If you can drive as well as someone else by using their setup, Red Bull would only need Verstappen to share his setup to have a second driver who can rival him.
For race cars, especially those with a narrow tuning window, tuning that maximizes their performance is generally difficult to master.
Even if a race car has excellent handling, using someone else's racing car settings can still lead to some degree of conflict in driving style.
He unleashed the car's performance, but he might prefer an oversteer setup, while you might be more used to understeer. How would you drive then?
The AT03 is a race car with a very narrow tuning window, making it not easy to handle. Gasly's driving style and the driving style corresponding to Tontatta's tuning were not a good match, so Gasly lost control and crashed into the wall.
Fortunately, the damage to the car was not serious, and the team managed to repair Gasly's car before the start of qualifying and switch back to Gasly's own setup.
Before qualifying, let's take a look at the track conditions for tonight's qualifying session.
The track temperature was 26°C, which is relatively low for a night race. Drivers may need to put more effort into tire temperature management.
The wind speed was 17 km/h, which is average.
Gasly switched to soft tires and was the first to leave the pits.
The incident during practice has had a slight impact on Gasly's mentality. He needs to make the most of qualifying time to regain his touch and confidence.
Gasly did a warm-up lap on the field, but the tire temperature did not reach the expected level.
"The track temperature is too low, I need more time to warm up the tires," Gasly said in the TR. "Tom might need to pit earlier to warm up the tires."
Tang Che then switched to red tires and left the station to begin warming up the tires.
After the second warm-up loop, Gasly's tire temperature had reached the expected level, and he began doing flying loops.
Before Tangcher had even finished his second warm-up lap, Gasly's flight lap was already over—1:30.645, temporarily placing him seventh overall.
This lap time is faster than Gasly's fastest lap time in Practice 2, which can boost Gasly's confidence to some extent after the accident in Practice 3.
"Tang, you can start doing flying laps," Mattia said in TR. "You don't need to push hard this lap; test the track's grip first."
No driver would push at full power right from the start. Without understanding the track's grip, who would dare to push at full power?
The track's grip is not constant. As the race progresses, more and more rubber detaches from the wheels of each car and adheres to the track, thus increasing the track's grip.
Tang Che leisurely began to do his first flight circle.
This does not mean that Tanger was running around randomly.
Tang Che didn't just wander off aimlessly; he came prepared!
Tanger's racing line was very precise, but he didn't push the limits when braking in the corners.
Speed on curves is true speed; who doesn't accelerate on straightaways?
How can you go so fast on a curve? — Late braking.
The later you brake, the shorter the braking distance, the less time you take to enter the corner, and the faster you can take the corner.
On certain curves, a late braking can result in a lap time advantage of 0.1 or 0.2 seconds.
Tanger doesn't pursue braking limits in the corners, which means he gives up those lap time advantages.
Even so, Tanger was still significantly faster than Gasley on this lap – 1:30.005.
Tang Che immediately started doing the second flight circle, this time he could push a little harder.
Push, push... but it won't move!
Tang Che couldn't hold back any longer: "Damn it!! I'm losing power! Another ERS system malfunction?"
Mattia couldn't hold back any longer: "It's a fucking fuel system malfunction... F**k!"
Now that things have come to this, even if you can't hold back anymore, you have to accept reality.
Tang Che: "Should we take it back to the P-room or just leave it here?"
The car is still drivable, but not very fast, and it's hard to say whether it will stall while driving.

"It's okay, a problem now is better than a problem in tomorrow's race," Tang Che said. "It's okay to be behind in the starting grid. As long as we can participate in the race, there's still a chance."

With the vast majority of drivers using soft tires in Q1, Mercedes' strategy team had Hamilton use medium tires.

When Hamilton was doing his first flying lap, the car was bumpy and slippery, making it uncomfortable no matter how he drove. His lap time was like a tortoise crawl, and he struggled a lot.
The entire red flag was pulled, and Hamilton pitted to change into a set of old soft tires that had been used for three laps, but he still struggled when he came out.
Hamilton ultimately finished only 17th, suffering a surprising exit in Q1.
In contrast, Hamilton's teammate Russell used a relatively conservative setup and advanced strongly to Q2 with a 4th place finish.
It's phenylethane, but it seems to be helium magnesium ethane.
The valid lap time that Tontatta set before his car malfunctioned placed him 13th overall when the clock stopped in Q1, allowing him to advance to Q2. However, because the team failed to repair the car in time, Tontatta was unable to participate in Q2, finishing last in Q2 and starting the race from p15.
In Q3, Perez secured pole position, Leclerc p2, Sainz p3, Verstappen p4, and Tontatta's teammate Gasly comfortably p9.
After qualifying, Verstappen approached Tontatta: "What's wrong with the car?"
Tang Che: "The fuel system is malfunctioning. The specific cause is unknown, and engineers are still investigating."
Verstappen: "Will it be fixed before the main match?"
Tang Che: "Hopefully it can be fixed."
"P15 started a little behind, but it's just a matter of overtaking a few more cars," Verstappen patted Tancher on the shoulder. "I believe you can definitely get back to where you belong."

Both Tontatta and Verstappen knew very well that the AT03, even at its limit, would only reach P5 or P6. With the cupping king falling behind, Tontatta still had to beat Russell to secure a P5.
