Chapter 127 Midnight Duel
Chapter 127 Midnight Duel
"Huh? Why would you have such a thought?" Ernie asked, looking surprised.
"Look at that narrow broom handle," Lucas said, pointing at a broom in the corner of the tower with his brass binoculars. "Riding on that and flying a few hundred meters would definitely increase the chances of getting hemorrhoids. It's more exciting than riding an Aruba."
"What is an Aruba?" Zacharias chimed in, "Lucas, you're talking about the most primitive flying broomstick. I've seen medieval broomsticks in the Quidditch Museum. It's just a rough, unpolished ash stick, full of bumps, with a few hazel twigs tied to one end. It's really terrifying. Everyone calls it the Living Widow Maker."
"But then things changed. Elio Smythe invented the Cushion Charm, and everyone could sit comfortably on their brooms. An invisible, soft cushion would support your butt, penis, and testicles—"
Ellie and Hannah, who had already curiously gathered around, exclaimed "Oh!" Ellie glared at him fiercely, while Hannah's ears turned red.
"Wow, Zacharias, you know so much about brooms!" Lucas exclaimed in surprise. To be honest, Zacharias' performance in his courses was average, but he had a deep understanding of broom techniques and could even name specific people involved.
Hearing Lucas's exclamation, Zacharias immediately became smug: "Of course, Lucas. I'm a professional when it comes to brooms and Quidditch. I've been watching Quidditch and riding brooms since I was a kid."
"It's just that first-year students can't join the Quidditch team, otherwise I'd show you what the Broom Prince and the Ruler of the Sky really are..."
The classroom immediately split into two factions. One side consisted of badgers from wizarding families, who began to boast endlessly about their broom skills, usually boasting of their glorious feats of narrowly dodging Muggle helicopters while riding brooms.
On the other side were the Muggle-born young wizards, all eagerly watching their classmates' eloquent speeches, memorizing the so-called broomstick riding tips, afraid of falling off the broomstick and embarrassing themselves the next day.
Lucas and his group mainly listened to Zacharys's rambling.
"The oldest broom game originated in Sweden and was a race. Players rode brooms through the dragon's territory, and the winner of the fastest time won a silver dragon trophy."
"This competition remains very popular to this day. The annual broom contest has become an international event, with wizards from all over the world gathering in Kopalberry every year to cheer for the athletes and then apparition to Aljeplug to congratulate the winners."
With the fairies' sponsorship, the trophy has been upgraded to gold.

"Then came the German pillar play, which died out in the fourteenth century. A fire-breathing dragon bladder was placed atop a twenty-foot pillar. One athlete, riding a broom, was tasked with protecting the bladder. Other athletes took turns flying towards the bladder, trying to pierce it with the specially sharpened tips of their brooms, causing the bladder to explode and spray urine everywhere..."

Ellie frowned as she listened. The MacFastie family hunted black dragons with extreme restraint, balancing "respect" and "take," but the dragon materials sent to the magical world certainly didn't include fire dragon bladders. Fortunately, this neurotic game had died out.
"In Great Britain, many native broom games emerged, such as stilt fire buckets, cauldrons on the head, aerial collisions, and riding brooms backwards."
"Stilt fire buckets involve riding brooms through hoops of fire, while aerial collisions involve a large group of people riding brooms and crashing into each other; the one left on the broom at the end is the winner. Riding brooms backwards involves riding brooms backwards and taking turns hitting a pig's bladder with the broom's tail—"
I think it's because dragon bladders are hard to get...

"Most notably, the head-balancing cauldron sport originated in Scotland. Twelve competitors gather at the arena, each with a cauldron strapped to their head. The competition begins, and one hundred magically suspended stones of varying sizes, suspended one hundred feet above the ground, begin to crash down. The competitors' task is to use the cauldron on their heads to catch as many stones as possible. On average, half the competitors are killed in each round..."

Zacharias sighed with deep regret: "Scottish wizards generally considered this the ultimate test of masculinity and courage. It's a pity that the game has been banned since 1762."
"Finally, the swamp ball sport that originated in the Quidditch region gradually evolved into Quidditch... the most popular sport in the wizarding world..."
"The evolution of brooms is truly fascinating," Zacharias said, beaming. "Oak Arrow 79, Moon Dream, Silver Arrow, the ever-competing Sweep and Comet series, and then there's the Arrow of the Fallen, the Swift, the Meteor, and now, the undisputed best racing broom, Nimbus!"

"Mr. Smith!"
Unfortunately, he was too excited and his voice grew louder and louder, which finally caught the attention of Professor Aurora Sinister.
Professor Sinister glared at him angrily: "I think we're going to learn about Saturn's rings this lesson, not some kind of halo! Five points deducted from Hufflepuff!"
So the little badgers could only turn their attention back to the boundless starry sky behind the telescope and lens, suppressing their longing for the broom and the sky, and looking forward to their first flying lesson the next day.
Lucas noticed that throughout the discussion about brooms and flying techniques, Ellie had a smug, enigmatic smile on her face. But when he asked her about it, Ellie refused to say anything.
The class lasted until nine o'clock in the evening. A cold wind began to blow, and the little badgers stomped their feet as they made their way down the road, eager to get into the warm and comfortable common room.
As soon as he stepped off the tower, Lucas was intercepted.
"Lucas!" Harry waved. "Come on, I've been waiting for you."
So Lucas, Ellie, and Hannah broke out of the group and followed Harry to the foot of the Gryffindor Tower.
"What's wrong, Harry?"
Harry's face showed a mixture of nervousness and excitement: "Lucas, would you be my dueling partner?"
"A duel?" Lucas was stunned, and Ellie and Hannah were also taken aback. "A duel with whom?"
Harry quickly explained, and Lucas raised an eyebrow: "Huh? Malfoy?"
Ellie's voice was even louder: "What? You're on the Quidditch team? Didn't Zacharias say freshmen aren't allowed on the team?"
It turns out that Harry outperformed Draco in the afternoon flying lesson, and was later discovered by Professor McGonagall. Because of Harry's superb flying skills, he was exceptionally allowed to join the Gryffindor Hogwarts team.
Draco had expected Harry to be severely punished for violating the effect, but Harry returned beaming. Draco was furious and challenged him again. The two agreed to a duel at midnight tonight in the prize room.
"Harry, I have to say you're like a protagonist in a novel, with some idiotic character always watching you, a permanent villain on your path to adulthood, constantly causing you trouble," Lucas said.
Harry quickly said, "I didn't want this either. Malfoy was the one who started it, and I get really angry when I see him."
I used to think there was no one more annoying than Dudley, until I met Malfoy.
He explained briefly, then quickly asked, "So, did you agree? Please, Lucas, you're my best friend."
"Malfoy may be a terrible person, but he's from a wizarding family after all; he might know a few magic tricks. And me? Right now, all I can do is make a feather fly. Do you think I'm going to use it to tickle Malfoy's chin and make him laugh to death?"
Ha looked at Lucas with expectant eyes, and Lucas naturally nodded.
Although Malfoy had always kept his distance from him, he couldn't just stand by and do nothing now that his friend was being bullied.
Hmm, with the combat spells I've mastered now—the tickling spell, the full-body binding spell, the disarming spell, the fire spell, the bone-pulling spell... and those dueling techniques—I should be able to defeat Malfoy, right?
"That's great, Lucas! I knew you'd help me!" Harry jumped up and hugged Lucas tightly, as if he could already see the scene of trampling Malfoy under his feet.
"Then it'll be 12 o'clock, see you at the prize display room!"
"What are you all doing here?"
As midnight approached, Lucas was frustrated because Ellie and Hannah insisted on coming with him.
"Are you kidding? How could you go to a duel without me?" Ellie excitedly tucked her wand into the strap of her sleeve, ready to pull it out at any time.
"Hey, Lucas, have you forgotten? I was entrusted by Professor Sprout to keep a close eye on you and prevent you from doing anything risky," Hannah said righteously.
Uh, if I go to duel in the middle of the night, I'm going on an adventure, so am I carrying out a mission or breaking the rules?
Lucas shook his head: "Forget it, we'd better keep it down. Wandering around like this is a serious violation of school rules, we might get expelled."
Ellie acted as if she hadn't heard him, while Hannah shrank back, gritted her teeth, and stared at him, indicating that she would absolutely not go back.
So the three of them crept forward stealthily, walking through the quiet corridor, passing between the sleeping portraits and armor, praying that they wouldn't encounter the talkative ghost, let alone the professor on night patrol.
The three of them carefully climbed up to the prize display room on the fourth floor of the castle. As soon as they stepped inside, they saw a flash of fire on the opposite side!
Lucas slid to the left, simultaneously lowering his body and swinging his wand.
"They'll all be petrified!"
The blue light struck the opponent directly, and with a snap, the little wizard on the other side stood up straight, letting out two exclamations at the same time.
"Harry!"
Harry?
"Flash!" Ellie lit up the tip of her wand, and everyone finally realized it was a misunderstanding. It was Harry who had been hit by Lucas's Body Binding Curse.
He arrived early, nervously watching the door, terrified that Malfoy would suddenly rush out and curse him. When Lucas suddenly appeared, he didn't even see clearly before instinctively waving his wand. He only managed to make his wand emit a few sparks before being bound by Lucas's counterattack, only his eyeballs able to move.
Harry was accompanied by Hermione and Neville.
Hermione had intended to stop Harry from breaking school rules, but after much persuasion, she couldn't stop him. She was furious and about to return to the common room when she realized that the portrait of the Fat Lady was nowhere to be found, and she couldn't open the door to go back.
Then the two ran into Neville at the door, who had forgotten the password and was sleeping in the corridor. So they formed a three-person team and went to the prize display room.
In the dead of night, six first-year students gathered here, and Malfoy and his assistant were also coming soon, making a total of eight people.
The lively scene relieved Hermione; it seemed that the more people broke the school rules, the more at ease she felt.
After the curse was broken for Harry, everyone gathered together and waited quietly for Malfoy to appear. However, as time passed, although they didn't know the exact time, Lucas was certain that it was past midnight.
Oh my god, is Malfoy going to stand us up?
Just as I was thinking this, a voice suddenly rang out from next door.
It was a piercing meow, and Neville jumped up and clung to Lucas.
"Honey, look where they're hiding... Ha, Harry Potter and his friends are on a night out, they're going to have a great time tonight..."
""
It's Filch!
Lucas suddenly realized that Harry had been tricked by Malfoy; he had no intention of coming to the appointment at all, but instead reported the information to Filch!
Damn, this kid doesn't follow the rules at all, he's got a really bad heart.
Lucas grabbed Neville and waved to the others, signaling them to stay close. Separated by only a wall, Lucas and his group held their breath as they brushed past Filch—the feeling was incredibly thrilling. Hermione, in particular, was pale, her eyes nearly bulging, yet a faint blush clung to her cheeks.
They had only taken a few steps when Lucas swiftly grabbed Neville to prevent him from bumping into a suit of armor, giving everyone a fright.
Even so, the cat named Mrs. Lorris remained a persistent nuisance, its meows almost always following behind the group, leaving them with no other choice but to keep moving forward, hoping to shake it off.
As he walked, Lucas realized something was wrong.
This place... isn't it that fourth-floor corridor?
An oak door appeared at the end of the corridor, and Lucas and Ellie both stopped in their tracks.
The three-headed dog was locked in this room at the time!
However, Professor Dumbledore himself assured that it had been moved, so the room is empty now, right?
The sound of a cat meowing rang out again from not far away, and Lucas quickly poked at the keyhole.
"The Arahomon Opens!"
A flash of magical light appeared, but the door lock didn't respond! What's going on?
Hermione rushed forward and cast the unlocking spell as well, but it had no effect.
Filch's footsteps grew closer, and Harry panicked. He pushed the door open, and with a soft click, the lock suddenly opened!
Before they could think, everyone rushed into the room. Lucas and Ellie lit their wands almost simultaneously. Thank goodness, the huge room was empty; there were indeed no living beings, just a dilapidated wardrobe in the center of the room.
Hermione locked the door behind her and eavesdropped by pressing her ear against the door. She heard Filch walk around a few times, not finding anyone, and then leave cursing.
Everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief, and Harry suddenly pointed to the wardrobe: "Look, there's a trapdoor under this wardrobe!"
Curious, he took a few steps forward, wanting to get a better look at the trapdoor. Suddenly, with a creak, the wardrobe door opened shakily.
Harry gasped and froze instantly.
Everyone could see clearly that, under the light of the wand, a tall, thin man stepped out. His face was distorted, paler than a skull, with bloodshot eyes. He had no nose, only two thin slits flat like snakes.
He stared intently at Harry, letting out a cold, sharp, sinister laugh.
"Harry Potter..."
