"Gwent?"

Arwen glanced down at the scattered card decks on the table, a smile playing on his lips.

Since things had come to this point, he had no reason to refuse.

"Of course, it's just that I don't have a deck."

"Hey!" Dwarf Gren patted his rough hands. "That's easy, poor Vaughn. Just let this guest use your deck."

Vaughn spat on the ground and gave up his seat.

Arwen sat down and picked up Vaughn's deck. Although the card designs were quite different from what he remembered, as a Witcher 3 player, he recognized it as a Northern Realms deck built around ballista units after just a quick glance.

Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at the cards that the other party had left on the table, which hadn't been organized yet. Several of them depicted elves.

"The Squirrel Party? No, they probably don't use that name yet, but it's likely very similar."

"And this deck only has one special card, Frostbite. It's a miracle they can win."

I quietly removed two archer units and replaced them with two special environment cards.

"Lord Glenn, let's begin."

"Looks like you're pretty confident. Let's make it clear first, the minimum bet for one round is 100 ducats."

"No problem."

Alwin took out 15 crowns and placed them on the table.

The three men beside him lit up, and the dwarf, Gordon, shouted excitedly in his loud voice, "Great! Same rules as always, best two out of three!"

Both players drew ten cards from their shuffled decks, and the dwarf, Gordon, looked delighted.

"Wow, this hand is fucking awesome!"

Arwen glanced at his cards and found he was also quite lucky. He had an Engineering Support, an Evolution Spore (Madromi), a Legendary King's Knight, and a Dense Fog to reduce ranged area attacks.

"They extracted the core so quickly? Tsk tsk..."

Alwin was delighted, but remained expressionless.

"I'll play first!"

The dwarf, Gren, yelled and threw a card into the remote area.

She is an elven archer with an attack power of 3.

Arwen played a Temerian Guard in the melee zone, with an attack power of 2.

"Hey, only 2 o'clock? Haha! Look at this picture of me, the Elf Queen, 7 o'clock!"

'Another ranged card, adding up to 10 points,' Alwin thought to himself, glancing at the Dense Fog in his hand (which reduces the combat power of ranged units on both sides to 1). 'I'll wait a bit longer.'

Then another Temerian Guard was added.

"Activate the Chain effect of the Temerian Guards. For each card with the same name on the field, the attack power is multiplied by the corresponding multiplier. Now there are two cards, so each Temerian Guard is multiplied by two, and the total attack power is 8 points."

"That's interesting," the dwarf Gordon stroked his beard, "but that's about it."

He played a Dwarven Clan Leader in the melee zone, with 6 attack and 16 board attack.

Seeing this, Arwen also drew a card in the melee area.

"Legendary King's Knight, its effect is to summon all Knights' Squires in the deck."

As he spoke, he placed a Knight Squire from his hand and then selected two more cards from his deck.

"Legend has it that the King's Knight has 10 points, and the Knights and Squires together have 3 points. Now my attack is 21 points."

"Your turn, Lord Glenn."

Upon seeing this card, the archer Vaughn, standing nearby, cried out in surprise.

"Oh my god, do you even know how to play cards? The Legendary King's Knight is my trump card! You should play your squire first, and then decide whether to play the Legendary King's Knight based on the situation!"

"This way, we can assess the situation first, avoid reducing our hand size unnecessarily, and then make a decision, understand? You idiot!"

"Vann, who's playing cards, you or this guest? What are you yelling about?" the dwarf Gren mocked.

Archer Vaughn slapped his forehead and sighed, "Damn it, I gave my card to an idiot. What bad luck."

The dwarf Grunt smiled and played another ranged card: "Elf Archer, 4 points, 20 attack, your turn."

Alwin tapped his fingers lightly on the table, knowing the other party's intention.

Even if your opponent's attack is lower than yours, if you give up playing your cards, they only need one card to turn the tide of the battle.

You currently have 6 cards in your hand, and so does your opponent.

Let's win this game first.

Arwen revealed a card engraved with gray mist.

"A thick fog that obscures the sun."

"You have three cards in your ranged area. Activate the field effect of Dense Fog. The combat power of these three cards becomes 1 point, which means the field attack becomes 12 points."

"Good heavens! A dense fog that blots out the sun! Damn it, you used it right away! This dwarf is using an elf deck with a bunch of ranged cards, and you just used this damn dense fog! What a load of crap!"

Archer Vaughn, spitting and cursing, said, "Get out of here, I can't stand it anymore, let me fight."

"Hey, Vaughn, it's not your money you're betting, why are you getting so worked up?"

Vaughn froze, stunned, and secretly regretted that he hadn't been the one to propose the Gwent game; otherwise, the 15 crowns would have been his.

The dwarf, Gren, grinned, convinced that Arwen was a novice. "Hey, fold. You win this round."

Alwin curled his lip, and both of them drew a card, the face of which depicted sunlight.

"They've arrived."

"I won the last round, so I'll play first."

"Medic, 3 attack power, activate effect: pull Temerian Guards back from the graveyard, 5 attack power."

"Ha, it's my turn! Legendary Elf Leader, 10 points of attack power!"

"Catapult, 8 points! Field attack, 13 points."

Dwarf Grunt places a card into Arwen's ranged zone: "Elf Spy, your attack is reduced by 5, becoming 8."

"Spy reduces board presence? Aren't you going to draw a card?" Alwin paused, "Isn't this the gameplay from the mod? Hmm... that's fine..."

"Witcher, 7 points, 15 points of field attack."

"Dwarf Axeman, 4 points, 14 attack! Your turn!"

Arwin glanced across the other side from beneath his hood. 'The same old tricks.'

Looking at the cards in his hand again, both of them only had 3 cards left. "I fold."

The dwarf, Glenn, clenched his fist and roared, "Oh ho!"

By this time, Vaughn had started sighing and muttering to himself, regretting not speaking up first and proposing the Gwent game.

"My turn, Dwarf Spy, your board attack -3!" said the dwarf Gren.

Alwin didn't care. He glanced at the spy chief he had drawn and placed it in the opponent's ranged area. "Here's a spy card back. Your field attack is reduced by 7."

"Interesting, Elf Archer, 10 attack points, 3 field attack points."

Arwen plays Engineering Support: "Activate the effect of Engineering Support, summon all Ballistae from your deck. Engineering Support: 2 points, two Ballistae: 3 points, field attack: 5 points."

"My turn, my turn!" Dwarf Gordon eagerly threw out a card, "Tree Spirit Archer, activate its effect, summon all cards of the same name in your deck!"

He threw a card from his hand and took another from the deck. "Three cards in total, 12 attack points, 15 points on the board."

"Sir, you only have two cards left. I think one of them is the Madromi Evolution Spore, right?"

Alwin chuckled and put down a card in his hand.

"You guessed right. Activating Madromi's evolution effect will upgrade my ballista to an enhanced ballista, increasing its attack power from 3 to 5, and triggering a chain that multiplies the attack power of both cards by 2, for a total of 20, and giving it 19 attack power on the field."

"Ha ha!" the dwarf Glenn laughed loudly, "Finally, yours! Your 15 crowns are mine soon!"

"A torrential downpour has reduced the attack power of all ballista units on the field to 1. Let me see, you only have three ballista units on the field, with 3 attack power. Plus my spy, which reduces attack power by 3, hey, that's exactly zero!"

Vaughn shrugged. "Look at him, he's a complete novice, playing his cards haphazardly."

"What do I do now? I need a card worth more than 15 points, but I don't even have that card in my deck!"

Even the usually silent knight Draco couldn't help but shake his head.

The dwarf jumped up from the stool, rubbing his hands together. "Hey, you humans will have to wait hundreds more years before you can beat us dwarves at Gwent."

"Your Excellency, I will gladly accept your crowns."

"Wait," Alwin said in a low voice, "I have one last card."

The dwarf, Glenn, snorted smugly. "Alright, alright, I'll see what your last one is."

Arwen flipped the card in his hand, its surface etched with a blazing white light.

"I'm afraid you'll be disappointed. Sunny Day, remove your Downpour environmental effect and restore your field attack to 19."

"Lord Glenn, I've also been waiting for this one for a long time."
