The Witcher: Grinding Experience Starting as a Wolf School Witcher
Chapter 88 Frey Natravin
A point of light pierced the darkness on the lawn in front of the three people, and grew larger and larger, forming an oval halo about two people high.
A figure emerged from it, and the raging wind that had been drawn into the light circle dissipated.
"Damn, why is it so dark here?"
"Geralt, what happened?"
A crisp voice came through.
Alwin looked at the other person's appearance, slightly surprised.
In his memory, sorceresses used magic to alter their appearance, and they were often young and beautiful, like fairies in a painting.
However, the woman who emerged from the teleportation array did not have a beautiful appearance, nor did she look young.
Her face shape is very similar to Nannick's, very round, with relaxed eyebrows and bright eyes, giving people a friendly feeling.
Geralt stepped forward and got straight to the point: "Frey, we need your help."
"us?"
"Snapped!"
Frey snapped her fingers lightly, uttered a spell, and a reddish-white light, like a firefly, flew from her fingertips.
The light source illuminated several meters around them. Frey's gaze swept over the cat eyes of the three people in front of her, and she said with great interest.
"Tsk tsk, three witchers, that's a rare sight indeed."
"Um?"
She looked at the white-haired middle-aged witcher standing next to Geralt, her tone tinged with surprise.
"You...you're Holt, you're still alive?"
Holt's wariness vanished, replaced by embarrassment. "Ms. Frey, it's been a long time."
Arwen and Geralt looked at Holt with inquisitive eyes.
After all, he had just been very hostile towards the sorceress.
Holt coughed lightly. "She treated me before."
Frey smiled. "That happened a long time ago, you don't need to worry about it. Doctors saving lives is just normal."
"That's good, since almost everyone here is someone I know, except for one person."
As she spoke, Frey looked at Alwin.
"My name is Frey Natrawyn. And you, young, dark-haired witcher?"
"My name is Alwin, Ms. Frey. It's an honor to meet you."
Alwin gave a slight bow.
A slight surprise flashed across Frey's eyes; it was rare to find a witcher who understood aristocratic etiquette.
She returned the greeting, "Me too, Mr. Alwin, it's an honor to meet you."
After the introduction, Frey stood up straight.
"Geralt, you summoned me with the necklace, so the matter must be urgent. Let's not waste any more time chatting."
"To be honest," she paused, her tone filled with curiosity and scrutiny, "I'm very interested in what you need my help with. What is it that even three witchers working together can't solve?"
Geralt said seriously, "This matter is very complicated and dangerous."
Seeing this, Frey abandoned her casual attitude and became serious.
"Tell me, I owe you a favor."
Geralt gestured to Arwen, who stepped out from among the three and took out the magic crystal mirror.
"We need you to restore the image in this magic crystal mirror."
Frey took the mirror, a fleeting glint of shrewdness flashing in her eyes.
When a hand brushes across the mirror, the patterns on the frame representing air, fire, water, and earth simultaneously light up with a dazzling light.
"There was a mental imprint in this mirror, which should have been the program to destroy the mirror, but it was forcibly erased."
"Hmm, the method of forcibly stopping it was very crude; it must have been done by a magic apprentice. However, restoring the image shouldn't be a big problem."
As Frey spoke, Geralt secretly glanced at Alwyn out of the corner of his eye.
Holt was also slightly taken aback.
A magic apprentice? What magic apprentice is this?
Alwin remained expressionless and offered no further explanation.
Frey turned the mirror over and saw the emblem on the back.
"A bird without feet?" Her expression turned strange, then she suddenly raised her head, her tone becoming extremely cautious and carrying a warning.
"Do you know whose this is?"
The three of them didn't speak, but from their expressions, Frey had already gotten the result she wanted.
She paced back and forth, saying, "You've really found a good opponent."
Geralt's lips curled into a bitter smile. "Frey, if you have any reservations, we won't force you."
"Heh..." Frey rolled her eyes at Geralt. "Geralt, you're still the same as you were a few months ago. You look cold and ruthless on the outside, but you're full of enthusiasm on the inside."
As she spoke, her gaze secretly swept over Alwin and Holt.
These two have very sharp eyes.
If she refuses, given their proximity, these two will definitely try to force her to stay.
"When we were marking the land by the lake, I got you caught up in the conflict between a marquis and an earl. Now you've returned the position of dean of a magic academy to me, so we're even."
"I will recreate the image in this mirror; it will take three to four days."
"And you? How are you going to deal with Atamon? His golem skills are among the best in the entire continent."
"A golem?"
Alwin was surprised.
Frey explained, "A huge thing created using magic."
"They don't think; they just obey their owner's commands."
"To put it simply, it's a magical puppet."
"But Atamon's golems are not simple, just like the subject he is currently studying: the golems of wisdom."
"He attempted to combine animals with golems, which is no longer a simple procedure, but rather gives the golems a certain degree of autonomous judgment. This is a key project of the Ben Ade Magic Academy."
"I remember that half a year ago, Atamon presented His Majesty King Miodrag with a dragon golem, which was transformed from a flying lizard."
"Flying lizard?"
Holt and Geralt's eyes narrowed; this thing was terrifying, possessing almost all the abilities of a dragon, including flamethrowing.
It is evident that Atamon's skill in creating golems was truly extraordinary.
Arwen spoke up upon hearing this.
"Ms. Frey, how long has Atamon been researching the subject of the Golem of Wisdom?"
Frey touched the cuff of her left sleeve with her right hand, pondered for a moment, and said, "A long time ago, a very long time ago, I think it was during the time of King Dagred?"
"No, it could also have been when Ewing was king."
"King Ewing, son of King Dagred, reigned around 1190, which is more than forty years ago, so that matches up."
Arwin muttered to himself, these were things he had read in the "New Account of the Kingdom of Cordwin".
He stepped forward and addressed the crowd.
"I saw some records in Kaer Morhen's library about Ardzu, the founder of the Witchers."
"It contains records of Alzur's experiments, which not only created the Witcher, but also a great many life modification experiments."
"Among them are lizards, centipedes, and the like. Through mutation, their bodies become enormous, their strength is immense, and they unconditionally obey their masters' commands. As living beings, they also possess a certain degree of intelligence."
"This has many similarities with the issues Atamon is currently facing."
"I think this is very likely what Atamon is after."
Geralt had also thought of this.
He had also read this book about Arzu in the library.
Holt echoed this sentiment, speaking softly, "If it's really your guess, then whoever assassinated the young count back then, would have been implicated as a witcher."
"Then, given the status and position of the Marquise de Seville, there will be no resistance whatsoever in promoting the book 'Freaks' throughout the country."
"Inciting a mob to attack Kaer Mohan was simply going with the flow."
"That's right." Alwin nodded.
Frey listened to the three people's conversation and suddenly spoke up.
"Wait, Madame Seville? You mean the young count who was killed back then?"
"Ms. Frey, are you aware of this?"
Frey raised her hand and tucked the stray hairs from her forehead behind her ear.
"Of course, this matter caused quite a stir back then. The Marquise de Sévia summoned all of Cordwin's physicians to the capital, and I was no exception."
"The young count was stabbed in the abdomen, but judging from the size of the wound, it was not a longsword, but a dagger."
"I still remember the scene of Madame Seville's fury, threatening to tear the murderer to pieces."
"Even that village was completely wiped out by bandits under her secret orders."
"A village massacre? Where is that village located?"
"Alvin asked."
Frey recalled briefly, "If I remember correctly, not long after the massacre, a new village was rebuilt there, called Shoemaker's Village. If you'd like, you can go there to look for clues."
"Shoemaker's Village..." Holt looked south. "I know it. It's on the border between the upper-level landmarks and the royal domain."
Geralt shook his head. "Forty years is too long. I'm afraid there won't be any evidence left."
Holt lowered his eyes and agreed with Geralt's words.
"No," Alwin said suddenly after a moment of contemplation.
"There's still a possibility."
