Chapter 389 Varga's Guarantee
Chapter 389 Varga's Guarantee
With the words "See you at the safe house tomorrow" in mind, Connor, his expression complex, fell into deep thought. There was no doubt that the letter was written by Varga.
Since the unpleasant parting after the attack on Dr. Gulsi, nearly two months have passed, and Connor and Varga have not even met or contacted each other. This letter from Varga is their first exchange since the attack on Gulsi!
A glance at the envelope revealed that it had been mailed yesterday. Because Connor had been fully focused on absorbing the effects of the Candice Energy Potion for the previous three days, he only saw this letter today, even though he should have seen it yesterday.
After a moment's hesitation, Connor made up his mind, straightened his clothes, put on a black cashmere coat, donned his bowler hat, and walked out of his apartment.
Connor was curious to see what Varga wanted to see him for, and what she had to say!
Even if it means the two of you are going to separate completely, you go your way and I'll go mine, at least you should talk it out face to face!
After wandering around the city of Rune a couple of times to make sure no one was following him, Connor quietly made his way to the safe house.
Standing outside the safe house, Connor took a deep breath, slowly activated the magic circle he had set up in the safe house, and entered the safe house.
Upon entering the safe house, Connor's first sight was Varga, dressed in a long white dress. Compared to before, Varga looked much more haggard. She stood at the door, pursing her lips and staring intently at Connor, appearing quite pitiful.
Seeing his beloved daughter, whom he used to hold in his arms, in this state, even Connor, with his heart of stone, couldn't help but feel a pang of pity. Although he was touched, Connor didn't show his emotions on his face. He glanced at Varga, then lowered his head and walked silently into the quiet room in the safe house.
Connor's appearance initially brought a hint of excitement to Varga's face, but sensing Connor's silence, the excitement on Varga's face disappeared. She silently followed Connor into the quiet room, where the two sat facing each other. Varga stared at Connor, while Connor lowered his head, and an eerie silence fell between them.
"This is a potion I made for you to treat the energy backlash you suffered that day..." The silence lasted for a full half hour before Varga broke the awkward silence by taking out five bottles of potions from her spatial ring. However, Varga paused halfway through her sentence and looked at Connor, who was sitting opposite her without saying a word.
Her eyes immediately reddened, and she said with a sad smile, "But with something like the Candice Energy Potion, you probably won't need the potions I make anymore..."
Upon hearing Varga utter the name "Candides Energy Potion," Connor's expression immediately changed. He looked up at Varga and coldly said, "You're spying on me?"
"No! How could I possibly spy on you?" Varga shook her head, explaining with a hint of grievance, "Connor, you must have just finished digesting the Candice Energy Potion, right? The scent of the Candice Energy Potion still lingers on you. The advanced meditation technique the Secret Society taught me is specifically designed for alchemists. For alchemists, practicing this meditation technique has many amazing benefits, one of which is that it makes me extremely sensitive to the scent of potions!"
"But don't worry, the scent of the potion on your body is extremely faint. If it weren't for my special meditation method, I wouldn't be able to sense it either. And in a few hours, the Candice Energy Potion on your body will completely dissipate!"
Hearing Varga's explanation, Connor's expression softened considerably. His connection with Margaret was absolutely not to be known by outsiders, otherwise both he and Margaret would be in mortal danger!
Seeing Varga's aggrieved expression and the resentment in her eyes, Connor felt a sudden surge of irritation. Shouldn't he be the one being deceived and used by her? Instead, it seemed as if he was the one who had betrayed Varga and done something wrong.
Thinking of this, a surge of anger rushed to his head, and Connor, somewhat losing control of his emotions, looked up into Varga's eyes and said in a deep voice, "Did you invite me here this time because you need me to kill someone else?"
"Whom do you want me to kill?"
Hearing Connor's somewhat defiant words, Varga, who was already feeling very resentful and aggrieved, could no longer hold back her tears, and two lines of clear tears immediately streamed down her delicate face.
Seeing Varga like this, Connor felt a pang of pity once again, and the anger in his heart dissipated considerably.
Just as Connor hesitated about whether to say anything more, Varga wiped away her tears and said to Connor with a hint of resentment, "I admit there are some things I've hidden from you, Connor, but it's definitely not what you imagine!"
Upon hearing what Varga said, Connor's heart skipped a beat, and his attention was completely focused on Varga. Could it be that Varga had come to him today because she wanted to be honest with him about everything?
Upon noticing Connor's actions, Varga, sitting in the quiet room, showed a clear hint of hesitation on her delicate face. However, to Connor's great disappointment, Varga ultimately did not choose to be honest. Instead, she shook her head bitterly and then spoke to Connor with genuine feeling:
"I'm sorry, Connor, I can't tell you everything right now, but I can assure you one hundred percent that I have never had any intention of using you. I have never done anything to harm you, nor will I do anything to do so now or in the future!"
With a sigh to himself, Connor gave Varga a deep look without saying anything more, then turned and walked out of the safe house, leaving Varga alone, looking lost and dejected.
Back in his apartment, leaning against the sofa, Connor was filled with disappointment. He had trusted Varga's promises implicitly, and he refused to believe that the first woman in his life would betray him…
However, Connor's mindset had already made up his mind about this matter. Connor could not accept that his bedmate had a secret about him. Perhaps it wasn't necessary yet, but maintaining a certain distance from Varga was imperative.
