Chapter 609 Revisiting the Valencia Chamber of Commerce
Seeing that Margaret seemed to really like the telescope, Connor shrugged helplessly, then took the telescope he had crafted back from Margaret. With a thought, he erased the mental imprint he had left on the telescope and handed it back to Margaret.
"Since you like it, I'll give it to you!" Connor said gently, a doting smile on his face.
"I'm so sorry!" Margaret said, though she was sorry, but her actions betrayed her words. She didn't stand on ceremony and simply accepted the binoculars from Connor.
Alchemy items like alchemical telescopes, while not technically difficult to craft, are merely auxiliary items. They offer no benefit to a wizard's training or combat. Therefore, ninety percent of orthodox alchemists have no interest in crafting such items.
The remaining 10% of alchemists, while capable of crafting telescopes, often lacked the necessary dedication, resulting in relatively mediocre telescopes. Connor, however, with the aid of an auxiliary chip, crafting simple alchemical items was not difficult, and he could even hone his alchemical skills. Therefore, Connor was quite willing to craft alchemical items like telescopes—items that, while offering no benefit to cultivation or combat, could be very useful in other situations.
The materials for the alchemical telescope are not precious. Connor currently has more than ten sets of materials in his spatial ring. So if Connor is willing to stay up for a few hours tonight, he can have a brand new alchemical telescope the next day. So under such circumstances, since Margaret likes it, how can Connor not satisfy her?
"There's something wrong with the doorman at the side gate of the Oria noodle factory!" After discussing the telescope issue, Margaret's smile faded, and she steered the conversation back to the purpose of her and Connor's visit.
Connor nodded slightly, agreeing with Margaret's assessment, and said, "That's right! I know the Secret Society's style of operation very well. The Secret Society would never so easily expose Tusam and Martina to an ordinary person!"
"Connor, perhaps we could try capturing this gatekeeper, and then you, Connor, use your mind-control technique on him to see what's in his memories!" Margaret suggested to Connor after a moment's thought.
Margaret's suggestion made Connor frown. To avoid upsetting Margaret, Connor carefully chose his words before speaking: "I think we can wait a bit longer. Before I make contact with my source, I think it's best not to alert them..."
Seeing that Connor didn't want to do that, Margaret pouted, but didn't say anything more. Instead, she looked at the distant Oyar Noodle Factory through the glass ship in front of her and said with some emotion, "The owner of the Oyar Noodle Factory is called Kancelo. I visited this noodle factory before I went to the Eye of the Storm and even presented him with a certificate of honor as a member of the Church of Storms. If I hadn't seen those two videos, I would have found it hard to believe that the Oyar Noodle Factory was actually one of your secret society's locations!"
Hearing Margaret's感慨 (sentiments/reflections), Connor's eyes flickered, and he said in a low, meaningful voice, "The Secret Society's influence in Rune is beyond imagination. For example, the Valencia Chamber of Commerce, the parent company behind the Oria Noodle Factory, has many connections with the Secret Society!"
"Connor, what did you say? The Valencia Chamber of Commerce is related to the Secret Society?" Margaret was very surprised by what Connor revealed. An incredulous look appeared in her beautiful eyes. She didn't expect that her casual remark would lead Connor to tell her such important information.
Seeing Margaret's reaction, Connor's lips curled into a playful smile, and he continued casually, "Remember that Ruiz steel factory? It also belongs to the Valencia Chamber of Commerce!"
Connor's words immediately brought back memories for Margaret. A few seconds later, she suddenly realized and said to Connor, "Oh, I see. If you hadn't reminded me, I really wouldn't have realized this... But it seems you already knew about this a long time ago, right?" After saying that, Margaret looked at Connor with a half-smile.
"Although I'm part of the Secret Society, I don't know many of its secrets. I only figured out the connection between the Valencia Chamber of Commerce and the Secret Society through the information you gave me!" Meeting Margaret's gaze, Connor shrugged helplessly and explained:
"Hmph!" Margaret gave a coquettish snort, seemingly dissatisfied with Connor's explanation. Then, she glared at Connor fiercely and said, "Connor Ferguson, you better tell me honestly, how many other things are you hiding from me?"
Although he knew Margaret was asking about the Secret Society, Connor's mind still subconsciously flashed with Varga's pretty face. His expression immediately froze, and a sense of guilt welled up inside him for having a girlfriend while chatting with other girls.
However, Connor was quite shrewd and had a strong mentality. His guilt vanished within seconds, and his expression quickly returned to normal. He didn't let Margaret notice his unease, and then casually said, "No! Really, no. I really don't know much about the Secret Society's secrets. The Valencia Merchant Guild's connection to the Secret Society is the only secret I know about it..."
Based on her years of experience working with Connor, Margaret didn't believe a word he said. However, since Connor didn't want to talk about it, she couldn't force him. So, she could only roll her eyes at him and continue to ask, "Connor, when you say the Secret Society and the Valencia Chamber of Commerce are connected, do you mean they have a cooperative relationship, or do you mean the Valencia Chamber of Commerce is simply controlled by the Secret Society?"
Faced with Margaret's question, Connor was slightly taken aback. He hadn't really considered the relationship between the Valencia Chamber of Commerce and the Secret Society. After all, for Connor, he only needed to know that the Secret Society and the Valencia Chamber of Commerce were related. As for whether the relationship between the two was one of cooperation or control, Connor didn't care much.
