Mystery: When the Lost Homelanders Meet the Lost Homeland Call

Chapter 14 Meeting an Old Friend in a Foreign Land, Double the Fun

For a fleeting moment, Klein thought he had traveled back in time, but the elegant gas lamp surrounded by brass grilles and the silver-inlaid tin can that Old Neil used to hold hand-ground coffee brought him back to reality.

Was Emperor Roselle, this time-traveling predecessor, really a fellow countryman?

He recorded secrets using simplified Chinese, a language that doesn't exist in this world?

With an indescribable feeling of "meeting an old friend in a foreign land," Klein quickly browsed through the three pages of manuscript in his hands.

Russell had a habit of keeping a diary, and these manuscripts are his diary, but they are called notes because the locals could not understand them.

Because it was a copy, the size of each character was greatly enlarged due to the complexity of Chinese characters. Therefore, there was not much content on each page, and even the back was blank for preservation and research. Even so, Klein was still very excited when he read it.

These three notebooks record Roselle's discovery of a poor fellow lost in the depths of darkness, the exploration of the Forsaken Lands, and most importantly, a key description of potions.

The process of digesting and acting out the role gave him a sense of ecstasy, as if he had found a "solution" and grasped a priceless secret.

"Perhaps this will be my guiding light on the path to becoming an extraordinary person!"

"Hmm, the three pages of the manuscript are diaries from different periods. It can be seen that Emperor Roselle had a habit of only writing down which year it belonged to at the beginning of the year. We can't determine which year the pages from November and September belong to for the time being..."

After eagerly examining the three sheets in his hand, Klein immediately turned his gaze to the Asian-looking man next to Old Neil, or more precisely, to the yellowed paper in his hand.

The man with the Asian face also looked up at him, his eyes as dark as the ocean. Klein's intuition kicked in, and he instinctively felt a strange sense of familiarity with the person in front of him.

Just as Klein was rummaging through his memories, old Neil across from him spoke up: "Klein?"

Klein suddenly realized what was happening and quickly covered up his laughter:

"This gentleman is like a spirit in some ancient religious paintings; I was a little too curious for a moment."

In the original owner Klein's memories, Zhou Mingrui also learned about the mythology of this world, and there were also paintings of elves in some of the older religious texts.

The faces of those elves were of an Eastern style.

Of course, Klein didn't care too much about this. After all, the people of the North and South continents still looked Western. If you're going to travel to another world, you might as well grow up to be an Easterner.

The original owner naturally regarded the records of elves, giants, and dragons as myths, but now Klein would not treat the extraordinary as fantasy.

After flipping through the three pages of manuscript in his hand and making sure he hadn't missed anything, Klein handed them back.

"What a young man!" Old Neil chuckled and nodded, taking the manuscript. "Oh, by the way, I haven't introduced this gentleman to you yet."

Old Neil stepped aside: "This is Mr. Lynn, a stranger who has many insights into Russell's notes."

He then turned to Lynn, who also stood up: "This is Klein Moretti, an ordinary person caught up in the supernatural events, and also the Night Watch's new civilian staff member."

A stranger, huh? So he really is an elf? Thinking this, Klein smiled knowingly. Makes sense; it's perfectly reasonable for an elf to be in a church in another world.

I wonder if this person is some kind of ancient monster?

Mr. Neil just mentioned that he has done in-depth research on Russell's notes...

With images of church sages and magical monsters swirling in his mind, Klein extended his hand: "Hello, Mr. Lynn. Just call me Klein."

"It's not easy to infiltrate the Night Watchers' basement," Lynn said, extending his hand to shake Klein's in a friendly manner, trying to speak in Chinese. "Just call me Lynn. I've finally found you."

"It really wasn't easy, Mr. Lynn." Klein reminisced about what Russell had just said, casually agreeing before abruptly pulling his hand back and glaring at the person in front of him.

Sneak into the night watchman's underground area?

Can Lu Enwen be arranged and combined in this way?

Klein immediately felt a chill run down his spine, and several guesses flashed through his mind: Had Antigonus's Notebook attracted people? Had the transmigrator's secret been discovered? Or was there something about the gray fog that was actually attracting people?

His mind was racing, but his body moved swiftly, darting out like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, heading straight for the door.

As he ran, he shouted, "Captain Dunn! Someone has infiltrated the area!"

In the blink of an eye, Klein had already run to the door, only to be horrified to find that the door, which had been half-open, was now tightly shut.

"Hey, no, don't run away!" Lynn quickly went around the table and chased after them. "This place has been sealed off with ritual magic, no one can hear us."

Oh no, I've fallen into a trap.

Klein was thinking nervously. He couldn't just sit and wait to die. No matter what the person in front of him was after, he was probably not just after him personally. Maybe if he pretended to be ignorant enough, he would have a chance to survive.

Klein clutched his hat, slid against the door to the floor, and struggled, screaming in "terror," "Help! Help!"

"Don't worry, I don't intend to kill you," Lynn quickly tried to reassure him. "I just want to create a suitable environment for conversation."

Every villain says that, you know? Klein felt helpless inside, but on the surface, he shouted in feigned terror, "I don't know anything!"

As he shouted, Klein glanced at old Neil beside him.

Have you betrayed us too, Mr. Neil?

Old Neil glanced at Klein, then at Lynn, before looking away and taking a sip of water from the glass on the table.

The logic of great beings doesn't need much understanding; this scene is clearly a test for Klein, and he has no right to interfere.

Lynn stared at Klein's performance, and then realized something.

He turned back and gestured for Old Neil to leave for the time being, and Old Neil, quite astutely, left. Then he turned to Klein:

"Wasn't what I just said in Chinese?"

There is no Chinese word in the Rune language, so Lynn finally managed to pronounce it.

Lynn felt a sense of unfamiliarity as she listened to her own words.

It's been too long, and I've been away from home for far too long.

Klein paused, stopped calling for help, and hesitantly said in Chinese:

"Odd changes, even remains the same?"

"The sign indicates the quadrant," Lynn replied in Chinese.

"Imperial Jade Liquor?"

"One hundred and eighty cups."

"Have you not seen the Yellow River's waters come from the sky?"

"The river flows to the sea, never to return!"

"Like rain after a long drought," Klein's voice trembled as he struggled to his feet.

"Meeting an old friend in a foreign land!" Lynn opened his arms wide.

"Fellow countryman!" Klein excitedly hugged Lynn.
