottle of water she had found at the supermarket.

"However, this place may no longer be Earth, nor any place we know. The physical laws here may be the same as on Earth, but the life forms here... are not within our comprehension."

She paused, then lowered her voice: "We are in a completely unfamiliar world, and this is likely just the first stop."

A few seconds of silence fell over the rooftop as the group of people seemed lost in thought; they all longed to go home.

But can we go back? Nobody knows.

Chen Ye stood up, raised the binoculars again, and looked towards the mall entrance.

The crowd has already started to move.

Jiang Ning stood on the steps, speaking to the crowd.

He gestured with his hands, pointing to the monster in the center of the square and then to several streets around the square, as if he were setting up tactics.

Zhao Hai stood at the edge of the crowd, his arms crossed over his chest, not participating in Jiang Ning's tactical arrangements.

He had his head down, as if he were looking at the system panel.

Chen Ye's lips twitched slightly.

He opened the group chat and, sure enough, saw Zhao Hai's message.

[Zhao Hai: Jiang Ning wants to fight head-on. He'll lead the A-level main force to draw the monster's attention from the front, while the others will flank from both sides, allowing me to launch a surprise attack from behind while the monster is distracted.]

Chen Ye quickly replied.

[Chen Ye: Do you think it's feasible?]

[Zhao Hai: Feasible my foot. That monster's carapace looks incredibly hard; I'm not even sure if my fists could penetrate it. Besides, Jiang Ning told me to attack from behind, but I feel like he wants me to be a meat shield.]

[Chen Ye: So what do you plan to do?]

[Zhao Hai: It depends on the situation. If Jiang Ning and the others can't hold out, I'll retreat.]

Chen Ye looked at the message and tapped his thumb twice on the edge of the panel.

Zhao Hai was more clear-headed than he had imagined.

Perhaps it was the death of Zhang Xiaowei that spurred him on, or perhaps the silence he experienced during his time in the underground shelter made him realize something.

In short, this big guy who used to get angry at Li Jiahao's words on the train has now learned to wait, which is a good thing.

[Chen Ye: Be careful. We're on the south-facing rooftop with a great view. If anything happens, run south, we'll meet you.]

Zhao Hai: Understood.

Chen Ye closed the group chat and picked up the binoculars again.

The crowd at the mall entrance has begun to disperse.

Jiang Ning led the fifteen A-level students towards the square from the front, walking at a moderate pace.

The remaining people scattered sparsely on the streets around the square, some heading east and some west.

Zhao Hai did not go with anyone.

He walked alone at the very back of the group, keeping a distance from Jiang Ning's main force, neither getting too close nor too far away.

Like a lone wolf.
