Chapter 348 Trouble is Coming

Just as Connor was deep in thought about old Victor's purpose, his expression suddenly changed. He sensed an extremely familiar aura silently approaching the back garden of his apartment...

"Margaret, what's she doing here?" Connor muttered to himself, though he didn't know why Margaret had come, but there was no doubt that the aura he was experiencing belonged to Margaret.

Connor retrieved a new robe from his spatial ring and, with a flick of his fingers, changed out of his current clothes and into the new one. Because he was currently crafting an alchemical bomb, his original robe, while still relatively clean, was completely tainted with the smell of sulfur. Wearing that robe to see Margaret would make it obvious he was working on an alchemical bomb.

After changing into his new long-distance running gear, Connor checked himself over and found no trace of sulfur. He nodded in satisfaction, then withdrew his spiritual fire, put the alchemy furnace back into his spatial ring, and went downstairs to meet Margaret, who was already in the hall.

"Long time no see!" Connor greeted Margaret with a smile as he descended the stairs, looking at her still elegant and graceful figure in her magnificent purple robe.

"Connor, you can still laugh now?" After glancing at the smile on Connor's face, Margaret's stunningly beautiful face immediately showed a half-smile.

Sensing Margaret's alarming tone and seeing the expression on her face, Connor shrugged dismissively and said, "What else?"

"Looks like you still don't know what happened. Good luck!" Margaret sneered at Connor's nonchalant attitude and got up as if to leave!

Seeing Margaret's unusual behavior, Connor finally sensed danger. He stepped in front of her, stopped her, and asked with a frown, "What happened?"

"Get out of my way!" Margaret seemed to still be angry with Connor and completely ignored him. She still made a move to leave, but although she said she was leaving, she did not actually do anything. Obviously, she was just saying it, but her actions were still honest.

"Hehe, I was wrong, I was wrong, okay?" Although he didn't know what was wrong with Margaret, in order to figure out what Margaret was going to say this time, Connor still coaxed Margaret like he coaxed Varga.

Varga seemed to appreciate Connor's approach, her expression softening considerably, and she reluctantly returned to the sofa in the apartment.

"A month ago, the church headquarters rejected Bishop Edel's nomination for the leader of the Rune Arbitrators. Leaning back on the sofa in the hall, Margaret carefully considered her words before introducing the candidate to Connor in a deep voice:

When Margaret started talking about personnel appointments within the church, Connor was completely confused. Who was the leader of the Rune Arbitrators and responsible for the defense of Rune? It seemed to have nothing to do with him. Why was Margaret telling him this?

Just as Connor was listening with utter bewilderment, Margaret continued, "Headquarters' rejection of Bishop Eder's nomination for the position of Arbitrator Leader of Rune is a very clear signal. The higher-ups don't want Rune to fall entirely under Eder's control. Eder nominated Borha, who has just broken through from a senior wizard apprentice to a full wizard. Borha is a representative figure of the native Rune Arbitrators and a long-time subordinate of Eder, whose loyalty to Eder far surpasses his loyalty to the church!"

"Borha's becoming a formal wizard has greatly surprised the Church of Rune. Before this successful breakthrough, Borha, at the peak of his advanced wizard apprenticeship, had attempted to break through to become a formal wizard twice, but both times he failed unsurprisingly. Borha himself had even given up on the breakthrough. But this time, Borha miraculously succeeded!" As she said this, a hint of doubt involuntarily appeared in Margaret's beautiful eyes. Clearly, Margaret was one of those who were surprised.

"Because the new headquarters of the Rune Arbiters has not yet been finalized, the previous Rune Arbiters, namely the current Rune Bishop Eder, have been concurrently in charge. If Borha, nominated by Eder, takes over as the head of the Rune Arbiters, then in reality, the Rune Arbiters will still be under Eder's command!"

"But headquarters rejected Edel's nomination and recommendation as Bishop of Rune, and transferred the outstanding Langley from headquarters to serve as the new leader of the Rune Arbitrators!" Margaret said with a serious expression, and deliberately emphasized the name Langley when she said it, implying that Connor was an important person.

Connor was aware of Margaret's hint, but after listening for so long, all she had to do was explain the internal relationships within the Rune Arbitrators. She hadn't mentioned anything that concerned him, which was exhausting his patience. He looked at Margaret, somewhat puzzled, and asked, "Margaret, what does all this have to do with me?"

"What does it matter? Do you know you've been caught up in the factional infighting within the church?" Margaret retorted with a cold laugh, then stated decisively:

"I've been caught up in factional infighting within the church?" Margaret's words immediately left Connor speechless. He couldn't understand Margaret's words anymore. How did he end up in factional infighting within the church? If the Storm Church wanted to arrest him, that might be more plausible!

Before Connor could ask, Margaret pressed on, "The explosions in the city of Loen a while back, and the explosion at the secret warehouse of the Church of Mallorca a few days ago—Connor, were those your doing?"

Upon hearing Margaret mention this, Connor nodded, a question swirling in his mind once more. The alchemical bomb that Old Victor had him craft was highly similar in properties to the explosives he had used in the two explosions. Now, listening to Margaret's explanation, how could this be related to those two explosions?

Seeing Connor nod, Margaret sighed, stared intently into Connor's eyes, and said, enunciating each word clearly, "Connor, you're in big trouble!"
