Chapter 478 The Secret Society's Mission

Chapter 478 The Secret Society's Mission

"Long time no see, Martina!" Connor greeted the icy beauty sitting in front of him with a smile. Indeed, the woman who appeared was Martina, his old acquaintance and assistant to old Victor. Although he didn't know how Martina saw through his disguise and discovered him, now that she was sitting in front of him, pretending not to know her would only make him a laughingstock.

Martina was unmoved by Connor's small talk. She had no intention of wasting words with him and simply took out a file folder and tossed it onto the table between her and Connor.

Connor glanced at Martina's frosty face, then at the file folder on the table, a playful smile appearing on his face. He picked up the folder; inside were several sheets of notes. After reading through their contents, Connor's smile vanished. He slammed the notes heavily on the table and said to Martina in a grim tone, "Very well, you're ruthless!"

"Butler Victor, we want you to complete the mission assigned to you by the organization. If you refuse, then the plan you see will become a reality. You should be well aware that implementing this plan will pose no difficulty for the secret society, and the impact it will have on you personally and on your Ferguson family!" Ignoring the hostility in Connor's words, Martina remained calm and coldly continued:

A hint of murderous intent flashed in his eyes, but Connor immediately concealed it. He snapped his fingers and called over a waiter from the bar.

"Sir, what would you like to order?" A refined-looking blond waiter approached Connor and politely inquired.

"A glass of Lawrencesburg whisky, with two ice cubes!" Connor said, pulling a one-shilling note from his wallet and handing it to the waiter.

"Yes, sir!" Taking the shilling from Connor, the blond waiter casually asked Martina, who was sitting opposite Connor, "Miss, what would you like to drink?"

Before Martina could speak, Connor made the decision for her, waving his hand roughly and saying, "She won't drink anything!"

"Black Glory, one glass, no ice!" Just as the blond waiter, seeing Connor's unfriendly attitude, was wisely preparing to leave, Martina suddenly spoke up:

After Martina placed her order, the blond waiter glanced at Connor, and for some reason, Connor, who seemed to love him, also looked at the waiter. They stood there awkwardly for a couple of seconds before the blond waiter quietly reminded Connor, "Sir, your companion ordered Black Glory, our bar's most expensive drink, which costs one gold pound and two shillings a glass. Combined with your whiskey, the total is one gold pound and three shillings!"

After the blond waiter finished speaking, Connor noticed that half of the men in the bar were looking at him and Martina, either discreetly or directly. Their eyes seemed to say, "Bringing such a beautiful girl out to play, and you're not willing to spend money?"

Looking at Martina in front of him, who seemed to have done nothing, Connor, concerned about his image, suppressed his indignation and took out another pound and two shillings from his wallet, handing it to the waiter.

"Thank you, sir. Your drinks and this lady's will be ready shortly!" The blond waiter, having received the money, smiled and bowed as he returned to the bar.

"You guys were behind the murder of Jane Adele, weren't you?" Without bothering to argue about the cost of the drinks, Connor pressed Martina again.

"That was done by those monsters. Butler Victor told me to tell you that it was just an appetizer. If you don't want everyone in Rune to know that Connor, the heir of the Ferguson family, is a sadistic serial killer, you'd better obediently accept the task he assigned you!" Martina said expressionlessly. Although her tone was still icy, when she said the word "monsters," Connor could clearly catch a trace of disgust in Martina's eyes.

"A demonized knight!" Seeing the disgust and loathing in Martina's eyes, Connor immediately knew the answer.

"Fine, I give up. So, what mission did old Victor assign me?" Connor leaned back in his chair, shrugged, and said with a very straightforward attitude:

"Sir, your drinks are here!" Just as Martina was about to speak, the blond waiter from before came over with a tray and placed the drinks in front of Connor and Martina. After doing this, he didn't leave immediately, but instead looked at Connor with a friendly smile. Only when Connor took out another one-shilling note from his wallet as a tip and handed it to him did the blond waiter politely say, "Enjoy your meal!" After saying that, he took the tip and turned to serve the customers next to him.

"He's not one of yours?" Martina asked abruptly, glancing at the blond waiter.

"What do you think?" Connor asked irritably, taking a large gulp of the golden whiskey in front of him.

Upon hearing this, Martina didn't say anything more. She took a sip of the Black Glory in front of her, which cost dozens of times more than the whiskey Connor had ordered, and then took out another envelope and placed it on the table, saying, "You know how to use this stuff. Be on standby for the next week."

After saying that, Martina turned around, stood up from her seat, and walked out of the bar, leaving Connor alone, bewildered in the wind. The four dark wizards who had appeared at the beginning also left with Martina.

Picking up the envelope Martina had placed on the table, Connor tossed it a couple of times and knew what was inside. Glancing at the blond waiter serving others, Connor turned and walked out of the bar, disappearing into the bustling traffic of Rand Street.

In the evening, Connor was in his safe house on Ramsay Street in the North End. He was leaning back on a soft sofa, enjoying the warmth from the roaring fireplace, while squinting and fiddling with a piece of paper in his hand.

Martina told him to be on standby for a week, and Margaret told him to protect her secretly in the near future. The high degree of overlap between these two events, coupled with the highly related figures of Eder and old Victor, and the task that old Victor insisted on giving him, made Connor feel that he had reason to believe that the task old Victor was going to assign him was to kill Margaret!

Connor thought about it more and more and felt that this idea was very likely. Although Edel was the Bishop of Rune, Margaret was Cardinal Elena's person. If Edel wanted to get rid of Margaret, he absolutely could not use his own people, otherwise Elena might be able to find out something about him.
