Chapter 96 The Foolish Prince's Coronation Ceremony
Chapter 96 The Foolish Prince's Coronation Ceremony
Salomon agreed to Nick Fury's request not only because he suddenly discovered that this world was scientific and to explore the differences between parallel worlds, but also because of something in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s possession, namely Howard Stark's box and the documents inside—Howard was a member of the Brotherhood of the Shield, and his technology was still used by S.H.I.E.L.D. to this day, even in the Coulson Team formed in the future, Howard Stark's technology was used.
Salomon plans to examine the box left behind by Howard Stark to see if there are any clues inside.
He didn't know what the Brotherhood of the Shield was like in this world, nor had he read all the manuscripts in the Holy Cross Church, but he could guess with his toes that Leonardo da Vinci would never put Brotherhood of the Shield documents together with ordinary manuscripts. Currently, the most useful manuscripts to him were the Franciscan alchemical writings and the Brotherhood of the Shield's alchemical records; it was thanks to those documents and his memories that his alchemical skills had improved so rapidly.
Furthermore, his confidence in entrusting the potion to Nick Fury stemmed not only from his lack of concern that S.H.I.E.L.D. could decipher his alchemy, but also from his use of the "Infusion Alchemy" technique to ensure the potion was infused with Vishanti's positive energy. Divine magic is a form of spell that shapes positive energy, and the Conjuration Healing sub-school focuses on its application. Whether healing external injuries, removing negative influences, exorcising undead, or fighting lower-dimensional beings, positive energy excels in all these areas. It is precisely for this reason that Salomon was able to use the "Heal Wounds" spell to heal himself after becoming a Vishanti sorcerer.
However, positive energy is not entirely a good thing; this applies to any energy that is excessive and out of control.
The mages of Kamar-Taj (witchcraftians, sorcerers, or whatever you like) may undergo changes in behavior and beliefs after receiving a positive energy connection from the Vishanti. They may find themselves unknowingly becoming passionately devoted to the cause of eliminating the undead, demons, and protecting the innocent. Although this change is very subtle (partly because most mages are not highly skilled), and even the mages themselves may not be aware of it, it still has some impact—this is the origin of the minor conflict between the Sorcerer Supreme and the Vishanti.
As for the worse side of positive energy, it is completely disordered positive energy. Even the energy released by a guiding priest is orderly. Completely out of control positive energy is no less than a disaster.
Salomon had already anticipated that Nick Fury would definitely study the drug he provided and would only supply it to Stark when absolutely necessary. If S.H.I.E.L.D. was helpless against this positive energy, that would be fine, but if they actually managed to extract it and apply it to living organisms, then the completely out-of-control positive energy would cause flesh to proliferate wildly, causing experimental animals to grow multiple arms, legs, and heads, or simply turn them into giant, living tumors.
This was him demonstrating the dangers of magic to Nick Fury, a warning because he knew S.H.I.E.L.D. was also adept at getting into trouble.
When Salomon made his request, Nick Fury thought for a moment and then refused.
Everything went as he expected. When he asked Salomon for help, he sensed disbelief in Salomon's tone. Although he didn't know why Salomon found it incredible, his agent's intuition made him instinctively probe. He didn't know where Salomon's information came from, nor could he find out the source, but he could test Salomon's intelligence network and find blind spots, because he wanted to find Salomon's weakness.
The King of Spies trusts no one, including himself. Now that Salomon has brought up Howard's box himself, it sets a limit to Nick Fury's assumptions.
Unsurprisingly, Nick Fury refused. It was another deal, and he needed to rummage through the chests again, trying to find anything he might have overlooked that Salomon might need. Only after that could he proceed with the next transaction. Negotiations broke down. Salomon picked up the diamond dust, opened a portal, and sent Nick Fury to the roof of the Tri-Wing Tower. He then left the Mirror Dimension through the portal himself.
"This is revenge!" Nick Fury said, one hand on his hip and the other pointing at Salomon, his one eye glaring at the sorcerer. "I completely forgot you're still a petty high school student! Ha, is this the gentlemanly conduct of Eton College?"
"No, this is the result of your laziness." Salomon scoffed at Nick Fury's accusation. "Who told you to give Agent Hill so much work, causing her to spend so much time organizing files in the office? Do you want me to open a portal in my office and have Agent Hill send you two bullets? I don't want to frighten a lady; that's gentlemanly conduct."
"If you don't use magic, Agent Hill could easily twist your head off," Nick Fury said. "She's an agent."
"Even if I used magic, there are still a few ladies who could easily twist my head off. Sexism has never existed for me, unless I want to die." Salomon twirled one hand as if grasping a non-existent joystick, and a new portal opened. "White gentlemanly manners are a problem, okay, white people are all a problem. Don't look at me like that, you're Black, I'm Jewish, we're both minorities. But the difference is one wanders the streets, getting arrested for not having a receipt from the supermarket; the other counts money in the bank, squandering cash and enjoying white services. You see, the difference isn't that big."
"Ha, now I know why you're the way you are now." Nick Fury peered into the portal, but a gust of wind nearly knocked him over.
"Don't even think about it. I opened the portal in mid-air when I left here," Salomon said. "Do you think I wouldn't be wary of you, Nick Fury? We're looking down on London right now."
"I thought we were friends."
"Ha." Salomon walked towards the portal against the howling wind, just as he was about to plunge in, he suddenly remembered something. He turned around and shouted to Nick Fury against the wind, "Don't text me, don't call me, and don't try to track my signal for the next few days."
"I think you should know this is my surveillance of you." Nick Fury pointed to his one eye and shouted at Salomon, "Under the surveillance of S.H.I.E.L.D. I am S.H.I.E.L.D."
“No, I mean… your signal can only be tracked up to Eton,” Salomon said. “Michael’s term is over, and I’ll leave the computer you gave me at the school. I’m going to pack my things now, though there’s not much to pack.”
"You want to escape my surveillance?" Nick Fury asked.
"Unless AT&T has a receiver on another planet, you won't be able to track me down."
"You're going to outer space? Is this your vacation?"
"It's just to attend the coronation ceremony of some stupid alien prince."
------------
In the silent, endless void stands a dazzling, incomparably precipitous inverted mountain, its summit framed by vast, swirling white clouds, above which lie thick layers of rock. At the foot of this mountain lies a spring, the root system of the World Tree, which firmly binds this boundless, rootless mountain to the void.
Unparalleled magic and technology enabled the Asgardians to build their city at the base of this floating mountain, constructing corridors along its precipitous slopes. Endless springs converged to form an ocean, cascading down from the edge of Asgard into the void. Opposite to the inverted mountain stood a towering, colossal golden palace and golden walls, rising like a golden peak at the heart of Asgard—the palace of Odin, the Allfather.
Today is an exceptionally sunny day, and the entire city glows with a golden light under the twinkling stars.
A vast corridor stretched along the road leading to the Golden Palace, flanked by two rows of towering golden armored figures, weapons in hand. Even the tallest Asgardians could not match the height of their pedestals. Salomon and the Sorcerer Supreme strolled slowly along this marble-paved path, before a lady-in-waiting of the Golden Palace standing before them.
Salomon had changed out of his Eton College tailcoat and cloak, donning instead a black occult robe and a red shroud. He had arrived as a Kamar-Taj apprentice, a disciple of the Sorcerer Supreme, and naturally needed to wear his own robes. The Sorcerer Supreme also wore black robes, but those robes were devoid of magic, as he needed none.
As the lord of Midgard, a state with autonomous power, the Sorcerer Supreme naturally received an extremely warm welcome upon arriving in Asgard. In fact, Salomon and the Supreme had arrived in Asgard a few days earlier, but neither could accept the rather rustic Asgardian cuisine. Today, Salomon was accompanying the Supreme for some fresh air. Since Odin, the Allfather, and Frigga, the Queen of the Gods, were both busy with important upcoming events, only Frigga's personal handmaid accompanied them.
Asgard is a true feudal system, where the power of noble bloodlines is vastly different from that of commoners, and Frigga's handmaid is also a noble. Although she doesn't know why Odin, the Allfather, treats a mortal mage from Midgard with such respect, her long lifespan, far exceeding that of commoners, and the rich knowledge gained from her extensive education make this handmaid very clear about what she should and shouldn't ask.
Even if she asked, only the Allfather and Queen of the Gods could give her an answer in all of Asgard, but Odin obviously wouldn't reveal his shameful secret, otherwise he wouldn't have placed a replica of the Agamotto crystal ball in his treasury.
The Sorcerer Supreme led Salomon on a leisurely stroll through the streets and alleys of Asgard, explaining to him how runic magic had constructed the city. The Sorcerer Supreme saw this as a golden opportunity to broaden Salomon's horizons; Asgardian runic magic was in no way inferior to that of the Vishanti lineage. She clearly didn't want Salomon to become complacent after learning magic. Although the Sorcerer Supreme wasn't particularly skilled at teaching (even after so much time, most people in Kamar-Taj were self-taught, only consulting her when faced with unsolvable problems), she still did her best to explain her understanding of runic magic to Salomon.
Salomon was clearly not an arrogant fool; from the moment he followed the Venerable One into Asgard, he sensed the magic here. It was an unparalleled power, and at its core was the Golden Palace of Asgard. He could even call this magic extremely "great." He held the books the Venerable One had borrowed from the Asgardian library, examining them and comparing them with the Venerable One's descriptions, because these books could absolutely not be found in the library of Kamar-Taj; they were books Salomon had never seen before.
In fact, even Kamar-Taj, which collected most of the magic books on Earth, had very little knowledge of runic magic. Salomon was extremely fortunate to be able to read runes. These books were far more important to him than the treasures in Odin's vaults.
Asgard made ample preparations for this grand event, and the Golden Palace was unusually open to all Asgardians. A skylight opened above Odin's throne, and sunlight streamed in, converging at the highest point of the hall. The soaring golden throne was the most dazzling spot in the hall, upon which the Allfather sat, holding Gungnir.
The handmaid reminded the Sorcerer Supreme that the ceremony was about to begin. The Sorcerer Supreme waved his hand, and the handmaid, Salomon, and himself were moved from the outer corridor of the palace to the steps flanking the throne. Salomon didn't even sense the Sorcerer Supreme's spell, and the handmaid was dumbfounded. She looked around blankly, then hurriedly ran down the steps, for she was not allowed to stand there. Fortunately, the Sorcerer Supreme had chosen a spot behind a golden pillar with relief carvings, so no one noticed the handmaid.
Before the throne stood two rows of soldiers in golden armor, standing silently, spears in hand, their gazes never wavering. These were the renowned Asgardian warriors—as for the true Valhalla and the whereabouts of the warriors, that was a secret known only to Odin.
Dressed in opulent attire, Queen Frigga stood on the steps. She spotted the Sorcerer Supreme and Salomon, and gave a slight nod to the Sorcerer Supreme, who returned the nod. Salomon's manners were impeccable. Odin, the Allfather, also seemed to have noticed the Sorcerer Supreme and Salomon, but he did not turn his head, nor did he reveal any expression. His single eye remained fixed on the far end of the long red carpet.
Salomon saw no trace of joy on his face and felt that the Allfather seemed to know what was about to happen. Salomon recalled the Sorcerer Supreme's expression before they set off, as if he were waiting for a good show to begin.
Isn't that sudden? I feel it's sudden too, because I drank a bottle of Monster Energy.
Shouldn't I give it a recommendation vote for this? Today's post is 4 words!
