Chapter 25 The Clark Family's Smuggling Routes
At 8 o'clock, Mr. Jess arrived on time, got out of his Lexus, and immediately noticed Chen An.
"Mr. Chen, we've had a lot more staff lately."
Hearing Jess's words, Chen An stepped forward and smiled, "Isn't having more people a good thing? My brothers are all very strong, so the work efficiency is higher, and you guys will have an easier time too."
Jess, puffing on his cigarette, smiled slightly. "I'm just curious, where did you get all these people?"
Upon hearing this, Chen An casually made up a reason, "It was all introduced by friends. I heard there were good jobs here, so I came."
"By the way, I came here this time to change the employment relationship, from the original hourly wage to piecework. My brothers have families to support, and $160 a day is not enough."
He explained the purpose of his visit: for ordinary people, hourly wages are definitely better than piecework because the wages are fixed, and even if efficiency is low, the amount of money is still the same.
Piece-rate work is different; your salary depends on how much you do in a day. The more capable you are, the more work you get. However, this is very suitable for suicide squads. The combined effect of the two attributes can make their efficiency several times higher than that of ordinary people, and they can earn more.
Jess's expression shifted. "Piecework? I need to think about that."
He knew the physique of people like Anton; if they were paid by piecework, they could earn far more than $160 a day, so he wasn't really keen on agreeing.
But these people on the other side were indeed very capable, and their efficiency had improved a lot during this period. Even the secretary-general praised him highly, which put him in a dilemma.
"Old man Jess, it's fine if we don't work by piece, let my brothers join the dock union and become full-time employees." Chen An then made his second request.
"No way." Jess refused outright, but after thinking for a moment, he finally compromised, "Fine, I can change your pay mode to piecework, but don't mention anything else."
First, the salaries of full-time employees are higher, and their benefits are far more valuable than this.
Secondly, he felt a sense of crisis. Chen An was able to continuously mobilize manpower and send people to work at the dock. If these people were to join the union, his position as foreman would probably be in jeopardy. He neither wanted to spend money nor wanted Chen An to be noticed by the union's higher-ups.
Upon hearing this, Chen An smiled and said, "Then thank you very much, Mr. Jess. I believe our cooperation will be very pleasant."
But in his heart, he was thinking about how to become a formal employee of the dock and join the union.
Everything he sees now is only temporary; joining the dockworkers' union is when he can truly make his mark.
But he could clearly sense that old man Jess didn't want his people to join the union, so he had to think of other ways. Perhaps he could meet with other dock foremen or core union members to discuss cooperation.
After talking with Jess for a while and agreeing on a price, he drove Emily back to the Graffiti Building.
Back in the living room, Carl stepped forward and handed over a wad of US dollars. "Boss, this is ten thousand dollars that Zhou Hao brought."
Upon hearing this, Chen An reached out and took it.
"When does the party that Creek is attending start?"
In response to Chen An's question, Carl replied, "Zhou Hao said it will be held in a hotel in Los Angeles in three days."
"Okay, then let's prepare for the operation."
Karl hesitated, and Chen An noticed his hesitation, saying, "What's the problem?"
"Boss, there's bound to be a gunfight sometime. Should we buy some body armor, grenades, and stuff?"
Chen An nodded in agreement. "That's true. Relying on a few beat-up pistols is indeed a bit risky, but aren't hand grenades a bit too conspicuous? What if the FBI investigates?"
Carl said, "Just make sure it's clean. As long as no innocent people are injured or killed, it will be hard to find out. We can just disguise it later."
Hearing what Karl said, Chen An thought it made sense. Since they were already prepared to take action, why bother with so much else? His sister's fate was still unknown.
"Then go contact Black Wolf and buy some bulletproof vests and grenades."
Karl chuckled and said, "Boss, can I buy another M250? I used to be a machine gunner in the army."
"Go to hell, Karl! That gun is expensive. I only have ten thousand dollars on me right now, and I'm afraid I can't even buy the parts!" Chen An didn't expect Karl to ask for such an exorbitant price, especially since he didn't have any money right now.
"Sure, Black Wolf offers that service, but I'm already on their blacklist. Only you, boss, can vouch for me. But I guarantee the operation will definitely help you catch Krieg!"
Seeing this, Chen An remained silent for a moment, then looked up at Karl and said, "How much can we borrow from Black Wolf? If we're going to borrow, let's borrow more."
"Boss, it needs to be assessed. I estimate we can borrow $10 at a time."
Hearing this, he nodded. "Then let's borrow $10 from Black Wolf and use it all to buy equipment, just to be on the safe side."
"Got it, boss. I'll contact Black Wolf right away." Karl picked up his phone excitedly, ready to make a call.
Just then, Hank also hurried over, his face clearly showing some anxiety.
"What's wrong?" Chen An asked.
Hank quickly spoke up, "Boss, I spent a day unlocking that secret program on the phone. It turns out to contain detailed information about a smuggling route and personnel list of the Creek family."
Upon hearing this, Chen An looked surprised and quickly stood up. "Quick! Take me to see him."
Carl paused, his hand still on the dialer, and looked over with equal curiosity.
The three then went to Hank's room, which he had transformed into an intelligence station, with wires and gadgets everywhere. Two computers were running simultaneously, displaying code that Chen An couldn't understand.
As Hank operated the system, countless pieces of information popped up. Even Chen An could understand that it recorded the time of the Creek family's smuggling transactions, some members, and even videos.
"It's unbelievable that Richard actually has something like this!" Karl said in shock.
"Boss, this thing is too important to the Creek family. They might have already started an investigation, and they might even know that Richard's disappearance will lead them to us."
Listening to Hank's words, Chen An asked, "Do you have a way to make it impossible for them to find us?"
Hank spoke up, "I've formatted the phone, and all the backups have been transferred to our computer. The other party shouldn't be able to locate it, but we don't know about offline."
Upon hearing this, Chen An looked at Karl and said, "It seems we need to be more careful lately."
Carl nodded in agreement. "I'll contact Black Wolf and tell him to handle it as soon as possible."
Chen An, on the other hand, returned home and sat down on the sofa.
........
at the same time.
Outside the Graffiti Building, Cameron, who was picking up trash, suddenly noticed two unfamiliar, suspicious-looking people.
The two men looked at Chen An's pickup truck again and again, and suddenly sensed something was wrong. They quickly and quietly entered the Graffiti Building to report to their boss.
