Wizard Earl

Chapter 76 The Traitor

Chapter 76 The Traitor

As Abidal's tone suddenly changed, the entire conference room fell into a deathly silence, but no one left the room.

The deathly silence lasted for a full minute before Abidal continued, "Since no one has left, please don't regret your choices later!"

"The Secret Society! It's a black wizard organization that has risen on the continent in the last hundred years. This organization is incredibly powerful. According to the intelligence we've gathered so far, it's conservatively estimated that there are at least ten members who have reached the level of a formal wizard. This organization operates in a way that is both covert and ruthless, and they act without any scruples or restraint!"

"Currently, both the intelligence we have obtained from the Storm Church itself, and the intelligence exchanges with the Imperial government and the Earth God Church, provide evidence that this black wizard organization called 'The Secret Society' has infiltrated all levels of society in the Kaman Empire. Furthermore, it's not just the Empire; there are also suspected members of the Secret Society appearing in the Kingdom of Persis, the Odin Empire, the Saint Laurent Republic, and even on the New World!"

"According to our current intelligence, the number one figure in the secret society is known within their organization as the Duke, but this person has never made a public appearance, and even their existence remains a mystery! The number two figure is called the Professor, who can be considered the actual controller of the society, and whose cultivation level is suspected to be a Level Two Wizard. We currently have no information about this Professor other than that he is called the Professor! The number three figure in the secret society is named Conti, and he is primarily responsible for the society's external communications and is the overall implementer of its operations!"

"Three years ago, Conte appeared in the New World. The Church organized a team to try to capture him, but before they could act, he had already escaped!"

"Lord Abidal, are you implying that the attack on Secret Warehouse No. 7 was a retaliatory operation planned and carried out by Conte?" Just as Abidal paused, the gaunt old Captain Eder immediately spoke up, asking:

"No! Absolutely not. According to the intelligence the church has obtained, Conte is a level two wizard. If he was the one who attacked Secret Warehouse No. 7 that day, I believe it wouldn't just be Bishop Constantine who died!" Captain Abidal said quietly.

"I'm sorry, due to your access restrictions, I can't share more information about the Secret Society with you. But I've said so much just to tell you what a behemoth our opponent is, so you must never underestimate or look down on the Secret Society."

"Our war with the Secret Society has begun. From now on, any possible intelligence about the Secret Society must be reported to me and Lady Elena immediately. Does everyone understand?" After finishing his introduction, Abidal confirmed with everyone in the conference room again:

Seeing everyone nod in agreement, Abidal looked at Elena, who sat in the main seat. Elena, holding her scepter, immediately tapped the ground with it and said calmly, "Meeting adjourned!"

After a while, when everyone else had left and only Abidal and Elena remained in the meeting room, the elegant Elena whispered, "Uncle Abidal, do you think there really is someone among the high-ranking members of the Rune Church who dares to betray the church and secretly join the Secret Society?"

'

Abidal looked at Elena with a loving gaze and said gently, "Elena, although we don't yet know exactly who the mole is, there's no doubt that there's a mole among these people. The question now is, how many moles are there?"

"Has things gotten this serious?" A look of shock flashed across Elena's pretty face as she asked in a low voice:

Abidal nodded emphatically and said, "Today we've really made a show of force. If all goes as expected, the Secret Society's next move should be more restrained. His Holiness the Pope has secretly transferred skilled arbitrators from various places to Rune. They'll all be assembled in Rune in half a month to a month, and that's when we'll launch our great purge!"

"Constantine is a complete incompetent good-for-nothing, wasting all his energy on vying for power and profit with those nobles and wealthy merchants, unaware that he has already infiltrated the Secret Society!"

"Uncle, can you tell me what the purpose of that group of secret society wizards was in attacking the seventh secret warehouse?" Elena hesitated for a moment, but in the end she asked the question she most wanted to ask.

Meeting Elena's questioning gaze, Abidal, who had a somewhat Mediterranean appearance, remained silent and shook his head helplessly.

"I am a cardinal of the church, don't I have the authority to know about this?" Elena's tone remained unchanged, but her words were filled with strong confusion.

"I'm sorry, my dear Elena, as the punisher of the Storm Church, I have no authority to tell you this secret. Furthermore, as your elder, I don't wish you to know this secret!"

"Tap tap tap tap tap tap!"

As the sun sets on the highway leading from Sassuolo back to the city of Loen, a horse-drawn carriage struggles to move forward.

"Thank you so much, sir, for waiting so long!" Sitting in the carriage, Connor took out another five-shilling note from his wallet and handed it to the coachman, saying apologetically.

"Sir, you're too kind!" The old coachman, carefully maneuvering the carriage, refused the money Connor offered, firmly stating, "Sir, I really can't take your money anymore. I don't even earn five shillings a day normally. If I take your money now, the Storm Goddess will surely condemn me!"

Upon hearing the old man mention the words "Storm Goddess," Connor's expression froze. He didn't insist any further, nodded, and put the banknotes back into his wallet.

Gazing out the car window at the blood-red setting sun, Connor fell into deep thought, his feelings a complex mix.

He needs to sort out all the information he knows.

First of all, Bispin and his mentor Reyes are members of a "secret society" dark wizard organization! Moreover, judging from the fact that Bispin always adds the word "sir" when referring to Reyes, Reyes holds a higher position in this secret society than Bispin, and is a high-ranking member of the secret society!

Perhaps because he knew Connor was Reyes's apprentice, Bispin didn't hide some information from Connor. He bluntly told Reyes that the small box Connor had given him contained medicine to treat Bispin and his men's injuries. He also gave Connor a briefcase to take back to Reyes.
