Wizard Earl

Chapter 799 Reyes' "Gift"

Although Jon Ferguson is a great knight who, in the eyes of ordinary people, can take on a hundred men single-handedly, to wizards he is only slightly stronger than ordinary people. He has not formed a divine sea, nor does he possess spiritual power.

Although Connor could break some of the Paredes restrictions in Danilo's divine sea, that was based on the fact that Danilo was a high-level wizard apprentice who had cultivated his mental power and whose divine sea was already very stable. Even if Connor searched his soul, his divine sea would not collapse at the first touch.

Even with the pill's protection, Jon Ferguson's mind would immediately collapse if Connor's mental power even slightly attempted to break through Paredes's restriction.

Since it's impossible to break the Paredes restriction in his mind, then let's not take the life of someone who is loyal to the Ferguson family!

After searching through the secret room for a while, Connor finally found a bronze key in a hidden compartment. After a brief inspection, and confirming that this bronze key was the one he remembered seeing before, Connor's expression became serious.

Connor, having obtained the bronze key, changed his expression and turned to walk downstairs to the family library. Following his childhood memories, Connor arrived at the first stacks on the first floor of the library, found the last row of bookshelves against the wall, and then, using the power of the Ferguson family's breathing technique, pressed down on the "Geographical Atlas of the Kaman Empire" on the bookshelf.

Under Connor's force, the over 500-page "Geographical Atlas of the Kaman Empire" was pressed directly into the wall. What happened next was unbelievable: the seamless bookshelf split in two under Connor's gaze, revealing an ancient stone door. Compared to the secret door in the second-floor chamber, this stone door was visibly much more secure. In the center of this stone door was a small hole that looked like a keyhole.

Upon seeing the stone door, Connor knew that beneath it lay the family vault, where many of the Ferguson family's shady assets were hidden. In his memory, as the heir, he had come here a few times with his butler, Martinez.

This extremely sealed and secure vault is located more than ten meters underground, protected by soil and rocks. Even with Connor's current mental strength, it would be difficult to discover it if he didn't know its location.

Because few people come to the secret vault, and it is very well sealed off, if Reyes's gift and the mechanisms and restrictions are in this library, then the underground secret vault is undoubtedly the first choice!

Realizing that what he was looking for was very likely hidden beneath this stone door, Connor took a deep breath, retrieved his Castilian Staff from his spatial ring, and then, with a wary expression, took out the bronze key he had found in Jon Ferguson's secret chamber and inserted it into the keyhole of the stone door.

"Da da da!"

With a few strange noises, Connor slowly opened the stone door, revealing a staircase leading underground. He pulled the bronze key from the keyhole, and holding the Castilian Staff, Connor slowly walked down the stairs. After stepping onto the stairs, the stone door closed silently.

Connor seemed to have anticipated the closure of the stone door and showed no panic. He continued to descend the stairs with extreme caution. Although the stone door had closed and the staircase was now plunged into deathly darkness, Connor, relying on his powerful mental strength and intuition, did not take out a kerosene lamp from his spatial ring to illuminate the way.

There were only thirty-three steps in total, and after Connor went down the last step, he arrived at the Ferguson family's secret vault, which was a basement filled with all sorts of things.

The basement contained fifty state-of-the-art flintlock rifles, prohibited from being possessed by individuals by the Kaman Empire; five large boxes of ammunition; one hundred gold bars with their markings erased; some books documenting the wizarding world; genuine internal ledgers of the Ferguson family's various businesses; records of bribes to imperial officials and church personnel... and so on. These were all things extremely important to the Ferguson family, but things that could not be brought to light.

Undoubtedly, this secret vault was a crucial support that enabled the Ferguson family to remain standing despite its gradual decline!

Connor carefully scanned the items with his mental energy, but found nothing unusual. This surprised him. Could it be that he was wrong, and that Reyes's gift and the mechanical restrictions were not in the secret vault?

This thought deepened Connor's suspicions. After a quick rethink, he conducted an even more thorough examination of the items hidden in the vault. However, after finishing his inspection a dozen minutes later, he found the same result as his first check: nothing was found…

Both examinations were fruitless, which left Connor feeling puzzled and disappointed.

Although Connor had always been wary of his mentor Reyes, even when attempting to break through to the first level of wizardry, he didn't use the potion Reyes had given him. However, after suffering some minor losses in his battles against Robbie and Adolf, two veteran first-level wizards, Connor became even more eager to improve his strength. This made him very much looking forward to the "breakthrough gift" that Reyes had given him, hoping that it would enhance his abilities!

However, judging from the current situation, Connor seems to be overthinking things; he is still a long way from receiving Reyes's gift.

Having gained nothing, Connor shook his head and wanted to return to the secret vault. However, after climbing thirty-three steps and knocking on the inside of the stone door in the way he remembered, trying to reopen it, Connor was surprised to find that the stone door, which should have been opened again, did not budge!

This discovery instantly made Connor Ferguson sense a hint of danger, and he immediately became alert!

In the complete darkness, Connor's mind raced. The stone door leading to the Ferguson family's secret vault couldn't have been locked for no reason. He had just opened it with the key, meaning the door wasn't broken. And the method he remembered for opening the door was one that the Ferguson family had used for centuries; Connor had never heard of it being altered…
