Chapter 55 Goodbye Vallejo
Chapter 55 Goodbye Vallejo
Despite being poked in the face, Vallejo's smile didn't diminish; instead, it grew even brighter.
"I am truly grateful to Your Excellency for your patronage!" Vallejo immediately stood at attention, bowed deeply to Sir Sari with a solemn expression, and then leaned close to Sir Sari's ear to whisper, "Your Excellency, that was just an appetizer. I will repay you handsomely after this is done. A friend recently gifted me a pair of beautiful Perseid sisters… I'm sure they won't disappoint you!"
No sooner had Vallejo finished speaking than Sir Sarri's cloudy eyes flashed with a sharp light, as if he were seeing again his glorious days of "riding on horseback and displaying his prowess"!
Sir Alex Ferguson patted Vallejo heavily on the shoulder and said in a deep voice, "Wait for my good news!"
"I'm really looking forward to it!" Vallejo bowed his head respectfully.
"Da da da da..."
Watching the carriage carrying Lord Sari gradually disappear into the distance, Vallejo's lips curled into a disdainful smile. "Old lecher! That kind of thing can become a nobleman? This empire is truly hopeless!"
Vallejo was in high spirits after receiving Sir Sari's promise. He turned around and went straight back to the Bournemouth Grand Hotel behind him. He hadn't eaten much while he was with that old lecher Sari, as he had spent all his energy trying to please the old man. Now that things were about to succeed, he was going to treat himself.
Returning to his luxurious private room, Mr. Vallejo, in high spirits, was about to order a feast and, with the addition of several beautiful women, discuss lofty and grand goals like "life's ideals," when he heard a hoarse voice from inside the room: "Mr. Vallejo, you truly have extraordinary connections and extensive networks! Even Sir Sari, a director of the Valencia Chamber of Commerce, is willing to serve you!"
"Who?" The sound of that raspy voice immediately made Vallejo's heart skip a beat. He immediately drew a revolver from his waist and looked warily at a chair in the corner of the room.
"Mr. Vallejo, don't be nervous. I don't want to know what you and Lord Sari are up to, or what kind of dirty business you're involved in. I've come here today simply to do some business with you!" Under Vallejo's gaze, a man in a black robe, whose entire body was covered by a black robe, slowly stood up from a chair in the corner of the room.
Through the black robe, a hint of curiosity appeared on Connor's face. Clearly, he wasn't as uninterested as he had just said. Although he knew that Vallejo must have an extensive network of connections in this line of work, Connor still felt a little out of place seeing him standing with Sir Sari.
The Valencia Chamber of Commerce is one of the top three chambers of commerce in Loen and even the entire western coast of the empire. According to Loen's publicly available financial reports, the Valencia Chamber of Commerce has contributed five percent of the total tax revenue of the entire Loen region for seven consecutive years. As a director of such a behemoth, Lord Sari is also a prominent figure in Loen. If Connor remembers correctly, Lord Sari even holds an advisory position at the Sanchez Bank, which is controlled by the George family.
Connor still had a very deep impression of this Lord Surrey. Last time at Eibar Manor, at Mr. Xavi's birthday banquet, when Connor was toasting Mr. Xavi, this old guy took advantage of his age and forced Connor to drink several more glasses of strong vodka. If Connor hadn't been a formal knight with abnormal physical fitness, he would definitely have been drunk by this old guy! He never expected that Lord Surrey would be so close to Vallejo, this black market merchant.
Although the man in black robes before him said he wasn't interested in him or Lord Sari, but only wanted to make a deal, Vallejo didn't relax. He focused his gaze, trying to make out the man's face, and said calmly, "Want to do business with me? You'll be disappointed. It's after get off work hours. If you have any business to discuss, please come to my company tomorrow!"
Vallejo's efforts paid off to some extent; he could vaguely see the face with a full beard under the black robe. However, upon seeing this, Vallejo frowned inwardly. His years of experience navigating both the underworld and legitimate society told him that the face of the man in black was definitely disguised.
Connor took in all of Vallejo's little tricks, but he did nothing to stop him. Since he had found Vallejo, this "vampire," again, he was naturally prepared. In fact, when he arrived, Connor put on a wig and a beard... In addition to making changes to his face, Connor even used some techniques of the Knight's Breathing Method to make his voice hoarse in order to prevent Vallejo from discovering any flaws in his voice.
Connor believed that even if the person standing in front of him now was not Vallejo but George, he would definitely not recognize him. Without this confidence, how could the usually cautious Connor have appeared so openly in front of Vallejo?
"Tsk tsk tsk, going to your company, Mr. Vallejo, for a detailed discussion? Are you sure this thing can appear in your company?" With a sneer, Connor waved his hand and threw a tightly packaged small wooden box at Vallejo.
A hint of hesitation flashed across his face, but in the end, Mr. Vallejo chose to take the small wooden box that was offered to him. Although he took the box, Vallejo did not open it, but instead scrutinized the man in black robes in front of him with his eyes.
Seeing Vallejo's actions, Connor chuckled, shrugged, and continued, "If Mr. Vallejo doesn't even have the courage to open the box, then it proves I chose the wrong person. Mr. Vallejo can choose to return the box to me, and I promise I will leave immediately. You can pretend I was never here!"
"Heh, do you think this is a place you can come and go as you please?" A cold glint flashed in his eyes as Vallejo raised his gun, aimed it at the man in black before him, and shouted sternly:
Connor felt no fear at Vallejo's pointed gun, which seemed poised to shoot him at any moment. Instead, he shook his head and said calmly, "Believe me, Mr. Vallejo, you're playing with your life. Your best, and only, choice is to put the gun down and open your eyes to see what's in the box. A revolver and the anti-magic bullets in its chamber can't change anything in the face of absolute power!"
