Sanctuary Starfield Journey
106-6 The Shadow Isn't Blind
Mo Bei walked on, and a mine appeared ahead. Some blind people were carrying ore upwards, while others were mining downwards. Mo Bei shook his head after seeing this: "They don't even spare the blind, that's too ruthless. But how do blind people mine?" Loamaya replied: "The Blind Kingdom probably mines minerals and transports them to space to sell for money. As for blind people mining, it's probably because they have strong physical abilities. Most blind people have strong other functions, such as hearing and smell." Mo Bei nodded after listening: "That's a very informative explanation. What's that saying again? When God closes a window, he closes another." Mu Yun asked in confusion: "Doesn't that mean opening..." "Another window?" Mo Bei tilted his head, thinking, "Probably? Maybe I've been in the Giant Rift for too long and my brain's a bit fuzzy." Mu Yun got a little excited after hearing about the Giant Rift, and the cloud above his head turned into a small sun: "You've been inside? Wait, no, you actually came out of there! What happened?" Mo Bei stuck to his usual excuse: "For details, please see Chapters 61 to 100 of the Holy Domain Starfield Journey, and please vote for it while you're at it." Mu Yun said, "It's a hidden ad, but since I've already said it, I might as well vote. It's free anyway."
The dim streetlights cast a yellowish glow on the narrow path paved with iron plates, occasionally flickering out. Footsteps echoed from the crisscrossing iron bridges above, carried by blind men transporting ore.
After passing several mines and rounding a corner, a palace made of iron came into view, and something emerged from it. Mo Bei looked at the thing: "What is that? I don't think I've seen it before." Luo Amaya said, "This thing seems to be able to see us." Lu Qingyu, who was invisible, cocked his gun, and the shadow beneath his feet shifted slightly.
The thing walked up to them, stared into Mo Bei's eyes, and said, "Men, throw these people who haven't paid out." Several blind men with pitchforks appeared nearby. Mo Bei immediately explained, "I only said a few words, but I did pay." The thing said, "I'm the city lord. I didn't receive any money. What's there to argue about?" Mo Bei said, "Then why don't you go blind?" The thing whispered in his ear, "Do you have any way to prove it to them?" Then it stood up straight and shouted, "Throw them out!" Then it scanned its surroundings, seemingly looking at something. Mo Bei could only watch the unknown thing smiling at them, helplessly being thrown into the elevator, taken upstairs, and then kicked out of the city.
Night fell as Mo Bei landed. Mo Bei hadn't even reacted yet: "Huh? Is this plot right? How did I get kicked out? The landlord has a magical artifact, how can he just kick people like that?" Mu Yun said, "I...I don't know either." Luo Amaya said, "This is also a setback that fate gives us. A life without setbacks is fake; fate is inevitable." Mo Bei said, "Why don't we go to sleep first?" Mu Yun pretended to yawn: "Okay then, I'm a little sleepy." Luo Amaya nodded. The group returned to the Mo Yun ship. Mo Bei let the two of them sleep on the bed, while she lay down on the sofa.
Mo Bei opened his eyes, stepped out of the Mo Yun warship, and unfurled his Thunderflame Wings, which were particularly conspicuous in the night. "I'll face this city lord alone," Mo Bei thought to himself, then felt his Thunderflame Wings seem to have grown stronger. "It seems this is the power of responsibility."
Mo Bei flew through the city gates of the Blind Kingdom and into the elevator. This time, he knew to press the button. While waiting for the elevator to descend, Mo Bei continued to gaze at the iron bridge. On the iron bridge, the city lord appeared; in the darkness, his glowing eyes were particularly striking, as were his hands.
Upon seeing this, Mo Bei used Thunderflame Strike to launch a surprise attack. The city lord dodged and appeared in a flat area. Mo Bei locked onto his position and immediately followed.
"Finally, you've fallen for it. Compared to a rat, you're quite daring. We'll get rid of you first, and then we'll deal with the others later."
Mo Bei spoke, "Now you can't escape, can you?" He fired a Thunderflame Bomb, but the city lord dodged it using "Shadow Transformation." "Then tell me, why should I run?" Mo Bei scratched his head, tilted his head, and whispered, "I don't think I know either." Then he cleared his throat and put on what he thought was a very serious expression: "You are guilty." The city lord replied, "You don't know either, so why shouldn't I tell you the truth? I blinded these people using Dark Transformation, imitating Nipawan, to harvest their willpower." Before he finished speaking, he felt a sense of unease, as if something was pressed against his head, like the muzzle of a gun, ready to be used as Shadow Transformation at any moment.
Mo Bei said, "You beast!" Although he didn't know what was so beastly about it, the script instructed him to say it that way. The city lord replied, "So what if you know? How many of your useless accomplices can actually fight? Their cultivation levels are all low..." He paused, "So what if there are people lurking in the shadows? What can you do to me?" Upon hearing this, Mo Bei became very angry: "So what if your cultivation level is low? Are you high? Does being high give you the right to do evil at will?" Then he unleashed a Thunderfire Bomb, "I can easily blast you apart by myself." The city lord then used the technique of transforming into a phantom, but this time it seemed as if the gun barrel pressed against his head had disappeared.
After the city lord materialized, he launched a surprise attack on Mo Bei, his hands vanishing into nothingness: "Try it, my nothingness!" Mo Bei tried to run, but found he couldn't escape. He used Thunderflame Strike to dodge, but the city lord, as if using auto-aiming, automatically locked onto him and attacked Mo Bei again, no matter how he tried to escape.
Just as Mo Bei was about to be hit, countless spaces shattered, and Mu Yun arrived with Luo Amaya to save the day. A clone appeared beside Lu Qingyu, who was hiding in the shadows, and fired a shot. Jiang Nanyue, meanwhile, gathered countless souls, coalesced them, and fired forward.
But the city lord still managed to use the "Transformation into Nothingness" technique, dodging Loamaya's spear before striking Mo Bei. Mo Bei's eyes widened, thinking, "To be stolen from in front of so many people... how embarrassing..." His gaze gradually clouded, lightning and flames gathered beneath his feet, a ring appeared behind him, accompanied by a dragon's roar. His knees and shoulders were enveloped in lightning and flames, and finally, a cloak burst forth from his shoulder blades.
