Chapter 68 The Heirs

Chapter 68 The Heirs

"ah·······"

After the initial impulse subsided and she regained her senses, Varga, like a frightened little rabbit, blushed and quickly broke free from Connor's embrace.

The two fell silent for a moment, realizing the atmosphere was a bit awkward. Connor whispered to Varga, "You go home first, I need to clean up the scene!"

"What are you going to do?" Varga asked in a low voice, somewhat puzzled.

"Although this place is relatively remote, it will still be troublesome if someone finds out. And this trash might have some relatives, friends, mentors or something... In short, we must destroy the evidence!" As he spoke, Connor dismembered the charred corpse into several parts and buried them in several inconspicuous places, then cleaned up the traces of the battle at the scene.

"Do you do this often?" Varga asked with a complicated expression, watching Connor's practiced movements.

Upon hearing Varga's words, Connor, who was cleaning up the scene, paused, turned around, and shrugged slightly, saying calmly, "In this dog-eat-dog world, too often, we have no choice in what we do!"

"If one's heart is not in control, how can one's body be in control?" Varga said softly.

A wry smile appeared on his face as Connor shook his head and continued his unfinished work.

After finishing everything in a short while, Connor waved to Varga, indicating that he could leave.

Instead of going to Varga's house on Sandro Street, the two inexplicably went to Green University.

Sitting side by side on a bench on the Green University campus, enjoying the cool air, the warm sunshine, and the lush greenery, Connor looked at Varga's delicate face and suddenly felt an urge to confide in her.

"Varga, do you know I'm on the path of a wizard? Damn it, someone wanted to kill me, so I had no choice but to take this path..." Connor said calmly, still maintaining a bit of rationality despite his impulsiveness.

Listening attentively to Connor's words, Varga asked with some confusion, "You are the Earl's heir..."

"So what if you're the Earl's heir? When it's your turn to die, you die!" Connor said with a sneer.

Seeing the undisguised ruthlessness on Connor's face, Varga took the jade bracelet off her wrist and handed it to Connor, saying, "Here, take this back!"

"What are you doing?" Connor frowned as he looked at the yellow jade bracelet that Varga handed him.

"At the party at the Borussia Mönchengladbach club just now, you recognized me, which is why you made a deal with me, right?" Varga said softly, brushing a stray strand of hair from her forehead.

Hearing Varga's words, Connor felt a pang of pity. He said earnestly, "Varga, as you just saw, I have other, higher-grade defensive enchanted items. I don't need the topaz bracelet anymore!" He hesitated for a moment before continuing, "Besides, Varga, let me tell you a secret: I'm an alchemist. If I want a topaz bracelet, I can make one anytime!"

"Thank you, Connor!" After hearing Connor's reason, Varga hesitated for a moment but did not insist on refusing Connor's kindness and thanked him sincerely.

"Haha, silly girl, you saved my life!" Seeing Varga's serious expression, Connor couldn't help but chuckle.

"You've saved me twice!" Varga whispered.

With a wave of his hand, Connor interrupted Varga, who was about to speak. "Listen, Varga, I don't care what you're doing buying these enchanted items, but I have two things to tell you. First, that rune dagger is a good thing, but with it and the topaz bracelet, you can only deal with novice apprentices at best. Also, when you're out and about, be careful not to flaunt your wealth!"

"The second thing is, no matter what happens, you must tell me!"

After Connor finished speaking, he saw Varga nod heavily, a smile appearing on his face. He gently stroked Varga's delicate nose, then turned and left.

Reason told Connor that he had to leave now, otherwise, under the influence of his emotions, he might reveal more secrets.

"Connor!"

Just as Connor reached the gate of Green University, preparing to take a public carriage back to his apartment, a very familiar voice called out from afar.

Turning around, he saw that the person who was waving at him was none other than his good buddy George. However, George was no longer the carefree guy he used to be; his face was dark, and it was clear that he was in a very bad mood.

"Connor, you don't have class today, what are you doing here? Never mind... come grab a drink with me!" George said, sounding a bit annoyed.

"It would be an honor!" Connor shrugged; he didn't have anything urgent to deal with today.

Sitting in George's luxurious private carriage, Connor, seeing that George didn't initiate the conversation, didn't ask any questions either.

Although George didn't say why he was upset, Connor, being an heir himself, could probably guess what was bothering him—it was nothing more than the matter of inheriting the family fortune.

Although George's father, Mr. Javier Sanchez, has publicly announced that George will be his first heir and has handed over some family businesses to George to handle, he has also taken the initiative to introduce George as his successor to his business partners on some important occasions.

But for George and the vast majority of the heirs, this didn't bring them complete security. They had several brothers and sisters in public, and countless more "brothers" in private! As long as things remained unsettled, they would live in constant fear, terrified that someone else would snatch their spoils!

The carriage stopped in front of a luxurious club called "Verona," and George and Connor immediately got off the carriage and went into the club.

The Verona Club is a rather private members-only club. It is a well-known money pit in Rune and even the western coast of the Kaman Empire. Countless nobles, wealthy merchants and others seek pleasure here and spend lavishly.

"Young Master George, you've arrived?" Connor and George entered the hall and saw a charming blonde woman walking towards them with a smile.

"Marina, get me a private room, and bring out all the good wine I have stored here. I'm not leaving until I'm drunk!" George forced a smile as he looked at the blonde beauty.

"Young Master George, no problem!" Nodding, the blonde beauty called Marina looked at Connor and smiled, "And this gentleman is..."

"My name is Connor Ferguson, a first-class member of the club. I was in such a hurry today that I forgot my membership card!" Connor said with a smile.
