Chapter 459 The Mysterious "Target"
Chapter 459 The Mysterious "Target"
According to Connor, the secret departments of the Kaman Empire are basically divided into two main types. The first is the Ninth Bureau under the Imperial Royal Family. The name seems simple, but this organization is a terrifying intelligence agency in the ears of black wizards. The Ninth Bureau is responsible for maintaining the royal family's prestigious status in the Kaman Empire. Once a black wizard is caught by the Ninth Bureau, death may be more desirable than life. Because Rune, where Connor is located, is the traditional sphere of influence of the Storm Church, the Ninth Bureau in Rune is very low-key, so low-key that it is easy to overlook the existence of this organization. Therefore, Connor does not know much about this organization. He only knows that the Ninth Bureau has many subordinate agencies. The "Hunters" stationed at Rune Railway Station are a branch of the Ninth Bureau.
Besides the Ninth Bureau, another secret department of the Kaman Empire is the military's secret department. Compared to the already low-profile Ninth Bureau, the military's secret department is even more low-profile, so much so that even Connor and his colleagues don't know the name of their department; they only know that it exists.
Now, "Uncle Gigi" and "Rabiot," who are very likely members of the rumored secret military department, are undoubtedly more attractive to Connor than the Storm Church Arbitrator sitting in front of the waiting room, with whom he has already dealt countless times.
Judging from the telepathic communication between the two, it seems that the four intermediate wizard apprentices, namely the arbitrators Mr. and Mrs. Smith from the Church of Storms, Uncle Gigi, and Rabiot, were all waiting for one person, a junior wizard apprentice with an unusual identity. This made Connor curious about who this person was.
Just as Connor was secretly speculating, the middle-aged man in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Uncle Gigi suddenly froze, then each took out a notebook and a pocket watch from their pockets and looked down at them.
A few seconds later, the middle-aged man from the Smiths family reacted first, exchanging a glance with the middle-aged woman. The couple then walked out of the waiting room hand in hand. Just as Connor frowned slightly, somewhat confused about what had happened, his mental power once again overheard Uncle Gigi's telepathic communication with Rabiot:
"Let's go. The target has appeared in Rune. There's a freight train to Rune that passes through Tunguska in ten minutes. His Excellency the General has instructed me to take this train to Rune."
After receiving Uncle Gigi's telepathic message, Rabiot nodded and followed Uncle Gigi out of the waiting room.
With a wry smile, Connor touched his nose, pulled out his train ticket from Tunguska to Rune for ten minutes from his pocket, and shook his head helplessly.
Fifteen minutes later, Connor, sitting on the train, looked around his carriage and was relieved to find that it wasn't such a coincidence. There was no sign of the old man and the young girl in his carriage; it seemed they had been assigned to another carriage.
While Connor was still unaware of what was happening, hundreds of miles away in the East District of Rune, in a conference room of the New Storm Cathedral, the high-ranking members of the Rune Storm Church were having a meeting.
"Ms. Lena, can your intelligence department confirm that the target has entered the city of Luen?" Bishop Edel, sitting in the main seat, asked Ms. Lena, who was sitting in the first seat to his right, with great seriousness. When he said the word "target," Edel raised his voice slightly.
"Yes, Your Excellency, the intelligence department is certain that the target has entered Rune. The Eye of the Storm has captured some footage for your perusal!" The elegantly dressed and intellectually sophisticated Ms. Lena, upon hearing Edel's question, immediately took out a pre-prepared crystal ball the size of a pebble from her spatial ring and handed it to Edel.
Taking the crystal ball from Lena's hand, Edel immediately immersed himself in it with his mental energy to examine it. After a minute, Edel withdrew his mental energy from the crystal ball, nodded, and placed it into his spatial ring. Then, he turned to Langley, who was sitting upright to his left, and said:
"Commander Langley, the target has entered Rune. After the meeting, discuss with Ms. Lena and then begin monitoring the target. Do not move against the target for now. Wait for my order before you act! Oh, and there's something else. It seems the military has also taken notice of the target. They've sent two intermediate wizard apprentices who are currently heading towards Rune from Tunguska. Keep these two under surveillance and prevent them from interfering with our operations. Try to avoid conflict with them, but if they act recklessly, as long as you don't kill them, that's fine. Do you understand?" After saying this, Edel cast an inquiring glance at Langley.
"I understand Your Excellency's meaning, and I will take care of it!" Hearing Edel's question, Longley replied expressionlessly.
Having received a positive answer from Lenglet, Edel appeared satisfied. He shifted his attention from Lenglet to everyone in the conference room, and after a moment's thought, said very seriously, "What happened today is top secret. I don't want to hear any unauthorized conversations outside. Anyone who violates this rule will be severely punished. Does everyone understand?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Edel's gaze swept over everyone in the conference room. Under Edel's gaze, all the high-ranking members of the Church of Rune Storm nodded without exception, indicating that they understood what Edel meant.
"Very good! That's all for today, everyone can go!" Edel glanced around at everyone, nodded with satisfaction, and waved for them to leave. However, just as Margaret, sitting at the back of the conference room, was about to leave, she heard Edel's voice: "Margaret, wait a moment, I have something to give you!"
Although she didn't know why Edel wanted to see her, Margaret still had to obey the bishop's orders, so she turned around and sat back down in her seat in the conference room with some confusion.
After everyone else in the meeting room had left, Edel slowly spoke to Margaret, "Margaret, put your work aside for a moment. I have a very important task for you. Have you heard of the Skull and Bones Society?"
"I have some recollection of them. They seem to be a dark wizarding organization from the Hoy New World. The organization is growing rapidly, and their leader, the Skeleton King, is rumored to be a second-level wizard. Your Excellency, is the task you're assigning me related to them?" Margaret pondered for a moment before answering Edel.
