The Witcher: Grinding Experience Starting as a Wolf School Witcher
Chapter 36 No Way Out
In the dim light, five pairs of cat eyes, emitting a ghostly glow, looked at each other.
The stone wall in front of me was so smooth that it looked as if it had been carved by man, without a single dent, and covered with a layer of blood-red moss. There was absolutely no place to put my footing.
Without exchanging words, the tall Paul stepped forward first.
He leaned against the stone wall, legs apart, hands clasped in front of his chest.
Winston then stood on the opposite side, kneeling on one knee, creating a second point of leverage.
Alwin strode forward, using the two of them as support, his lithe figure like a leopard cat leaping up and successfully climbing to the top of the stone wall.
He immediately bent down to observe his surroundings, and only after confirming that there was nothing unusual did he signal Aiken and Horton to come up.
The three then worked together to pull Paul and Winston up the rock face.
The cave was completely silent; the only sounds were the dripping of water and the soft breathing of the people inside.
The group's gazes simultaneously focused on the deep, dark corridor in front of them, from which a foul, damp smell wafted continuously.
Arwen recalls his conversation with Geralt.
There are two paths to successfully pass through Old Spearhead's cave.
One option is to walk along the bottom of the stone wall, which will lead directly through the old spearhead's "bedroom," increasing the probability of waking him exponentially.
The other path is the passage in the stone wall in front of us, which will circle around the old spearhead's "bedroom," greatly reducing the risk.
After exchanging glances with the others, Alwin walked at the front and entered the passage.
They traveled silently, without even disturbing the bats hanging from the cave ceiling.
The passageway began to narrow.
The stench of decay in the air grew stronger and stronger.
Suddenly, Alwin, who was at the front, stopped in his tracks.
Aiken and the others following behind looked puzzled and turned to look ahead, then their bodies trembled.
As planned, a stone wall appeared on the road that should have been unobstructed.
There's no way out!
A sense of panic spread through everyone's hearts.
Arwen placed his palm on the surface of the stone wall, which was uneven and full of gaps. His gaze moved to the stone walls on both sides of the passage, where there were countless cracks on the surface.
He kept his voice very low.
"It's rubble from the collapse."
"So what do we do now?" Paul replied.
Aiken picked up a pebble that had fallen to his feet, and crushed it with his palm.
"These pebbles must have fallen recently; we can use the Aard sign to push them away."
Horton immediately objected, "No, such a loud noise will wake up Old Spearhead."
"Shall we go back and use the passage below?"
Aiken and the others pursed their lips; the infamous reputation of the Cyclops Old Spearhead was already etched into the very bones of Kael'thas's apprentices.
Countless apprentices have died at its hands during the many trials of the high mountains.
Something's not right.
Arwen suddenly spoke, and everyone's eyes turned to him.
Horton's words reminded him.
Especially the word "awakened".
"Something's not right. It's been too quiet on our journey..."
Quiet?
Before Horton and the others could react, Paul's hoarse voice sang an unpleasant melody.
"Old Maotou's snoring was deafening..."
Upon hearing this, the others suddenly realized what had happened, as if they had fallen into an ice cave.
They had walked for quite some time, at least four or five hundred steps, and were already not far from Old Spearhead's "dormitory".
"Damn it, Old Spearhead isn't asleep."
"We should leave."
Alwin roared in a low voice.
"Quiet, listen to me."
The panicked emotions were suppressed.
"Return to where you are and wait to confirm the old spearhead's movements before making any further plans."
"But...but the trial ends at midnight the next day..." Winston said.
Alwin didn't care about any of that; if he died here, all his efforts would be in vain.
"withdraw."
Seeing Alwin's resolute attitude, Aiken and the others agreed with his decision.
Just took a step.
Heavy footsteps came from behind.
"clang!"
It was the sound of boulders hitting the ground, accompanied by a hoarse and unpleasant growl, echoing continuously in the passage, causing the pebbles scattered at one's feet to tremble.
Startled, the bats flew out of the cave.
"It's Old Spearhead, Old Spearhead is back."
Paul spoke urgently.
Alvin pressed down on his shoulder, focusing his mental energy intently to carefully discern the voice.
They were immediately horrified to discover that the footsteps were getting closer and closer.
He pressed himself against the wall, and the enhanced vision granted by the [Cat] potion allowed him to vaguely see a dark shadow in the distance, gradually growing larger.
There is no way out.
He turned around, facing the rubble wall, his face contorted in a ferocious grimace.
He raised both hands and unleashed the Alder sign impact with a thunderous roar.
"Bang!"
The gravel vibrated, dust rose, and a gap was created.
Aiken immediately followed up, unleashing the Alder sign.
Next up were Paul, Horton, and Winston.
The fan-shaped shockwaves crashed against the surface like ocean waves.
The heavy footsteps behind the five people suddenly quickened.
Old Spearhead discovered them.
Alwin's inner alarm bells were ringing loudly.
Faster, faster!
[Dual Soul] erupts, and the Aard sign in hand increases the output.
"boom!"
The rubble blocking the way finally cleared a narrow passage.
A look of joy appeared on everyone's faces.
"Clang clang clang!"
The noise behind me grew denser and more urgent, like death knocking on the door.
"run."
Paul was the first to crawl into the tunnel.
"quick!"
"Houghton, keep up."
"Winston, you fucking kicked his ass!"
Aiken roared, and panic almost instantly overwhelmed them.
Suddenly, the sound of the giant object striking the ground disappeared.
Alwin's pupils narrowed. "Get out of the way!"
Before the words were finished, a sharp, piercing sound exploded in the passageway.
"call out!"
A dark red lightning bolt flashed across Alwin's head and struck the gap above it.
"Splash!"
The gravel fell like raindrops.
Seeing that Winston was still stuck halfway, Aiken disregarded everything else and used the Quen sign to shove Winston hard with his right hand.
Dust billowed up, filling the entire field of vision.
"Waaah..."
Aiken let out a low groan, his lips tightly pressed together, his face as white as wax, and he almost ground his back teeth to pieces in order not to scream.
Alwin rushed over to check on him. The man was covered in dust, his arm was pinned under rubble, and his leather jacket was stained with blood.
The former raised his hand and softly chanted a spell. Green light spots flew from his fingertips and attached themselves to Aiken's arm.
A look of astonishment flashed across Aiken's pale face, contorted with pain.
Dharma seal!?
No, it's not!
It's...it's magic!
How can a Witcher use magic?
After a moment of surprise, Aiken regained his senses.
This healing technique was far from enough; his entire right arm was pinned under the rubble and he couldn't move unless he used a sword to cut off his shoulder.
What difference is there between a Witcher without his right arm and a dead man?
The old spearhead was almost upon them.
"Go quickly, don't worry about me..."
Aiken gave a smile that looked more like a grimace, even though he wasn't usually a very attractive person when he smiled.
Arwen ignored him, took a bottle of [Swallow] potion from his pouch, and stuffed it into his left hand.
My brain is working at lightning speed.
"To fight a Cyclops in this confined space would be certain death."
"To survive, we must get out; we must lure the old spearhead out of the cave."
With that thought, Arwin whispered to Aiken, "Keep quiet."
The latter trembled, his expression moved. Through his green cat-like eyes, one could see the black-haired boy stand up and turn his back.
He reached over his shoulder, drew his silver sword, and a light blue Kun seal quietly appeared.
