Wizard Earl

Chapter 935 Council of Elders

Sensing Bernardo's pleading gaze, the elderly man in military uniform, Domenech, another elder of the Ferguson family, didn't hesitate. He coughed lightly and then comforted the butler, Martinez, beside him, saying, "Butler, don't be angry. Connor, as the first heir of our Ferguson family, has been difficult to contact for so long. Now that we've finally been able to reach him, Bernardo is just a little excited. He meant no harm..."

Hearing Domenech smooth things over, Bernardo gave him a grateful look, then quickly explained to Butler Martinez, "Old Butler, I've watched Connor grow up. It's been over ten years since I last saw him. Hearing that I've suddenly made contact with him, I can't help but get a little emotional. It's my fault, my fault."

Seeing Domenech supporting Bernardo, Martinez, though wanting to take this opportunity to give Bernardo a further warning, ultimately refrained from saying anything more. He simply said coldly to Bernardo, "Bernardo, think carefully before you speak and act. Don't do anything you'll regret!"

Although the words were ostensibly addressed to Bernardo, the short, stout, Mediterranean-looking old man, Martinez's butler's gaze was actually fixed on Jack Ferguson, who sat above Bernardo, as he spoke:

Bernardo, despite his advanced age, turned a deep shade of purple upon hearing Butler Martinez's blatant reprimand. However, he was quite patient, not only remaining silent but also nodding. Meanwhile, faced with Butler Martinez's repeated provocations, even the usually mild-mannered Jack Ferguson finally lost his temper. Staring intently at Butler Martinez, he said, enunciating each word clearly, "Since you say you've contacted my nephew Connor, when will Connor return to the family?"

"Jack, just say what you want to say. There are no outsiders here, only family elders. You don't need to hold back!" Faced with Jack Ferguson's question, Butler Martinez didn't answer directly, but calmly said:

Seeing that Butler Martinez had spoken, Jack Ferguson no longer held back and stood up, revealing his true intentions. He looked at Martinez and said, "Very well! Since the old butler doesn't want me to beat around the bush, then I'll speak my mind. Although our Ferguson family has declined somewhat in recent years, we still have thousands of family members and numerous businesses. Now that my brother Alfredo has returned to God's embrace, the family will remain in turmoil until a new Earl Ferguson is born!"

"My nephew, Connor Ferguson, is the only son of my elder brother, Alfredo Ferguson. Whether from the perspective of imperial law or otherwise, he is the first heir of our Ferguson family. As long as he returns to our Ferguson family, I guarantee that every family elder present here will absolutely not object to Connor inheriting the position of family head!"

After a passionate speech, Jack Ferguson stood up, glanced around at everyone seated in the conference room, and continued in a deep voice, "Today marks eleven years and three hundred and twelve days since Connor left the Ferguson family and Frosinone. In these eleven years and three hundred and twelve days, all we know is that Connor studied history at Ruenglen University, and nothing more!"

"It's no secret that my brother Alfredo is in poor health; everyone knows that. So, Butler Martinez, while my brother was still alive, you started sending people to find Connor and bring him back. But to this day, Connor Ferguson, my nephew, has not returned to the family! Even a month ago, when his biological father, Alfredo Ferguson, passed away, he didn't rush back from that damned Loon!" Jack Ferguson's words trailed off, and he turned his gaze back to Butler Martinez, who sat as steady as a mountain in his seat.

"Jack, I understand what you mean. You're questioning me, doubting that the men I sent out failed to find Connor?" Meeting Jack Ferguson's gaze, Butler Martinez spoke calmly.

"Old Butler, please don't misunderstand. I didn't mean that. But the matter of inheriting the position of family head is of great importance and cannot be taken lightly. You said your people have contacted Connor, and we all believe you. But we hope you can give us a date so we can have something to look forward to!" Jack Ferguson said very seriously.

As soon as Jack Ferguson finished speaking, everyone in the conference room, except for a few people, looked surprised. They seemed to have never expected Jack Ferguson to be so assertive and directly confront Martinez, the head butler.

After listening to Jack Ferguson's speech, the head butler, Martinez, who was being pressured into a position of power, showed no anger whatsoever. Instead, a faint smile appeared on his aged face. He glanced at the elderly man in military uniform, Domenech, sitting beside him, and then at the short, stout, Mediterranean-skinned Bernardo, who remained silent in his seat. He then calmly addressed Jack Ferguson, saying, "Jack, I am the head butler of the Ferguson family. I would like to ask you, in what capacity are you questioning me?"

Jack Ferguson was momentarily speechless at the question about Martinez, the family's head butler. Although nominally just a butler, the position was actually that of the head of the family's most trusted advisor, holding a very high status within the family.

According to the rules of the Ferguson family, apart from the head of the family, only the elders of the family council have the right to question the management of the family businesses, including the head butler. No one else has this right.

Although Jack Ferguson was assigned to manage some family affairs while Alfredo Ferguson was still alive, he was not given a formal position. As for becoming a family elder, perhaps he could fill the vacancy and become one after a few years of seniority or after some of the older elders passed away. But at least at this moment, he was not one.

Seeing Jack Ferguson fall silent, Butler Martinez coughed, and immediately a tall, muscular, and formidable middle-aged man in a black suit opened the door. Ignoring the gazes of the many family elders in the conference room, he walked up to Butler Martinez and respectfully handed him a file folder.
