Warden of the Beast World: Everyone is a Hakimi
Chapter 4 What a handsome big dog!
Ye Tang held up the half-eaten meat skewer in her hand, staring blankly at the uninvited guest in front of her.
Its silvery-gray fur gleamed with a faint, cold light under the moonlight, and it was more than twice the size of any canine she had ever seen on Earth.
Her shoulders were almost up to her waist, her four legs were long and powerful, her claws were dug into the soil, and the tips of each claw gleamed with a cold, blade-like light.
It stood there, its gray-blue eyes half-closed, a bag of rabbit meat clenched in its mouth. Its movements were ridiculously fast, but its eating manners weren't too rude—at least it didn't swallow the leaves along with the meat.
Ye Tang blinked, then blinked again.
It swallowed most of the rabbit in a few bites, even chewing the bones with its sharp wolf teeth.
After finishing its meal, it licked its lips, let out a couple of breaths with its tongue lolling out, and a fleeting look of satisfaction flashed in its gray-blue eyes.
That expression—well, Ye Tang felt it wasn't exactly the same as the expression of someone who was both spicy and wanted to eat, but rather exactly the same.
"You little glutton," Ye Tang couldn't help but laugh, "have you been starving for days?"
Ghost Hunter's ears twitched. When the pair of wolf ears standing upright on its head received the word "dog," they reflexively tucked back slightly.
dog?
He, the Ghost Hunter, a pure-blooded Azure Wolf, an S-rank combatant, and a Major General of the Empire. Called a dog?
But the taste of the meat still lingering on his tongue left him speechless. And—he suddenly realized something.
From the moment I swallowed the first bite of meat until now, only a few dozen seconds have passed, and the sharp pain in my mental domain has actually lessened somewhat.
It wasn't an illusion; it was a real relief. He closed his eyes and looked inward; his breakdown level had dropped from 84 to 83.
Just one bite of meat.
Youlie's eyes widened suddenly, his pupils filled with disbelief. He had undergone countless tests at the military medical center in the North, used the Empire's most expensive medicines, and received treatment with the most advanced mental energy therapy equipment. The best result he had ever received was only a temporary suppression, with his values remaining completely unchanged.
The rabbit meat that this little female casually roasted actually made his breakdown level drop by a whole point.
He stood there looking at Ye Tang, a deep scrutiny flashing in his gray-blue wolf eyes.
Who is this female? What exactly is that powder she sprinkled on the meat?
He could clearly sense the fluctuations in her mental energy—weak, extremely weak, so weak as to be almost negligible, barely even reaching the lowest F-rank. Such a level of mental energy would trigger a glaring red light on any family's testing equipment; it was universally recognized as "worthless" throughout the empire.
But the meat she grilled was more effective than the empire's most advanced mental therapy equipment. That doesn't make sense.
Ye Tang was completely unaware of the turbulent emotions churning within the "big dog" in front of her. Her attention was entirely focused on something else—how handsome! This dog was just too handsome.
It is twice the size of an Alaskan Malamute on Earth, with thick, dense, silver-gray fur that gleams with a faint silver light under the moonlight; it must feel very soft to the touch.
Its grey-blue eyes shone like two bright gems in the firelight, its erect ears twitched occasionally, and its bushy tail hung down behind it with the tip slightly upturned, giving it a look that was both alert and curious.
Ye Tang's heart melted.
When she was on Earth, she had two hobbies: researching various cuisines and petting furry creatures.
Every weekend, unless she works overtime, she always goes to cat and dog cafes. She has membership cards for every shop within a five-kilometer radius.
But all the dogs on Earth combined don't even come close to being one-tenth as handsome as this giant dog. The beauty of its wildness and power, perfectly combined, is something domesticated pets can never possess.
Ye Tang put down the meat skewers in her hand, her eyes shining as she looked at the silver-gray giant wolf in front of her. Her voice unconsciously softened by eight octaves, carrying a sweet, coaxing tone: "Little puppy, do you want more?"
She waved the raw meat skewers in her hand, which weren't fully cooked yet.
Youlie's gaze lingered on the raw meat skewers for a second, his expression blank. He had been eating raw meat for twenty years and had no interest in it whatsoever.
His gaze returned to the bottles and jars beside the fire—those colorful little bottles were what the female had sprinkled on the meat.
When he arrived, he saw her sprinkle the powder on it, and then the aroma that made his soul tremble exploded.
Seeing that he wasn't looking at the raw meat but instead staring at her condiment bottle, Ye Tang became even more excited.
She put the meat skewers aside, squatted down, looked the giant wolf in the eye, and slowly and tentatively extended her right hand, palm up, in an inviting gesture.
"Doggy, come here," her eyes sparkled with pure kindness and barely suppressed excitement. "Come here and let me pet you, and I'll grill some meat for you. Don't worry, I won't hurt you. I'm really good at it; all the golden retrievers at the cat cafe love me."
Ghost Hunter silently gazed at the small female before him. When she said she wouldn't hurt him, her tone carried a matter-of-fact sincerity, as if she didn't find the whole thing absurd at all.
Youlie almost laughed—he was an S-class orc with muscles that could tear steel apart, while she was a weak female with almost non-existent mental strength. What could she possibly use to hurt him? That stick stuck in the mud next to him? That thing couldn't even break a single hair on his head.
That should be the case in theory.
But the body reacted before the mind.
His four legs involuntarily took a step forward. Then another. He told himself it was to figure out what the powder was, to confirm whether the changes in the collapse value were accidental, and for the sake of the Empire's military research.
But deep down, a tiny voice was saying—her eyes are so beautiful.
Those eyes were bright and sparkling, with beautiful dark brown pupils, like two wild chestnuts just picked from a tree.
There was no calculation, no valuation, and no regard for him as a title, a combat power, or a bargaining chip for a family marriage alliance in her eyes.
The way she looked at him was as if she had seen something that brought her genuine joy, pure and innocent, filled only with simple liking.
This feeling was so unfamiliar that Youlie was momentarily at a loss for how to react.
Before he could react, he was already standing in front of Ye Tang. The giant wolf's figure blocked most of the fire, and its shadow enveloped her entirely.
Ye Tang's eyes instantly lit up like two stars.
She reached out and carefully placed her hand on the giant wolf's foreleg. The moment her fingertips touched the fur, she trembled—not from fear, but from the sheer comfort.
The silver-gray outer layer of fur is rather stiff, with a rough feel from being exposed to the wind and sun, but the underfur is incredibly soft, thick and dense, and when you insert your fingers into it, it feels like burying yourself in a warm cloud.
Beneath the fur are strong, taut muscles that feel warm and powerful to the touch, and you can clearly feel the heat of the blood rushing under the skin.
"So cute..." Ye Tang's voice was ethereal. She went from touching it with one hand to using both hands, moving up along the front leg to the shoulder blade, and then around to the side of the neck.
The giant wolf was so large that she needed both hands to barely wrap her arms around its neck. She buried her face in its thick fur and took a deep breath.
It smells like a mixture of forest, moonlight, and cold wind—clean and wild.
"Such soft fur... What do you usually use to wash it? It's even smoother than the golden retriever I pet at the cat cafe!"
The hunter stood frozen in place.
Every muscle in his body tensed. It wasn't nervousness, but a completely unfamiliar and indescribable feeling.
A female hand roamed over his body, her fingertips digging into his fur and tracing along his skin. The movements were not gentle, even bordering on audacious, but he didn't seem to mind at all.
Those hands had a slightly cool body temperature, and the nails were neatly trimmed. The touch was light and dense, as if a warm breeze had passed through his skin and blown directly into his bones.
He lowered his eyelids and watched her bury her entire face in his neck hair, the small part of her ear tip sticking out was red.
Her fingers slowly circled in the fur on his shoulder blades, and she kept saying things like, "So soft, so handsome, it feels so good," which he couldn't quite understand.
The hunter's tail swayed slightly, almost uncontrollably.
He quickly tucked his tail in, adopting a cold and dignified posture, his chin slightly raised, his gray-blue eyes half-closed, trying his best not to look like a big dog that had been petted comfortably.
But his ears betrayed him—his erect wolf ears twitched twice as Ye Tang's fingers brushed against his earlobes, then uncontrollably curled back into a pathetic arc.
"Your ears moved!" Ye Tang exclaimed in surprise, lifting her head from her neck hair, her eyes sparkling as she stared at the fluffy ears. "They're so cute! Can I touch them?"
She didn't wait for his answer, nor did she expect a dog to answer her; her hand had already reached out to touch him.
The wolf ears felt completely different from what she had imagined. The outer layer was covered with a short, dense layer of downy hair, which was finer and softer than the fur on her body. The earlobes were thin and flexible, and she could clearly feel the outline of the cartilage with her fingertips.
Her thumb gently rubbed the tips of the ears, and the ears immediately reflexively retracted, trembled three times, and then slowly and hesitantly stood up again.
