Chapter 15 The Murder Case

"Take a look at this body. What do you find?" Koji Yano turned to the side, completely exposing the scene to Tetsuya Hanyu.

Upon hearing this, Yuzuru glanced at the female corpse lying on the ground, narrowed his eyes slightly, and began to observe it carefully.

First, there's the wound.

"Apart from the back of her head, there were no particularly obvious injuries on the female corpse, and the edges of the wounds were neat, which is typical of blunt force trauma."

Secondly, there's the location.

"The fact that the body was lying face down indicates that the point of impact was from behind, which also confirms that the murder weapon attacked the victim's head from behind."

As Yuzuru spoke, he looked up and surveyed the room.

This KTV room was much smaller than theirs, only about fifteen square meters. There were three sofas in the room, and on top of two of them was a vase with artificial flowers and water.

On the far right, the glass bottle was not only broken, but the water inside had also spilled all over the floor, mixing with the blood on the carpet and emitting a strange smell of rust and dampness.

"You have excellent observation skills, which makes you well-suited to be a forensic pathologist." Koji Yano nodded approvingly after listening to his analysis.

Yuzuru: "..."

He didn't want to be a forensic doctor, dealing with corpses all day long, which was tiring and didn't pay much, and it didn't fit his life plan at all.

"Any other discoveries?" Koji Yano continued to ask.

"Hmm..." Yuzuru looked at the corpse and pondered for a moment, his brows furrowing slightly. "I feel that the corpse seems a little out of place, but I can't quite put my finger on it."

Conan, standing at the door, also stroked his chin. He shared the same feeling as Toru Hanyu: something about this corpse was strange.

"Is that so..." Koji Yano paused for a moment, then looked at the corpse and fell silent.

"It must have been an accidental death," Inspector Megure said, pointing to the intact glass vase next to him. "This thing is heavy and filled with water. If any of the three girls were the murderer, there's no way they could have lifted it and smashed it on the victim's head."

"Yes," Takagi Wataru chimed in. He walked over, wrapped his arms around the vase, and with all his might, barely managed to lift it a few centimeters off the table, his face turning red from the effort.

"But they don't have an alibi," Yuzuru said after a moment's thought.

"Hmm..." Inspector Megure nodded, acknowledging the fact.

"I just went to the front desk to check the surveillance footage. The section of the corridor leading to the restroom is a blind spot for the cameras. The receptionist said it was to protect customers' privacy," Takagi said as he walked back.

"If that's the case, then it means that the two girls who went to the restroom also had the opportunity to commit the crime." Yuzuru's voice was calm, but it instantly made the atmosphere in the room tense.

"That being said... but based on the situation at the scene, the possibility of accidental death is very high." Inspector Megure still insisted on his judgment.

"By the way, did the deceased offend anyone before her death?" Yuzuru suddenly turned his head and looked at the three girls with different expressions.

"Um... if we really have to talk about it, Yuna and Mio had a fight before this." Yano Rina, who was wearing glasses, hesitated for a moment before speaking.

"Huh?!" Yuna Nakano, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, suddenly turned to Rina Yano with wide eyes, her tone full of displeasure, "Hey! What do you mean?"

"I'm just stating the facts. Mio stole your boyfriend, and you held a grudge and killed her out of grief. That's normal, isn't it?" Yano Rina looked quiet and gentle, but after being glared at by Nakano Yuna, she retorted loudly without showing any weakness.

"Is this true?" Inspector Megure's gaze immediately shifted to Yuna Nakano, his expression scrutinizing her.

"How could that be!" Yuna Nakano retorted excitedly, her face flushed red. "If we really have to talk about it, isn't Rina, you're the more suspicious one?!"

Everyone was taken aback, not expecting there to be a follow-up.

Yuna Nakano continued bluntly, "Mio has better social skills than you, and she even 'borrowed' your ideas, stealing the club position and an important competition qualification that should have been yours. Do you think I don't know that?"

"You!" Yano Rina's face instantly turned red; clearly, the other party had accurately hit her sore spot.

Horie Miyuki, who had been silent all along, appeared somewhat calm. She crossed her arms and spoke calmly: "If that's the case, then if Mio didn't die in an accident, then the murderer is among you."

Yuzuru looked at the cold corpse on the ground, then at the three girls with different expressions on their faces, and fell into deep thought.

Betrayal and jealousy between friends may not seem as friendly as they appear on the surface.

"Um... Yuzuru-nii, there seems to be something down there." Conan, who had somehow ended up lying on the floor, pointed under the sofa with his little finger and said.

"Huh?" Inspector Megure turned around and saw Conan lying on the ground.

Takagi Wataru reacted quickly, hurriedly lying down and looking in the direction Conan pointed. Sure enough, there was something glittering in the shadows under the sofa.

Wearing gloves, Takagi carefully extended his arm, fumbled around for a moment, and finally managed to remove the object.

"This looks like a ring," Takagi said after examining the object in his palm for a moment.

"Have you lost anything?" He stood up and asked the three girls, holding up the ring.

"No..." All three girls shook their heads.

Among them, Rina Yano, who was wearing glasses, took a closer look and said, "This looks like Mio's ring. I've seen her wear it before."

"Are you sure?" Takagi asked, turning to the other two girls while holding the ring.

"I don't know..." Both of them said they weren't sure, since they were just friends and wouldn't pay attention to the details of each other's accessories.

"Let me see," Yuzuru said, gesturing to hand him the ring.

Takagi Wataru glanced at Inspector Megure, and after the inspector nodded, he carefully handed the ring to Habu Toru.

Yuzuru picked up the ring and examined it closely, noticing something engraved on the inner band. He brought the ring up to the light and made out the small hiragana characters on it.

"Mio Mio."

"This should be the deceased's ring, with the deceased's name engraved on it," Yuzuru said, his voice not loud, but loud enough for everyone present to hear clearly.

"It seems this is also one of the pieces of evidence." Koji Yano took the ring from Toru Hanyu and prepared to put it in an evidence bag.

Yuzuru's gaze slowly shifted from the small ring back to the corpse lying on the ground.

The lingering sense of unease in my mind suddenly became crystal clear at that moment.

He finally understood where that strange feeling in his heart came from.

Because he was now completely certain that this was not a case of death caused by an accident.

It was a real murder case!
