Chapter 407 Speculation
Chapter 407 Speculation
"It seems your relationship with Martina has improved, Connor?" Old Victor asked with interest, watching Connor closely.
"Perhaps!" Connor shook his head, giving a somewhat ambiguous answer.
During these twenty days, Connor's preparations were certainly not unnecessary. Martina twice sought his help to resolve her problems. In both instances, Connor didn't believe that Martina was genuinely facing an unsolvable problem with the tempered metal bricks and seeking his assistance. Instead, he wanted to subtly inquire about mental manipulation. Fortunately, Martina wasn't foolish enough to try and secretly eavesdrop on Connor's small house. Otherwise, the little tricks Connor had set up would have definitely given Martina a good show.
"Lord Southgate, has he granted my request?" After Martina left, only Connor and old Victor remained in the alchemy lab. Before old Victor could speak, Connor asked the question directly.
"I regret to inform you that Lord Southgate has refused your request!" Connor asked bluntly, and old Victor's reply was equally straightforward, without any hesitation.
Connor was not surprised by old Victor's answer. When he made the request, he had not yet realized the unusual nature of the metal brick. Once he discovered its value, Connor immediately understood that old Victor's promise to tell Southgate about his request might have been just an excuse. However, even if old Victor had told Southgate about his request, Southgate would most likely not have agreed.
Having processed these metal bricks for nearly a month, Connor still couldn't determine what these five metal bricks were or what their purpose was. However, Connor was certain of two things: first, the five metal bricks he had inscribed with runes were merely a part of some alchemical item; second, if the alchemical item crafted by Southgate was an enchanted item, it was at least a Tier 3 enchanted item!
While a Grand Alchemist like Southgate could craft a Tier 3 enchanted item, it was by no means an easy task. Crafting a Tier 3 enchanted item required the use of one or more secret techniques, which were obviously not something that other alchemists could easily see.
"What will I get in return?" Connor asked old Victor with a calm expression. He had been working day and night for so long and was so exhausted. He should be given some other compensation for not being allowed to watch the Southgate forging process!
Handing Connor two booklets, old Victor said, "These are the secret society's books and alchemical materials I can access. You can choose three items from them. Don't rush; take them home and choose carefully. Just give me your answer in a week. Put your selections along with these two booklets in the mailbox at the professor's villa at Green University, and I'll arrange for them to be delivered to your apartment!"
"Okay!" Connor took the two booklets from old Victor, glanced at them briefly, and nodded in satisfaction. Although he didn't know what he would choose, each item listed in the booklet was quite valuable. If he could choose any three, it would really be worth the effort.
"I'll have a carriage take you!" Without any intention of being polite to Connor, old Victor directly arranged Connor's departure.
Ten minutes later, Connor slowly drove out of the manor in the same black carriage he had come in. He was also wearing the bracelet that could interfere with his mental power. However, when he came in, Martina was with him in the carriage, but now the carriage contained a large, heavy-looking box.
As Connor's eyes swept over the large box, a fleeting glint of light flashed in them. If he wasn't mistaken, the large box was also made of an alloy. Moreover, from Connor's perspective, the alloy used in this large box looked somewhat similar to the metal bricks on which he had inscribed siphon runes using mental manipulation in the alchemy laboratory in the manor.
The carriage continued its journey forward. Just as Connor hesitated about whether to inspect the large box, a clear, cold voice from the auxiliary chip suddenly echoed in his mind:
"Beep! The auxiliary chip has detected an abnormal spatial energy level around the subject, several times higher than normal! The subject is advised to remain vigilant!"
"Just as I thought!" Upon hearing the auxiliary chip's notification, Connor's attention instantly shifted from the mysterious alloy box beside him, and he sneered inwardly:
Connor always believed in the saying that if you eliminate all impossibilities, the answer you get, even if it seems absurd, is the truth.
After discovering that he was in what appeared to be the Norwich Forest, Connor found it hard to believe that just over an hour ago he was in Loen, and now he was in the Norwich Forest, more than 300 kilometers away. However, when he compared the vegetation and climate of the Norwich Forest recorded in the auxiliary chip's database with what he saw in the forest, which showed a 100% similarity of 89.7%, Connor had to begin to believe that the black, enchanted carriage had indeed traversed 300 kilometers in just over an hour!
After confirming the facts, Connor began to wonder what kind of seemingly unremarkable black carriage could accomplish something that even the world's fastest train, the Saint-Raul, which travels at 20 kilometers per hour, could not.
As an alchemist, Connor thought long and hard and concluded that there was only one way for the black carriage to do this: a spatial teleportation array!
Using spatial teleportation arrays can drastically reduce travel time. A journey that would take hours or even days by train could be completed in a minute with a spatial teleportation array. However, while these arrays are incredibly useful, large-scale use is simply impossible. First, constructing a spatial teleportation array requires a highly skilled alchemist with expertise in array formations and spatial manipulation; even then, it would take several months to complete. Second, the materials needed to build such an array are extremely rare, and using it after the hard work of construction consumes a massive amount of magic stones!
