Chapter 35 Family is the True Wealth
Chapter 35 Family is the True Wealth (Seeking Investment!)
A giant villa standing in the night was ablaze with fire on its rooftop, and sparks drifted into the night sky on the evening breeze.
Salomon stood in the stone-paved garden, looking up at the burning manor. Behind him were black bushes with twisted and grotesque branches, whose deepest darkness even the flames could not illuminate.
The negative energy that sustained Barnabas and Victoria's activities had already begun to erode the land within the manor, which was why the temperature at Colin Manor was slightly lower than in other places.
Those who remain here will be slowly eroded by negative energy, becoming old and sick. Although Willie was already an alcoholic, the low temperature made his alcohol tolerance even greater.
Salomon saw a drunken Willie open the door and rush out of the hall in a panic. The old servant had called the police after discovering the fire at the manor, and Salomon clearly heard his conversation with the firefighters.
But instead of emerging from the shadows to stop this, he remained hidden from view, continuing to stare at the top of the manor, waiting for the vampire to appear.
But such a commotion could not be kept secret from many people. Even though the area around Colin Manor was all private property, the rapidly spreading flames and the fire that turned the sky red attracted the attention of many people in the town.
Salomon didn't wait long before a car rushed into the garden, and the living members of the Collins family jumped out of the car anxiously before it had even come to a complete stop.
Upon seeing the old servant Willie, they quickly grabbed him, wanting to find out what was going on.
In fact, Elizabeth sensed something was wrong when Victoria, who was walking and chatting with them, suddenly turned into a bat and flew towards the manor; she felt that her worst fears had come true.
The most decisive woman in the Collins family immediately ordered Caroline to drive back to Collin Manor, but before they could even pass through the gate, they saw the towering flames.
The drunken old Willie could barely speak. No matter how much Caroline patted his head or how much Elizabeth questioned him, Willie only said that he heard a few noises while he was dizzy. Before he could check, thick smoke billowed out of the corridor. When he ran out of the manor to check, he found that it was on fire.
"It's that wizard!" Caroline said angrily, a low growl coming from her throat. She sniffed, trying to smell something.
Elizabeth's face was cold and hard, revealing no emotion, but her back was ramrod straight, as if the shrewd and capable head of the Collins family from thirty-one years ago had returned.
When Angelique came to her door years ago, Elizabeth had considered whether the Collins family might one day face a similar situation, and therefore she made all the preparations she could.
Elizabeth handed a key to David, who was standing to the side, and said, "Son, go with Willie to the armory and get a few guns."
"But that stuff is useless against wizards." Thick hair slowly grew on Caroline's face, her beautiful legs became even stronger, her joints deformed like the hind legs of a canine, and she grew much taller than before.
At the same time, her upper and lower jaw bones gradually lengthened, her teeth became sharp, her originally beautiful nose bulged out and became ugly, and her voice became low and hoarse, with a threatening growl when she spoke.
But the living members of the Collins family were not surprised by Caroline's change; on the contrary, they were used to it. Caroline was a werewolf—Angelique Butchard carried on her hatred for Barnabas to the Collins family, not only to embarrass them in business but also to pollute their bloodline. So Angelique ordered a werewolf to bite Caroline when she was a child.
This secret was not revealed until thirty-one years ago, during the great battle between Angelique and Barnabas at Corin Manor.
"The wizard is definitely still inside," Caroline said. "Now, let's go in and kill him!"
"Wait until David brings the gun over." Elizabeth didn't recklessly rush into the villa to attack the wizard who might still be there. She said, "With a gun, at least we can help a little."
"Trust Barnabas and Victoria; they're not so easy to deal with. At the very least, we need to let that wizard know that the Collins family is not to be trifled with."
A large swarm of bats crashed through the glass windows on the top floor of the manor, and shards of glass fell onto the stone floor. Elizabeth and Caroline looked up.
They watched as the swarm of bats hovered near the burning roof for a while before suddenly swooping down into a dark corner of the garden.
"He's there!" Caroline shouted and rushed in that direction.
Just then, David and Willie returned. Elizabeth took the shotgun from David and skillfully loaded it with bullets. It was an old gun, a Winchester M1917 trench rifle, but old didn't mean it was bad. This type of gun wasn't discontinued until 1945, and before that, it was supplied to the military. It's still in use by SWAT teams today. After loading the shotgun, Elizabeth helped David load the bullets for his M1911 pistol.
"You need to learn to fight," Elizabeth said to David as she loaded her gun. "I'm getting old, and you're the only normal person left in the Collins family. Caroline is a werewolf, which is why she's never married."
The family needs you to continue. Be brave, David. Whether we survive today or not, you must fight. Remember, David, remember, the family is the true wealth.
Salomon raised his fist and used the Ring of Raghadore to block the swarm of bats rushing towards him, feeling the impact on his arm like a wave.
He calmly extended his finger, and a ghostly blade sliced through his body, cutting several bats in two. But this did not stop the other bats. As they swooped down from the night sky again, he opened his palm, and a deafening clap of thunder suddenly rang out, heard even by Elizabeth and David, who were thirty meters away.
Lightning that appeared out of nowhere around him struck every bat, sending them plummeting from the sky with the stench of burning fur and their squeaks.
Immediately afterward, Caroline lunged forward, stepping on the stone slabs. Salomon blocked the werewolf's sharp claws with his shield, then stepped forward and punched the werewolf hard in the abdomen, slamming the whimpering werewolf back into the garden.
In the next instant, the shield in front of him suddenly burst into countless sparks, and a large number of small steel balls carrying unparalleled kinetic energy crashed into the Ring of Raghadore, knocking Salomon to the ground.
Before he could hide behind the shield again, another gunshot rang out, and a few small steel balls pierced Salomon's calves.
The excruciating pain instantly clouded Salomon's mind; he could no longer maintain the spell in his hand, and the Ring of Raghadore flickered a few times before extinguishing. He felt his legs were incredibly heavy, as if they were being burned by flames, and blood was constantly gushing from between his torn flesh.
But that pales in comparison to the agony he felt when he put on the ring.
Salomon took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. He rolled over, covered in bits of grass, and struggled to his feet from the blood-soaked grass. A white light emanated from his hand, which he quietly pressed against his calf. (Warlock: Celestial Sect Master, First Ring, Healing Wounds)
Elizabeth, holding a shotgun, pulled the bolt and strode over, aiming the gun at Salomon, who was kneeling on the grass.
Victoria appeared behind Elizabeth, accompanied by a swarm of bats. She glared at Salomon and said, "You're dead. Nobody can save you!"
