Quick Transmigration: The Control Group in Sweet Novels

Chapter 51: The Control Group in the Unrequited Love Novel

When Qi Yang picked up her phone again, it was already half an hour later.

She opened it and saw Chen Zuo's last message: I'm waiting for you downstairs.

Qi Yang was surprised and got up. She ran to the window and saw the familiar figure in the snow.

She turned and left the room, still wearing her fluffy slippers. She grabbed the down jacket by the door, wrapped it around herself, changed her shoes, and called out to the living room, "Mom and Dad, I'm going downstairs to buy something." The door was already closed behind her.

Qi Yang pushed open the unit door, and a cold wind instantly rushed into her neck. She shrank back and looked up to see Chen Zuo standing under the streetlight.

He was wearing a gray down jacket and standing under the dim streetlight looking at his phone. Hearing the noise, he looked up and his gaze fell on her, and his whole expression seemed to relax.

Qi Yang jogged up to him, slightly out of breath, "Why did you actually come all this way?"

Chen Zuo hadn't seen her for a long time.

Upon seeing her, Chen Zuo silently observed her closely for a while. She was wearing pink loungewear underneath a white down jacket, which made her look fair and soft.

Before Qi Yang could say anything more, someone grabbed his arm and said, "It's cold here, let's go somewhere else."

Before Qi Yang could even process what was happening, she was being led away. She was running so fast that she hadn't even zipped up her clothes. Chen Zuo took a couple of steps and then stopped, reaching out to zip up the top of her clothes for her.

The convenience store at the entrance of the residential area was open. The two people pushed open the door and went in, and were greeted by a wave of warmth from the radiator.

Chen Zuo walked straight to the shelf, took a bottle of hot milk, and scanned the code to pay.

They then sat down by the window.

After Chen Zuo unscrewed the bottle cap, he handed it to her. When the warm bottle touched her palm, Qi Yang subconsciously clenched it, and her icy fingers gradually warmed up.

Qi Yang looked up at his profile. "You thought I came over because I was angry?"

She murmured an explanation, "I was just doing my homework, and my phone was on silent, so I didn't see it."

As she spoke, she felt a little embarrassed, realizing that she had made him come all this way for a misunderstanding.

Chen Zuo hummed in agreement, "I know."

Qi Yang blinked. "You knew?"

Chen Zuo pondered this on the way, but he still understood Qi Yang. He knew that she didn't mind these things. On the contrary, it was he who was trying every means to find an excuse to see her.

When he saw this person, his restless heart inexplicably calmed down.

These past few days, all this back and forth across the screen, can't compare to having someone right in front of you now.

He decided to cut to the chase. The boy sat opposite him. He hadn't seen him for a while, and his hair was shorter, making him look neater and more presentable. In the warm room, his eyes revealed his undisguised concern. "Yangyang."

Qi Yang paused and looked at him.

Hearing him admit, "I just missed you."

Qi Yang held the cup of hot milk, her palms pressed against the warm bottle. Her heart felt as if something soft had bumped into it, and her heartbeat became erratic. "...I'm sorry, I've been too busy lately and haven't had time for you."

"Let's not talk about that. I just want to know," Chen Zuo stared intently at her, "What about you?"

Qi Yang's ears suddenly burned. For some reason, she felt that Chen Zuo was very oppressive today. Being stared at by the boy's dark eyes, the warm, booming sound in her ears seemed to disappear.

She paused for a few seconds before nodding, and said in a barely audible voice, "Yes."

Chen Zuo's expression visibly relaxed, and the corners of his mouth curved into a smile. "That's enough."

Qi Yang's face burned even hotter at his behavior.

How come Chen Zuo has become even more straightforward after only a few days apart?

She lowered her head and took a big gulp of milk, but choked a little because she drank it too fast, and coughed twice when she turned her head away.

Chen Zuo quickly sat up straight and patted her back. After a few pats, Qi Yang gradually stopped coughing, pulled Chen Zuo's hand away, and said somewhat embarrassedly, "It's okay."

He withdrew his hand and saw her reddened eyes, her eyes were wet, which made Chen Zuo's heart soften.

It turns out that people really can be this content.

Just sitting here and looking at her is enough to make me feel so content.

Chen Zuo sat with Qi Yang for a while. Not long after, Qi Yang received a text message from her mother. Her mother knew that she had gone downstairs to buy something, but half an hour had already passed. It had been snowing for the past few days, and Qi Yang's worried mother quickly sent a message to inquire.

Qi Yang replied to the message, then looked at Chen Zuo with a troubled expression, "I might have to go back."

When Chen Zuo came, he was even prepared not to see him. Now that he could stay for a while, he had long since forgotten the disappointment of the past few days.

He nodded. "I'll take you back."

When the two came out of the convenience store, the thin layer of snow on the road had been compacted by footsteps, making it a bit slippery. Qi Yang looked down at the road under her feet and took careful steps.

Chen Zuo walked beside her, his pace slowing down a bit.

His hand also fell to his side. He wanted to take her hand, but he was afraid of offending her, so they remained in a stalemate.

After taking a few steps, Chen Zuo felt a warmth in his palm.

He paused for a moment, then looked over and saw the girl's small hand slip into his palm.

Qi Yang was a little embarrassed, but she still mustered up her courage and said, "Why don't you hold my hand? I'm afraid I'll fall."

"...Okay," Chen Zuo replied in a hoarse voice.

He returned the grip, squeezing her hand tightly.

The two walked in silence for a while, their hearts pounding. When they reached the lamp they had just seen, Qi Yang stopped. "I'll leave you here. The path inside is slippery, don't go in."

"Okay." Chen Zuo, still somewhat dazed, subconsciously said, "Then you can go in."

Qi Yang hummed in response, but remained standing still, and Chen Zuo did not leave either.

The two were still holding hands, neither of them letting go first.

Under the streetlight, the two stood facing each other. Qi Yang looked down at the hand that was holding hers. His hand was larger, with distinct knuckles, and there were calluses on the web of his right ring finger from writing.

Qi Yang thought Chen Zuo was good-looking in every way.

Her thumb unconsciously brushed lightly against the back of his hand.

Chen Zuo froze, the muscles in his entire arm tensing for a moment. The tips of his ears turned red, whether from the cold or embarrassment, and he unconsciously tightened his grip on her hand.

Qi Yang's voice was a little hoarse. "I should go back now."

"Um."

"Then you can leave."

"Um."

Both of them said they wanted to leave, but their legs wouldn't move. Qi Yang heard his voice and couldn't help but look up, "Why are you just humming?"

"Let's wait a little longer," Chen Zuo suddenly said in a low voice, "just a little while."

His voice carried an inexplicable hint of eagerness. Qi Yang stopped moving and stood in front of him, letting him hold her hand, their warmth mingling.

Qi Yang's eyelashes fluttered. "Are you busy tomorrow?"

Chen Zuo: "No, what's wrong?"

"If you're free tomorrow, I can come over and do the test together. I happen to have a few answer sheets."

"..." Chen Zuo calmed down, thought for a moment, and said, "Sure, you can come to my house."

Where are your parents?

"Very busy."

Qi Yang thought for a moment, "Okay, then I'll come see you tomorrow afternoon?"

Chen Zuo agreed in a good mood: "Okay."
