Tai Zhu Xuan Xiang: Me and My Eight Golden Gourd Sisters

Chapter 47, Part 3 & 4: The Birth of the Golden Gourd

Suddenly, the fifth golden melon seemed to have discovered something.

Two invisible beams of light shot out from the melon, piercing through the heavy night and shooting into the distance. The light was silent, yet it seemed to penetrate everything in the world and witness the truth. In an instant, every blade of grass and every slight movement at the foot of the distant mountain fell into her ears and eyes.

"Brother, sister, another ferocious beast is coming up the mountain!"

After observing for a while, Fifth Golden Melon shouted anxiously.

Upon hearing this, Cai Xuan's expression turned serious. He quickly walked to the edge of the second-floor platform of the wooden house and looked down. Xi'er and Yun'er gripped their weapons tightly, standing on either side. The six small golden gourds hanging from the wooden frame also quietly watched below, their bodies gleaming slightly, ready for battle.

"Awoo!"

A long howl pierced the night sky.

One after another, wolves leaped in from outside the wooden wall. Before long, their gray-brown figures covered the hillside, huddled together, howling incessantly, trampling the nearly harvested sweet potatoes and other crops into a mess. These wolves were larger than calves, their ferocious teeth bared, and their pairs of eerie green eyes gleamed with a bloodthirsty glint in the night.

"Eek—"

A sharp screech suddenly came from the sky.

Cai Xuan looked up and saw a flock of fierce owls flying in from the distant horizon. They were larger than the leopard-headed buzzard, with a wingspan of four zhang (approximately 13 meters), and their feathers were dark red. Under the moonlight, they looked as if they were stained with blood.

Behind them followed the leopard buzzards that had been previously driven back.

Now that they have reinforcements, these leopard-headed buzzards have regained their prowess, roaring and howling in the air as if declaring their revenge.

From the sky to the ground, beasts and birds attacked from both sides.

Cai Xuan frowned deeply as he watched this scene. The pack of wolves numbered at least a hundred, and the fierce owls and leopard-headed buzzards combined numbered in the dozens. This hurdle... was going to be difficult!

"Let's go get the bow and arrows. We'll start with ranged attacks, then move on to melee."

After Cai Xuan finished speaking, he turned around and went back into the house to get his weapons, with Xi'er and Yun'er following closely behind.

The Wolf King stood on the hillside, its crimson eyes coldly fixed on the wooden hut. Once all its minions had entered, it raised its head and let out a long howl, leading them slowly towards the hut. The fierce owl and the leopard-headed buzzard circled overhead, their wings flapping and whistling, their pairs of menacing eyes fixed on the scene below, ready to pounce.

"Get ready."

Cai Xuan returned to the platform, immediately took out his rattan bow, nocked a long arrow, and aimed at the wild wolves below. Xi'er also raised her rattan bow. Yun'er silently nocked an arrow, her gaze as cold as water.

"Shoot!" Cai Xuan shouted, releasing his grip.

"Whoosh—"

The arrow flew like a meteor, piercing the body of a wild wolf. Unfortunately, the wolf's hide was thick, and the arrowhead only penetrated half an inch, causing it no harm. Enraged, the wolf quickened its pace and charged towards the cabin.

"Watch me."

Xi'er pulled the rattan bow with all her might, but with a "crack," the sturdy rattan bow broke in the middle.

"Uh... Brother, I didn't mean to." Xi'er was a little embarrassed.

"fine."

Cai Xuan had considered all sorts of unexpected events, but he never imagined that something like this would happen.

Seeing that the rattan bow was useless, Xi'er threw it aside, grabbed a long axe, and swung it at the wild wolves. Yun'er, on the other hand, shot quite well, one arrow after another, each arrow killing a wild wolf.

Enraged by this, the Wolf King roared and drove his men toward the platform.

The fierce owl circling in the sky also cried out sharply, urging the leopard buzzard to swoop down and attack.

From the sky to the ground, wolves pounced on the platform, their bloodthirsty mouths snapping at people; while leopard-headed buzzards swooped down, their hooked claws aimed straight at the people on the platform.

At this moment, the ferocious birds and beasts didn't even glance at the treasures like the large golden gourd vine and the small golden gourd; they only thought about tearing Cai Xuan and the others to shreds.

Cai Xuan dropped his rattan bow and thrust his spear forcefully into the head of a wolf that was lunging at him, the blade penetrating three-tenths of an inch into its flesh.

The wolf howled and fell off the platform.

Xi'er swung her long axe, cleaving the three-headed leopard-headed buzzard in two at the waist with a single sweep, blood splattering everywhere. Yun'er's spear moved like a dragon, thrusting and parrying, each strike precisely piercing the wild wolf's vital points.

On the wooden shelf, several small golden gourds were being sold.

As the sixth golden gourd swept across the scene, several wild wolves fell silently; the fifth, seventh, and eighth golden gourds were also cheering and encouraging their older brothers and sisters.

There were simply too many ferocious beasts. As one wave fell, another surged forward, one after another, making it impossible to kill them all.

Cai Xuan, Xi'er, and Yun'er were exhausted from dealing with the situation. If it weren't for the help of the other golden gourds, it would have been difficult for Cai Xuan to stand here properly!

The third golden gourd used the water flow to kill several wild wolves and leopard-headed buzzards, but found that hanging on the vine was too restrictive and could not effectively kill the enemies. So it suddenly struggled and fell off the golden gourd vine.

In an instant, precious light burst forth, and rosy clouds shone brightly!

The melon rind shattered into pieces, turning into countless points of light that danced in the night sky.

From within the speckle of light, a beam of azure light shot into the sky, like a water column piercing the clouds, illuminating the entire night sky with shimmering light. A moist and refreshing scent filled the air, like a mountain forest after rain, invigorating the spirit.

As the light faded, a little girl of about ten years old stood steadily on the platform.

She wore a small garment made from the stamen of a large golden gourd flower, her skin was as white as snow, her temperament was gentle as water, and her brows carried an undeniable firmness.

"Third Sister, you're out too!" Xi'er exclaimed in surprise.

"Big sister."

The girl nodded slightly, her gaze sweeping across the battlefield, and immediately opened her mouth and spat out a stream of water.

The water flowed like a waterfall, causing the wild wolves that were pouncing upwards to retreat in unison.

Seeing her swift and fierce attack from the vine, the fourth golden melon could no longer contain itself and laughed loudly, "Brothers and sisters, I'm going out too!" With a forceful shake, the melon immediately detached from the vine and fell to the ground.

The melon rind shattered instantly, revealing a dazzling glow.

A crimson beam of light shot into the sky, its intense heat almost scorching the heavens and earth. The beam even tore a large hole in the clouds, revealing a dazzling galaxy behind it.

As the light faded, a girl stood in the center of the platform, her pupils seemingly flickering with flames.

Her skin was a healthy tan, and her figure was much more robust than her third sister's. Her temperament was the complete opposite of the third sister's; she was passionate, flamboyant, and fiery, like a small sun that could explode at any moment.

"Fourth Sister, you're out too!" Xi'er, Yun'er, and Third Sister called out at the same time.

"Big sister, second sister, third sister, I'm out!" Fourth sister grinned.

The wild wolves attacked again, and Fourth Sister immediately spat out balls of fire, which landed on the wild wolves, injuring or killing all of them.

The two ferocious beasts, the wild wolf and the leopard-headed buzzard, are covered in fur and are most afraid of fire. They would quickly stay far away from her if they saw her breathing fire.

With a thought, the third sister conjured a stream of water into a water bow. Holding the bow in her hand, she drew it slightly with her right hand, and a water arrow appeared out of thin air on the bowstring. Although the water arrow was formed from water, it was as sharp as a knife and gleamed with a cold light.

"call out"

The water arrow shot through the air at a speed so fast it was almost impossible to see with the naked eye, and struck the eye of a wild wolf that was about to pounce on Cai Xuan.

The wolf let out a miserable howl and collapsed to the ground, unable to get up.

Water arrows rained down like a storm, each one hitting the beast's vital points without missing a single shot.

The pack of wolves and the leopard-headed buzzard were thrown into disarray and retreated in all directions.
