Beachcombing: The beach is full of amazing seafood, but my wife won't let me get out of bed!
Chapter 67 The Abandoned Yard of the Maritime Bureau
When I left the Chen family.
Zhao Guihua carried large and small bags of things out.
Homegrown vegetables, old hens, ducks... and a big bag of fresh lychees that Chen Daqiang picked from the orchard early in the morning.
"Mom, you've taken too much. We can't finish it all," Wu Sui quickly stopped her.
"If we can't finish the food, we'll put it in the well to freeze. Those who work at sea do physically demanding jobs; they need to eat well to have the energy."
Ignoring the objections, Zhao Guihua stuffed everything into the snakeskin bag and then turned to glare at Chen Yang.
"Xiaoyang, when you get to your brother-in-law's house, be quick and efficient, and keep an eye out for things to do, understand?"
Chen Yang shrank back and nodded repeatedly: "Mom, I understand."
Wu Sui held Ya Ya in her arms and said goodbye to the elderly couple with a smile.
When they arrived in the county town, Wu Sui wanted to rent a car to go back, but Chen Xue wouldn't allow it.
The four of them could only take a minibus to Yunshui Town first.
It was already noon when they got off the bus, so Wu Sui and the others ate lunch in town first.
As they passed by a group of buildings, Chen Yang stopped Wu Sui.
"Brother-in-law, look over there."
Wu Sui looked in the direction he pointed.
It was a courtyard that occupied a considerable area.
The building is enclosed by red brick walls, and inside there are several rows of bungalows and a large warehouse.
Most importantly, this courtyard is located by the water.
One side of the courtyard is directly connected to a small, separate dock, where a boat is moored.
The street-facing side is a row of storefronts, but unfortunately none of them are open.
"The old warehouses and offices of the Maritime Safety Administration," Wu Sui explained casually.
"It seems they used to lease out storefronts, but they've been abandoned for the past two years."
"When Grandpa Wang's son came home last time, he said that he was now in charge of this yard and wanted to sell it to the public."
Wu Sui's heart skipped a beat.
Selling to external parties?
It has its own dock, warehouses, and storefronts...
These words quickly combined in his mind, piecing together a near-perfect blueprint.
He was worried that if the ship's catch became too large, it would arouse jealousy.
If we buy this yard, we can drive the boat directly into the warehouse and then take it to the purchasing station, so we won't have to worry about being targeted by others.
The original office area was demolished and rebuilt into a factory for the preliminary processing of seafood—it was perfect.
"Let's go take a look."
Wu Sui acted decisively and patted Chen Yang on the shoulder.
The group walked to the entrance of the courtyard.
The iron gate was locked, and next to it was a small gatehouse with an open window from which the sound of a radio could be heard.
Wu Sui walked over and knocked on the window.
A gaunt old man was lying in a rocking chair, resting with his eyes closed. Hearing the noise, he opened his eyes impatiently.
"What are you doing? You can't come in here." The old man waved his hand to shoo them away.
Wu Sui chuckled and took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. He smoked one for himself and handed the rest over.
"Grandpa, have a smoke."
The old man glanced at the red cigarette pack sideways, and his attitude softened considerably.
"Young man, what's up?"
"Sir, I heard the Maritime Bureau moved away, and this yard is for sale?"
The old man stuffed the cigarettes on the table into his pocket, his face crinkling with laughter.
"That's right, the last business moved out last month."
"Now this place is just me, an old man, watching over it; there's not even a ghost in sight."
"This yard is large and has a cold storage, but it's been around for a long time."
"The bureau wants to sell it, but what idiot could come up with so much money to buy a dilapidated yard all at once?"
There's a cold storage facility?!
This was a wonderful surprise.
"Sir, could you please contact the person in charge of this area? I'd like to speak with him in person."
The old man looked Wu Sui up and down.
He was dressed very plainly; he didn't look like a big boss who could afford such a large house.
But that pack of cigarettes was the real deal.
"Okay, I'll make a call and ask for you, but I can't guarantee they'll come."
The old man picked up the phone on the table and dialed a number.
"Hey, Section Chief Wang, this is Lao Liu."
"Yes, there's someone at the gate who says they want to see our yard."
"He seems quite sincere... Okay, okay, then I'll have him wait for you here."
After hanging up the phone, the old man nodded to Wu Sui.
"Just wait, Section Chief Wang is in town on business and will be here in a bit."
Wu Sui thanked them and led Chen Xue and the others to wait under the shade of a nearby tree.
"Wu Sui, why are you asking about this place?" Chen Xue finally couldn't help but ask, tugging at his sleeve.
"I want to take over this place," Wu Sui said bluntly.
Chen Yang, listening nearby, kept swallowing hard.
"Brother-in-law, this yard is so big, how much did it cost?"
Wu Sui pointed to the large iron gate in front of them and began to calculate their accounts.
"Xiaoxue, look."
"There's a dock here, so our big ships can come in directly to unload cargo, saving us so much trouble."
"There's a ready-made cold storage inside, so seafood won't spoil if you put it there."
"With a little tidying up, the storefront outside can be used directly as a recycling station."
"From now on, we can not only go beachcombing ourselves, but also collect goods from others..."
He didn't mention the seafood processing plant project, because it's not something he can handle right now.
It's not too late to tell the family after we've discussed it with Su Ruoxue.
Chen Xue was stunned.
The bead sold for three million, of which six hundred thousand was given to my elder brother to invest in buying a boat. He also paid a deposit of one hundred thousand, and now he still has more than two million.
We still have a lot of money, but we can't spend it like this.
"As long as you know it, that's fine." Chen Xue only said this one sentence after holding back for a long time.
Since her husband became a better person, she seems to spend money even more than before.
I waited for about twenty minutes.
A black Santana sedan stopped at the entrance of the compound.
The car door opened, and a man in his thirties stepped out.
He frowned and looked around, his gaze finally settling on Wu Sui and the others under the shade of the tree.
Before Wu Sui could even speak...
Chen Yang suddenly took a step forward and shouted.
"Brother Wang Hai?"
The man who had just walked over paused and turned to look at Chen Yang.
"Oh...it's Xiaoyang? Xiaoxue, what are you doing here?"
Wang Hai's gaze passed over Chen Yang and landed on Chen Xue, whereupon he greeted her with a smile.
Chen Xue nodded and called out to Brother Wang Hai.
Wang Hai nodded and then looked at Wu Sui.
"You must be Wu Sui? Haha... It's been so many years. I heard from my dad that you even gave him a bottle of Moutai."
Wu Sui nodded and extended his right hand: "Section Chief Wang, hello, I'm Wu Sui."
Wang Hai reached out and shook hands with Wu Sui, looking him up and down.
"Uncle Wang, you're too kind. I just visited my father-in-law's house yesterday and we chatted for a bit."
Wang Hai withdrew his hand, took out a box of Hongtashan cigarettes from his pocket, lit one for himself, and handed one to Wu Sui.
Wu Sui smiled and took the cigarette, then lit it for Wang Hai.
"Old Liu, the gatekeeper, said someone wants to sell the courtyard. Are you the one who wants to take a look?"
Wu Sui nodded: "Yes, I want to ask about the price. If it's reasonable, I'd like to buy it."
Wang Hai exhaled a smoke ring and shook his head.
"This place covers ten acres, with a small cold storage and five storefronts, as well as a separate dock at the back."
"The bureau has assessed the price, and the lowest price is 270 million. The cold storage equipment is still usable, so it's not cheap."
Chen Yang gasped.
270 million!
My goodness, how much money is that?
Chen Xue nervously tugged at Wu Sui's sleeve.
Wang Hai flicked his cigarette ash as he looked at Wu Sui's expression.
"Wu Sui, I heard from my dad that you just booked a boat. Can you afford the cost of this yard?"
Wu Sui did not answer immediately, but turned to look at the large iron gate.
270 million!
Buying such a large plot of land with a dock at this price in the year 2000 was definitely a steal.
Its future appreciation potential is immeasurable.
