Chapter 412 The January Promise

Chapter 412 The One-Month Agreement

Seeing the girl he once held in his arms in this state, even Connor, with his heart of stone, felt a pang of pity. He silently took out a silk handkerchief from his spatial ring and handed it over.

Varga glared fiercely at Connor, then took the handkerchief and wiped her tears. After a long while, once she had calmed down, Varga held up one finger to Connor and said firmly, "One month! Connor, give me one month. After one month, no matter what you ask me, I will tell you!"

Seeing that Varga had taken the initiative to make a one-month agreement with him, Connor's expression softened, and he nodded, saying, "Then I'll look forward to a month from now!"

After the January agreement was made, the issue of "trust" between Connor and Varga was considered resolved. Varga took out a portrait of a woman from her spatial ring, opened it, and showed it to Connor, saying, "Have you seen this woman, Connor?"

Looking at the stunningly beautiful woman in the oil painting, Connor touched his nose and asked, "Is this Martina?"

"That's right, her name is Martina Conti. Like you, Connor, she's a high-level wizard apprentice and a direct descendant of Conti, the former number three figure in the Secret Society. She was previously active on the continent of Hoy, but was recently transferred to Rune by the Secret Society. She possesses a second-tier combined enchanted item bestowed upon her by the Secret Society, making her very powerful. She's one of Old Victor's two main assistants in Rune!"

"Connor, you must be careful of this woman. If old Victor tries to harm you, this woman will most likely join in. I will find out the power of Martina's second-tier combined enchanted item as soon as possible!" Varga said to Connor very seriously.

Varga's attitude was very serious and earnest. However, what caught Connor's attention was that when Varga mentioned Martina's name, although she could be seen to be very restrained, there was still a hint of disgust in her words, as if her interaction with Martina was not very pleasant.

"Ahem..." Connor coughed and said somewhat awkwardly, "Valga, you don't need to figure out what the power of Martina's second-tier combined enchanted item is. It's a pair of jade bracelets, one that can control ice and the other that can control lightning."

"Connor, how do you know so much about it?" Varga asked, somewhat puzzled, upon hearing that Connor was so familiar with the power of Martina's combined magical artifacts.

"When I first became a senior wizard apprentice, I had a little scuffle with Martina and we got into a fight!" Connor didn't go into details, just glossing over it.

When Varga saw that Connor already knew the information she had gone to great lengths to obtain, and even knew more details than she did, a look of disappointment appeared on her face.

Seeing Varga like this, Connor, who had been hesitant about whether to tell Martina that he and Martina had been in the same room and working together on alchemy just a few days ago, immediately chose to keep it a secret.

"Valga, you said Martina is one of Old Victor's two main assistants, so who is the other one besides Martina?" Connor asked Varga, seemingly remembering something.

Varga shook her head, looking troubled, and said, "Another assistant of old Victor, I only know that he exists, but this person is very mysterious. I have never met him, and I only know that he is only at the intermediate wizard apprentice level!"

"That's quite interesting!" Connor's face showed surprise when he heard that this other assistant, who was on par with Martina, only had the cultivation of a mid-level wizard apprentice. He had experienced Martina's strength firsthand, so it wasn't surprising that she became Old Victor's assistant. However, the fact that a mid-level wizard apprentice could become Old Victor's assistant alongside her clearly showed that this mysterious assistant of Old Victor was not simple!

Putting on the green gloves Varga gave him, Connor picked up the poison pill Varga had given him to kill old Victor. After examining it carefully once more, he said calmly, "Old Victor is my mentor's butler. He has served my mentor for many years and has a wealth of experience..."

Although Connor spoke plainly, Varga clearly understood his meaning and said without hesitation, "I found the method for making the Primal Poison Pill in a very ancient and secret Byzantine manuscript. Before I found it, the Primal Poison Pill had been lost for thousands of years, and..."

When she said "moreover," Varga's voice paused noticeably, as if she hesitated about what to say next. However, under Connor's gaze, Varga finally made up her mind and said softly, "Teacher Gulsi died from the Primal Poison Pill. If Teacher Gulsi hadn't failed to break through to become a formal wizard, with her potion-making skills, becoming a Grand Apothecary would have been no problem at all. She didn't even detect the Primal Poison Pill. Even with his extensive experience, old Victor would have fallen victim to it!"

After glancing at Varga and then at the "Primal Poison Pill" in his hand, Connor understood why Gulsi's death was so bizarre. Gulsi's death had puzzled him greatly. How could a high-ranking wizard fall from an enchanted object while he was running away?

It was obvious that someone had used underhanded tactics. Although it was certain that Varga was behind it, Connor was still very puzzled as to how she had done it. But now Varga had provided the answer: when Dr. Gulsi was running away, she must have used all her magic, so the toxicity of the Primal Poison Pill entered her heart, causing her to die instantly. That's why she fell off the enchanted object.

Varga was right. No matter how experienced Old Victor was, he couldn't possibly be compared to Dr. Gulsi, who had been immersed in the world of potions his whole life, when it came to discerning the nature of poisons. Even Dr. Gulsi was tricked by the Primal Poison Pill, so there was no way Old Victor could have been out of the loop!

After explaining everything, Connor and Varga fell silent once more. This time, however, it was Connor who broke the silence. He took two small boxes from his spatial ring and pushed them towards Varga, saying in a deep voice, "These two boxes contain crystal-alloy bombs. Use them for self-defense!"

Taking the two small boxes from Connor and placing them into her spatial ring, Varga finally smiled. She reminded Connor again, "See you at the safe house in a month!"
