The family sat around in the yard and began weaving longline fishing rods.

Wu Gang was in charge of cutting the leader line, Chen Yang was in charge of tying the branch line to the main line, and Chen Xue and Wang Feng were in charge of tying the hook to the other end of the leader line.

Wu Sui was responsible for the final inspection and also fixed the buoy in the appropriate position.

Xiao Hu and Ya Ya were too anxious to help, so they paced around, sometimes pouring tea, sometimes fanning the group.

The only sound in the yard was the snip-snip of scissors.

Occasionally, someone would tie the wrong one, which would elicit good-natured laughter from everyone.

A gentle breeze carried the salty smell of the sea.

After more than two hours of tying, the entire kilometer-long main line was finally finished.

Five hundred fishhooks were neatly coiled in a large plastic basin, which looked quite spectacular.

"Ouch, my back." Wang Feng stood up and rubbed her back.

"This job looks simple, but it's really tiring after a while."

Chen Xue rubbed her sore fingers and looked at the basin full of fishhooks, feeling a great sense of accomplishment.

"Sui, what kind of bait should we use?"

Wu Sui moved the plastic basin to the corner of the wall.

"You can use live shrimp or squid pieces. They have a strong fishy smell, which big fish like the most."

"Let's pack up first. My brother and I are going out for a bit and will be back later tonight."

Wang Feng was squatting by the well washing the vegetables she was going to cook that evening when she heard this. She shook the water off her hands and turned to look at them.

"It's already past five o'clock, dinner is about to be served, what are you two doing?" Wang Feng's voice was loud, with a hint of confusion.

Wu Sui did not reply directly, but turned and went into the main room.

Not long after, he came out carrying a snakeskin bag.

As he moved around, a series of clanging metallic sounds emanated from inside.

"Go to town and ask someone about the boat," Wu Sui casually replied, handing the snakeskin bag to Wu Gang.

Wang Feng frowned and looked the snakeskin bag up and down.

"Ask about a boat? Where are you going to ask this so late at night?"

Wang Feng stood up and wiped her hands on her apron.

"What's in your bag? It's making a racket like a junk collector."

"Sister-in-law, don't worry about it, we know what we're doing."

Wu Sui didn't want to explain further; some things were hard to explain now, and it would only cause her family unnecessary worry.

Chen Yang, who was listening nearby, immediately perked up and put down his work to come over.

"Brother-in-law, are we going to town to see the new ship? Can I come along?"

"Adults should handle things properly; children should stay out of it."

Wu Sui reached out and pulled Chen Yang's head away.

"You help your sister and sister-in-law cook at home, and sweep the yard after you finish eating."

Chen Yang pursed his lips and reluctantly retreated.

On the way to town, Wu Gang finally couldn't hold back any longer.

"Second brother, you've been lying to your wife, but you should at least tell me the truth, right?"

"Where are we going? You're making me buy a cutting machine and bring a crowbar. Are you trying to get revenge on Cheng Kaixuan?"

Although he also wanted to sink Cheng Kaixuan's ship, he knew that if he were discovered, he would be in jail.

He was on tenterhooks when he went out to buy things in the morning.

Wu Sui hadn't said anything yet, but finally couldn't hold back any longer.

Wu Sui sat in the back, took out a cigarette case, lit one, and exhaled a puff of white smoke.

"Brother, go to the old compound of the Shanghai Affairs Bureau in town."

"What are you going there for?" Wu Gang was even more puzzled. "Didn't you buy that yard? Why do you have to go at night instead of during the day? And you even brought your equipment."

"There's a boat moored in that yard, a smuggling vessel seized by the coast guard." Wu Sui's voice was somewhat scattered by the wind.

"Tao and I went to see it. It's very well preserved, but Wang Hai said that the ship is eerie."

"What's wrong with me?" Wu Gang slowed down his pedaling and looked back.

"Wang Hai didn't say. When I asked, he only said it was a hot potato."

"But when I went to the bottom of the ship, I saw a piece of explosion-proof steel plate welded shut. I guessed that something was hidden inside."

Wu Sui briefly recounted what had happened yesterday.

Upon hearing this, Wu Gang nearly lost control of the handlebars and quickly applied the brakes.

"Smuggling boat? Explosion-proof steel plates?" Wu Gang parked his car on the side of the road and lowered his voice.

"Second brother, this is no laughing matter."

"If there are contraband items hidden inside, we'll be in big trouble if we touch them."

"Brother, it's okay, let's go take a look first." Wu Sui took a puff of his cigarette, his eyes glazed over.

"That yard is mine now, the boat is moored on my property, I need to find out what kind of mine it is."

"If there really is trouble... hehe, just don't worry about it for now, we'll definitely get this ship."

Wu Gang knew he wasn't very bright, and since his younger brother said it was alright, he, as the eldest brother, could only accompany him to check things out; he couldn't let his second brother take the risk alone.

"Okay, I'll listen to you, but we agree that if anything goes wrong, we'll leave immediately."

By the time we arrived in town, it was completely dark.

The two parked their bicycles at the entrance of an alleyway, one street away from the old Maritime Bureau compound.

Wu Sui, carrying a snakeskin bag, led Wu Gang along the base of the wall, feeling their way forward.

The main gate of the compound was locked, and the guardhouse was dark. Old Liu, the gatekeeper, had probably already gone home.

There's not much to steal from this dilapidated yard; Old Liu is just a figurehead.

"Climb over from the back." Wu Sui easily made his way around to the back wall of the courtyard.

He had observed this place before; the wall wasn't high, and there was an old banyan tree nearby that he could lean on.

Wu Gang threw the snakeskin bag over first, and it landed in the grass with a muffled thud.

He grabbed the top of the wall with both hands, pushed hard, and flipped over.

Wu Sui followed closely behind and jumped into the yard.

At the dock, the steel ship rested quietly on the water.

The sea breeze blew, and the ship's old ropes creaked and groaned.

"That one?" Wu Gang pointed ahead.

"Yes." Wu Sui took two flashlights out of the bag and handed one to Wu Gang.

"Brother, be careful when you go up there."

The two stepped onto the gangplank and silently went up to the deck.

Wu Sui led Wu Gang straight to the bottom deck.

Go down the narrow, steep iron staircase.

Looking at the equipment on the ship, Wu Gang couldn't help but admire it.

The ship looks a bit old on the outside, but the equipment inside is very well maintained.

The lower deck was spacious; when the beam of a flashlight swept across it, one could see a huge diesel engine and a variety of complex pipes.

Wu Suiping recalled the system radar in his mind, and the dark red light was still flashing in that position.

"Brother, this is it." Wu Sui stopped and shone his flashlight on a steel plate in the corner.

Wu Gang went closer to take a look and found that it was no different from other places.

It even looks like a single, solid steel plate.

He reached out and touched it, feeling it carefully, before he could detect the tiny gap.

"Is this an explosion-proof panel?"

Wu Gang has been dealing with boats for many years, and he can recognize them just by touching the texture.

"Who would be so bored as to weld this kind of thing in this dumpy hold?"
