The mesh bag contained two round cans of yellow peaches and a package of peach shortbread tied neatly with red paper string.

"Old Bai, how are you feeling?"

Lu Baizhou strode to the bedside, casually placing the net bag in his hand on the bedside table. His sharp, eagle-like black eyes looked Bai Zhengyuan up and down, his eyes filled with concern.

Bai Zhengyuan was overjoyed to see his good brother and patted his chest hard, making a dull "thump, thump" sound.

"Much better! Old Lu, look at me, I'm as energetic as ever! It's just that the doctor was too conservative, insisting that I rest this leg for a few days and not put any weight on it. Nothing else is seriously wrong, don't you know my body? It's very strong!"

Zhou Liguang also walked over, looked down at the neatly wrapped white bandages on Bai Zhengyuan's leg, and said in a gentle tone:

"Last night the doctor said you damaged a major blood vessel, and the situation was quite dangerous. We were both on tenterhooks outside. Seeing how energetic you are today, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief."

"Hey, it's nothing, just a superficial wound. Once it scabs over in a few days, I'll be back in the army leading training!"

Bai Zhengyuan waved his hand casually, then his playful smile vanished, replaced by a very serious expression. He looked at Lu Baizhou and said sincerely:

"Old Lu, you really had a hard time last night. The journey was long and arduous, and you carried me all the way down from the deep mountains and forests, and then took me to the hospital in a jeep."

Upon hearing this, Lu Baizhou's handsome eyebrows twitched slightly. He shook his head, his voice deep and magnetic:

"Why are you being so polite with me? Besides, it's all thanks to your sister that I was able to save you. She prepared the medicine and she personally applied it."

As he spoke, his deep, dark eyes unconsciously slanted to the side.

Qiao Xinxin was standing somewhat awkwardly by the window. When she heard Lu Baizhou mention her in front of Bai Zhengyuan, her heart skipped a beat for no reason, and she subconsciously turned her head slightly.

Their gazes met instantly, separated by half a hospital room.

Lu Baizhou's eyes held a subtle tenderness and restraint, while Qiao Xinxin blushed slightly, looking like a startled little rabbit, and quickly looked away, pretending to look at the bare branches outside the window.

Bai Zhengyuan, a rough-around-the-edges man, was completely unaware of the subtle atmosphere between the two.

He was still there, chuckling to himself, "Anyway, I owe you a huge favor this time. When I get out of the hospital, I'll definitely treat you to two bottles of good wine—we won't leave until we're completely drunk!"

Zhou Liguang stood to the side for a moment, his gaze lingering on Qiao Xinxin, a hint of tenderness in his eyes. Then, he turned to Bai Zhengyuan and said:

"We'll talk about drinking later when you're better. Just stay in the hospital for the next few days. Don't worry about the training in the army. Lao Lu and I will keep an eye on things for you. Nothing will go wrong."

"Haha, with the two of you here, I feel completely at ease!" Bai Zhengyuan chuckled, leaning back on the pillow, looking incredibly relaxed.

Qiao Xinxin quietly raised her wrist and glanced at her watch; the hands were almost pointing to 5:30.

She was startled, realizing how quickly time had passed. She still had a shift at the bathhouse that evening and couldn't afford to waste any more time.

So she stepped forward and said softly:

"Brother, it's getting late, I need to hurry to the bathhouse."

Upon hearing this, Bai Zhengyuan quickly nodded and urged, "Alright, alright, go ahead, work is important, don't be late. Old Lu and Old Zhou are here to keep me company and keep me entertained, nothing will happen."

When Lu Baizhou heard that Qiao Xinxin was leaving, he turned around and gave her a deep look.

A barely perceptible hint of worry flickered across his usually cold and serious face. He moved his thin lips, as if he had much to say, but with Zhou Liguang and Bai Zhengyuan present, he ultimately only restrained himself and whispered a word of advice: "Be careful on the road."

"Yes, I know, Brother Lu." Qiao Xinxin replied obediently, feeling a strange sweetness in her heart.

As she picked up the thick cotton-padded coat draped over the back of the chair and put it on, she turned to Zhou Liguang and Lu Baizhou and said politely, "Brother Lu, Brother Zhou, then I'll trouble you to stay here with my brother for a while. My parents will come over after they close the shop, and you can go back to the army after they arrive."

Zhou Liguang smiled gently and nodded in agreement, "Don't worry, Xinxin, we'll stay here and watch over you. Don't rush on your way, walk slowly."

"it is good."

Qiao Xinxin walked to the ward door, her hand just touching the doorknob, then she turned back, a little worried. Her bright almond-shaped eyes glared fiercely at Bai Zhengyuan, and she warned him in a cute but menacing way:

"Brother! This is my last warning, stay in bed and don't move! The doctor said you can't get out of bed, and that means you can't. If you dare to sneak out of bed, I'll never speak to you again!"

"Oh, I know, I know! My dear sister, go ahead and do it, I promise I won't move an inch!" Bai Zhengyuan waved his hands repeatedly, somewhat amused and exasperated.

Only then did Qiao Xinxin feel relieved enough to open the door and go out.

With a "click," the ward door closed.

Her light, quick footsteps faded into the quiet, empty corridor, and soon they were completely gone.

The ward fell silent.

Bai Zhengyuan leaned back against the headboard, feeling utterly exhausted. He looked at Lu Baizhou and Zhou Liguang still standing in the ward, and couldn't help but grin, revealing a set of bright white teeth.

"Hey you two, what brings you both here today? Did you plan this out at the door to make a fool of me?"

Lu Baizhou pulled over a wooden chair by the window and sat down. He didn't reply immediately, but his deep eyes were slightly lowered, as if he were thinking about something.

Zhou Liguang, however, chuckled gently and continued the conversation:

"We bumped into each other at the training field and came here together. Lao Bai, your injury is really serious this time. Lao Lu and I were on tenterhooks outside last night. But to be honest, the person we should thank the most today is your sister. If it weren't for Xin Xin bringing over the bottle of medicine she made herself last night, Lao Lu would probably still be pacing anxiously in the corridor outside the operating room."

Hearing his comrade praise his younger sister, Bai Zhengyuan's smile deepened, his chest puffed out, and he couldn't hide his pride.

"That's right! Don't you know whose sister she is! My sister has been smart since she was little. She really snatched my life back from the jaws of death!"
