Chapter 99 Geralt's Departure and Ron's Return

Roche stood up from his chair, leaned forward slightly, placed his hands on the edge of the table, and turned his gaze to the Witcher beside him.

"Geralt, there's one more thing I need your help with. One of our important members went out of town to meet with an informant and hasn't returned yet. His intelligence is crucial; it involves a list of opposition figures who are dissatisfied with Radovid, and these are all allies we can win over."

There was also his secret contact with Nilfgaard. Of course, this part is useless now, but the list must not fall into Radovid's hands; we must find him.

Roche paused, looking at Geralt, "You're the best at tracking, no one else can do this."

Geralt raised an eyebrow, arms crossed. "You're best at tracking, huh? Okay, are there any other clues, like where was the last time you saw him?"

Dix shifted in the chair, the back of which groaned under the weight.

"He disguised himself as a wandering shoemaker and went out. First, he had to cross the Pontal River, which should have been past the Redanian outposts. There are our people there who should know something. He called himself Greg."

"You actually intend to send a Redanian soldier to assassinate your own king?" Geralt's tone was filled with undisguised surprise.

Dicoscher sighed and lowered his head, spreading his hands out.

"Hey, do you see? Even some people in Redania are starting to disapprove of what Radovid is doing. If even ordinary soldiers feel that something is wrong, then it's time for us to take action."

Geralt paused for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, I'll go talk to Greg."

"Thank you, Geralt," Roche lowered his voice, "If possible—please try not to attract too much attention."

""

Geralt shrugged, a familiar hint of helplessness on his lips. "I know, I'll try my best not to mess things up."

Ron turned to Dixcher, "How's the intelligence on Margarita and the Aretusa sorcerers? I'm planning to make a trip to Cowburg on my way back to the territory to rescue them, just as an appetizer for Radovid."

Dicoscher reached into his pocket and pulled out a blueprint, pointing his finger at the dotted line drawn along the edge of the blueprint.

"This is it, the witch hunter prison in Cowburg. The defenses around it are extremely tight, but I've heard that there's a secret passage beneath this prison."

This city is built on the ruins of an elven city, and there are many passages left by the elves. If you don't plan to storm the prison, you can go this way. No... I urge you not to storm it. I know you have the ability, but we shouldn't be too conspicuous before the plan is executed.

"Dikoscher, I don't know what kind of image I have in your mind." Ron's tone was somewhat playful, "But you may have some misunderstanding about me. I'm not some war maniac. It would be better if I could save my energy."

Dicoscher clasped his hands together in front of his chest, nodding repeatedly with a broad smile. "That's good, that's good."

Ron and Geralt stood on the second-floor terrace of the Kingfisher Inn, watching the bustling streets below. Merchants drove their wagons laden with goods, making a creaking sound as they rolled across the pavement, while several city guards in red cloaks checked a traveling merchant's pass.

The bell tower on the distant temple island struck three times, its flame emblem gleaming coldly. The cries of seagulls echoed from the direction of the distant harbor, drifting over the city.

"Geralt, what's your plan next?" Ron leaned on the railing, his gaze sweeping across the bustling street.

"First, find the informant who's in contact with us. It's not far from the checkpoint on the Pontal River; it won't take long."

Geralt leaned against a pillar on the terrace.

"I'll be heading to Skellige after that. I think Yennefer should be there by now. Ron, how long do you think it will take Dixter to prepare?"

Ron pondered for a moment. "Nifergard will launch a general offensive or retreat in disgrace before winter at the latest. We don't have much time left, at the latest one or two months. My army still needs to be expanded, and Dixter also needs time to rebuild his network of relationships. After all, he has been on the run for many years, and many of his connections have long been severed."

"Ron, you said you wanted to establish maritime trade routes and a fleet, right?" Geralt's gaze turned serious.

"I suggest you take advantage of this time to go to Skellige and talk to Kratz in person. I can introduce you to him. Otherwise, once the plan succeeds and the war between you and Nilfgaard begins, it will be difficult to find such an opportunity again. Although Kratz is stubborn, he is very principled. As long as you can make him feel that you are trustworthy, he will treat your business as his own."

Ron nodded. "Yes, I will. But I need to go back to the territory first. I've been in Novigrad for too long. I need to take care of things back there, and I also need to go to Cowburg to rescue the people on the way. By the way, are you familiar with Margarita?"

Geralt thought for a moment, "I know her, but not well. My limited understanding of her comes from Yennefer. Margarita isn't interested in politics. She and Yennefer are good friends. She joined the Sorcerer's Guild only for the school's benefit. In short, she's a good person."

"Someone you speak highly of should be worth the trip," Ron said, straightening up.

"After you return to Novigrad, go directly to Dudu. I will have him prepare a ship to Skellige in advance. He will arrange the route and supplies for you. You just need to get to the dock."

Geralt's lips curled into a slight smile. "I won't say thank you. Anyway, you've helped me a lot again. I'll treat you to a drink when we meet in Skellige."

Geralt turned and walked down the wooden steps of the terrace. A moment later, the sound of horses' hooves faded away along the road toward the Pontal River.

Just then, a series of orderly footsteps came from the stairs, and Erwin came up carrying a notepad and a list in his hand.

"Ron, the Seagull is ready. Oh, by the way, I've purchased quite a few items as you requested."

His finger scrolled down the list: "Magical materials for Kayla, mostly rare crystals and alchemical catalysts, some of which were purchased from Mr. Luwen's private collection, as well as Novigrad's latest perfume and dress."

"I brought Brom a dozen or so cases of dwarven spirits, the brand recommended by Zoltan, Gretka's toys, candy, and various books and textbooks. For Karl, I brought the Biz Town sword, handcrafted by Hatori. Also, there were various goods that everyone asked me to help purchase before I came, Todd's quenching oil, Yuna's new file, the apothecary tome that Aina wanted, and the weapon care oil that I bought for old Gotttor."

After listening, Ron's lips curled up slightly. "Well, Erwin, our ship will stop at Cowburg for a bit. There's a lot to do. I'll tell you the details once we're on board."
