Chapter 59 Miscalculation

Chapter 59 Miscalculation

"Excellent! Pablo, your conditions will be met. I must say, Pablo, you young man, have made a wise decision!" The old man clapped his hands and laughed.

Shaking his head helplessly, Pablo said in a low voice with a complicated expression, "I'll deliver the goods to you at the usual place at three o'clock tomorrow morning!"

"Young man, rest assured! I, Charles, am a merchant who values reputation above all else! After I receive the goods tomorrow, thirty gold pounds will be in your hands within twenty-four hours!" Patting Pablo on the shoulder, the old man smiled with satisfaction, leaned on his hand, and turned to leave.

However, the old man probably never imagined that at the bar about thirty meters away, a burly man with an unkempt appearance, who was gnawing on a pork chop, would suddenly shrink his pupils and become rapid in his breathing after hearing him call himself "Charles"!

"I've searched high and low without finding it, and now it's right here!" Connor thought to himself. He had already secretly used his mental power to examine Mr. Charles. Mr. Charles was an ordinary old man, not a wizard, but although he looked to be around sixty years old, his physical condition was still very good. According to the chip analysis, Mr. Charles possessed the strength of a formal knight.

With a rough smear of lard on his lips, Connor turned and left with a cold laugh. Now it was Connor Ferguson's turn to meet this all-powerful "Mr. Charles"!

Mr. Charles, unaware that bad luck had befallen him, was in a very good mood and casually gave a shilling to the waiter who opened the door for him.

"Thank you, sir, and welcome back again!" Amid the waiter's overjoyed thanks, Mr. Charles, with a faint smile on his face, leaned on his hand and stepped into the luxurious carriage that had been waiting for him at the door!

"Snapped!"

As Charles boarded the carriage, the well-dressed coachman flicked his whip and steered the carriage forward.

"A chip! Is there a suitable place to make a move along the path Charles took?" Connor silently followed behind the carriage, thinking to himself:

"Beep! According to the map of Rune City, the chip analysis indicates there is a private cemetery approximately 800 meters ahead!"

"A private cemetery?" A glint of light flashed in Connor's eyes. Cemeteries are already very remote, and being private, it's definitely the best place to make a move!

After following for almost another minute, Connor could see the outline of the private cemetery mentioned by the chip. Just as Connor had expected, the private cemetery was indeed deserted, with extremely heavy yin energy around it. Apart from the forest, no living creatures could be seen. However, just as Connor took a deep breath and prepared to go up and make a move, he found that the carriage carrying Charles had slowly stopped at the entrance of the private cemetery.

The unexpected situation made Connor hesitate. Although the place was already secluded enough, if Charles went inside, the concealment would be even greater if he made his move.

After a quick deliberation, Connor decided to make his move in the private cemetery. While keeping a mental lock on Charles to prevent losing him, Connor also silently crossed the fence and entered the cemetery.

"The grave of Luca Charles? The grave of Tom Charles?" Connor frowned as soon as he entered the cemetery and looked around at the tombstones. The owners of these tombstones all had one thing in common: they were all surnamed Charles. It was obvious that Connor was in the Charles family's private cemetery.

"Junior apprentice, as your elder, I have a suggestion for you: put your hands up!" Just as Connor was somewhat surprised by what he had discovered, an even more shocking scene unfolded: Mr. Charles, whom he considered "prey," appeared in front of him, holding a gun.

"Oh, right, I forgot to tell you, this gun isn't loaded with ordinary bullets, it's loaded with anti-magic bullets!" Seeing that Connor seemed stunned by his sudden appearance, Mr. Charles frowned and threatened again:

"Anti-magic bullets?" Connor muttered under his breath, slowly raising both hands as Mr. Charles had instructed. "How did you find me?"

"Apprentice, is this a question a prisoner should ask?" Mr. Charles smiled mockingly, aiming his gun at Connor's head, ready to pull the trigger.

"Is that so?" Just a second before Charles pulled the trigger, Connor's lips curled into a strange smile. The next instant, two daggers flew out of the sleeves of his trench coat and went straight for Mr. Charles's face!

Two daggers appeared before him. Mr. Charles reacted very calmly. He immediately clenched his fist with the hand that wasn't holding the gun, and a light purple shield appeared in front of him. Seemingly very confident in the shield in front of him, Mr. Charles breathed a sigh of relief and immediately fired two shots at Connor.

"Bang! Bang!"

However, during the brief moment when Charles released the purple light shield, Connor had already moved away, and both silver bullets fired from Charles's revolver missed their targets.

With a pang of heartache, Charles glanced at the Demon-Slaying Bullet that had flown off to who-knows-where, and then carefully searched the graveyard for any trace of Connor.

Hiding behind a tombstone, Connor had a sudden thought. He used his mental power to control two shadow daggers, one on the left and one on the right, and stabbed at Charles.

Honestly, Connor was filled with remorse. Damn it, he'd been careless! He hadn't considered that a black market merchant like Charles wouldn't be easy to deal with. He definitely had something valuable! If Connor's guess was correct, the light shield Charles had released was likely a magical item, and of a high grade. Moreover, Connor had a feeling that Charles possessed even more treasures!

"Thump! Thump!"

Charles was incredibly fierce, manipulating the purple light shield in his hand to smash Connor's shadow dagger away!

"You little mouse, where are you hiding? Come out now, or if I catch you, I'll show you what cruelty is, hahaha!" Charles, wielding a purple light shield, roared madly.

Hiding behind the tombstone, Connor's expression was somber, and a trace of blood spilled from the corner of his mouth. The Shadow Dagger he controlled was connected to his mental power, and any damage to the Shadow Dagger would, to some extent, affect Connor through his mental power.

Silently retrieving the shadow dagger that had been knocked away, Connor carefully used his mental power to try to confirm once again that Charles was just a mortal.
